ASF foils drug smuggling attempt at Peshawar airport

PESHAWAR, Oct 01 (APP):The Airport Security Force (ASF) at Peshawar International Airport has foiled an attempt to smuggle 2.9 kg of  heroin.
According to details  ASF personnel intercepted Afan Zahid, a passenger bound for Bahrain, after noticing suspicious items in his luggage during routine security checks.
 Upon a thorough inspection, authorities discovered the narcotics concealed within the bag.
The accused was handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) for further investigation and legal proceedings.

On China’s 75th anniversary, PM extends greetings with commitment for stronger ties

ISLAMABAD, Oct 01 (APP): As China celebrates its 75th founding anniversary on Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his warmest felicitations to President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang and the Chinese people.

Annually observed on October 1, China’s National Day commemorates Mao Zedong’s formal proclamation of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China on the day in 1949.

On his X timeline, Prime Minister Shehbaz said that Pakistan was proud of China’s remarkable progress and achievements under President Xi’s visionary leadership.

“Pakistan and China are iron brothers. Our All Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership continues to grow from strength to strength. Pakistan and China are fully committed to ensuring the success of CPEC, the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative,” the prime minister remarked.

The prime minister also reaffirmed the resolve that Pakistan would continue to work closely with China to further strengthen its bilateral ties across all spheres, and promote regional peace, stability and prosperity.

PM condoles death of DPM Ishaq Dar’s elder brother

ISLAMABAD, Oct 01 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday condoled the death of Khizar Hayat Dar, the elder brother of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar.

The prime minister expressed his deep grief over demise of Khizar Hayat Dar, and prayed for peace for the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family to bear the loss, according to a PM Office press release.

PM felicitates Abdelmadjid Tebboune on re-election as Algeria president

ISLAMABAD, Oct 01 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday felicitated Abdelmadjid Tebboune on his re-election as the President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

The prime minister wrote on his X timeline that he looked forward to continue working closely with him to strengthen Pakistan-Algeria ties in all spheres of mutual interest, especially in trade and investment.

According to the media reports quoting country’s electoral authority ANIE, Abdelmadjid Tebboune has been re-elected for a five-year term with almost 95 percent of the vote.

In the electoral contest, he defeated Abdelaali Hassani, who won 3.17 percent of the vote and Youcef Aouchiche, who won 2.16 percent votes.

FBR extends income tax return filing date by October 14

ISLAMABAD, Oct 01 (APP): The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Tuesday said the date of date of filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2024 has been extended to October 14, 2024.

In view of the requests from various trade bodies, Tax Bar Associations and general public the board has decided to extend the date for filling income tax return.

According to the FBR circular no.02 of 2024-25 IR- Operation, “In exercise of powers conferred under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001, the Federal Board of Revenue is pleased to communicate that the date of filing of Income Tax return for the Tax Year (TY) 2024, for the persons who are required to file their returns by September 30th ,2024 is hereby extended up to October 14th,2024 in view of the requests from various trade bodies. Tax Bar Associations and general public”, it added.

President calls for making Pakistan more inclusive, age-friendly for senior citizens

ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (APP): As the world community observes the International Day of Older Persons on Tuesday, President Asif Ali Zardari has urged the countrymen to strive for making Pakistan more inclusive and age-friendly to honour and respect its senior citizens.
The president, in his message to the nation on the Day, annually observed on October 1, called upon the federal and provincial governments, as well as civil society, to prioritize better healthcare; strengthen social security; protect the rights of the elderly; and provide them a friendly and healthy environment.
Reaffirming the country’s commitment to improving care and support systems for older persons, he said the Day was aimed at honouring the contributions of senior citizens for transferring their experience and wisdom to younger generations as well as their role in the progress and prosperity of the country.
President Zardari said that the senior citizens were not only the foundation of the society but were also a source of wisdom, knowledge, and experience.
“Our religion calls upon us to look after our parents and elderly people with love, compassion and utmost care. Our parents and the elderly make tremendous sacrifices by investing time, love, energy and resources in bringing up children. It is our moral and religious obligation to treat them with respect and dignity, and take care of them in old age,” he remarked.
The president said that the Constitution of Pakistan also placed a responsibility upon the state to provide necessities of life for all citizens who were permanently or temporarily unable to earn their livelihood on account of infirmity, sickness or unemployment.
Pakistan, he said, had taken a number of steps for the welfare of senior citizens.
“As populations age, they become dependent and their need for specialized care increases, and therefore, it is imperative to provide affordable and accessible medical facilities to our elderly,” the president added.

Pakistan strongly condemns attack on UAE ambassador’s residence in Sudan

ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (APP): Pakistan on Monday strongly condemned an attack on the residence of the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Khartoum, Sudan.

“Such attacks are a violation of international law and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, 1961 that uphold the respect for diplomatic premises and personnel,” the foreign office said in a press release.

Petrol prices decreased by Rs 2.07 per liter, diesel Rs 3.40

ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (APP): The government on Monday decreased the price of Motor Spirit (MS) Petrol by Rs 2.07 per liter and high speed diesel (HSD) by Rs 3.40 per litre effective from October 1.

The price of MS petrol was fixed at Rs 247.03 per litre as against its existing price of Rs 249.10 per litre, said a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance.

The price of High-Speed  Diesel was reduced by Rs 3.40 per litre  AND IT would be available at Rs 246.29 per litre as compared to its previous price of Rs 249.69 per litre during the fortnight starting from October 1.

Likewise, the price of Kerosene Oil (SKO) was decreased by Rs 3.57 per liter and it would be available at Rs 154.90 while the price of light Diesel Oil was reduced by Rs1.03 to Rs 140.90 per liter.

The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) worked out the consumer prices of petroleum products, based on the price variations in the international market, a news release said.

Pakistan Navy, Qatar Emiri Navy conduct bilateral Exercise Asad Al Bahr-III

KARACHI, Sep 30 (APP): Pakistan Navy and Qatar Emiri Navy on Monday conducted a bilateral exercise, Asad Al Bahr-III, in the North Arabian Sea.

The Qatar Emiri Naval Ship AL KHOR participated in the exercise alongside Pakistan Navy Ships PNS SHAMSHEER and PNS ASLAT, a Pakistan Navy news release said.

During the bilateral exercise, operations including Maritime Interdiction Operations, Search and Rescue, and Air Defence exercises were conducted. Aim of the exercise was to work out interoperability while handling various challenges in regional Maritime arena.

Conduct of bilateral exercise like Asad Al Bahr-III will not only help in harnessing interoperability with respect to joint operations between both regional Navies but also mushroom avenues of bilateral defence ties.

Conduct of joint exercises with regional Navies is a manifestation of PN’s resolve of handling traditional and nontraditional challenges in Maritime domain so as to ensure safety and security of seafarers in the region.
