PSX declines 200 points to close at 171,204 points

ISLAMABAD, Dec 22 (APP): The benchmark KSE-100 Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday closed bearish, losing 200.31 points, a negative change of 0.12 percent, to settle at 171,204.18 points compared to 171,404.49 points on the previous trading day, according to PSX data.
During the session, the ready market witnessed a trading volume of 684.548 million shares with a traded value of Rs 30.100 billion, against 797.528 million shares valuing Rs 42.219 billion in the previous session. Market capitalization declined to Rs 19.435 trillion from Rs 19.5478 trillion a day earlier.
Out of 486 active companies in the ready market, 143 advanced, 288 declined, while 55 remained unchanged.
K-Electric Limited topped the volume chart with 112.698 million shares, followed by TPL REIT Fund with 49.331 million shares and PIA Holding Company with 29.326 million shares.
The top gainers included Rafhan Maize Products Company Limited, which rose by Rs1,121.13 to close at Rs12,332.40, and Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited, increasing by Rs 305.00 to settle at Rs 29,160.00.
On the losing side, PIA Holding Company Limited-B declined by Rs 885.49 to close at Rs 22,250.01, while Khyber Textile Mills Limited fell by Rs 73.75 to close at Rs1,710.25.
In the futures market, turnover stood at 507.884 million shares with a traded value of Rs 41.632 billion, compared to 166.355 million shares worth Rs 9.492 billion in the previous session.
Out of 318 futures-market companies, 89 recorded gains, 226 declined, while three  remained unchanged.
Among futures contracts, KEL-Dec led with 29.739 million shares, followed by BOP-Dec with 27.752 million shares and KEL-Dec with 25.403 million shares.

Stakeholders need to be convinced regarding mediation culture: IHC

ISLAMABAD, Dec 22 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC)’s Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani on Monday expressed concern over inactivity of the mediation center in federal capital and remarked that it will take time to convince the stakeholders that the issues could also be resolved through mediation.
During hearing of a case, he remarked that the culture of mediation is in all over the world, but it will take time for us adopt it.
The mediation center that was set up in Islamabad has been closed, he noted and said that for this, first the lawyers, then the judges and then the public have to be convinced.
He said that alll stakeholders have to be satisfied that cases can also be resolved through mediation.

Eight more witnesses completed in ATC in November 26 protests case

RAWALPINDI, Dec 22 (APP): Proceedings continued on Monday in the special court of ATC regarding the case registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in Sadiqabad, related to November 26 protests.
The court issued notices to the prosecution on three important applications submitted by the defence. The first application is under Section 265-K, seeking relaxation in the bail conditions of the accused. The second application pertains to the de-freezing of the accused’s personal accounts, on which the prosecution has also been directed to submit a response.
During Monday’s proceedings, the examination-in-chief of eight additional prosecution witnesses was completed. So far, statements of a total of 16 witnesses have been recorded. The court has fixed the next hearing on January 2 for cross-examination of these 16 witnesses.
Thereafter, the remaining prosecution evidence will be recorded, followed by the cross-examination phase.
The next hearing of the case is scheduled for January 2, 2026.

Hazara university kicks off Inter-Departmental Sports Week

MANSEHRA, Dec 22 (APP): Hazara University, Mansehra, has launched its Inter-Departmental Sports Week, featuring student teams from various academic departments.
 The event was inaugurated by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advisor for Sports and Youth Affairs, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, who emphasized the importance of sports in students’ physical and mental development, promoting discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills.
He announced the upgrade of Thakra Stadium into a modern sports complex and the revision of the youth policy to empower students, inviting input from universities across the province. Cash prizes of PKR 500,000 were announced for Sports Week participants and PKR 100,000 for Hazara Defodals, winners of the Peshawar Zalmi Women Cricket League.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Ikramullah Khan welcomed the advisor and lauded the organizers for arranging the event. Officials said all provincial sports facilities are available to Hazara University students for use at any time.

IHC orders departmental action against policemen on illegal arrest of woman, minor girls

ISLAMABAD, Dec 22 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued directions for immediate departmental action against police personnel involved in illegal arrest of woman and minor daughters from Lahore, and sought a report from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad.
The court also imposed fine worth Rs100,000 each on case investigation officer and other policemen involved in illegal arrests while quashing the case against citizen Waqas Ahmed and Sohail Aleem registered by Tarnol Police Station.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani delivered a reserved verdict in a case regarding the arrest of woman along with minor daughters from Lahore by the Islamabad Police in a money transition dispute between former CEO PIA Musharraf Rasool and citizens Waqas Ahmed and Sohail Aleem. The police personnel are alleged for conducting raids without the warrants and arresting Waqas Ahmed’s wife and his minor daughters from Bahawalpur and Lahore.
The court said that the detailed written verdict will be issued later on.
The court orders IGP Islamabad to take immediate departmental action against the involved police personnel and submit a report.

Governor KP expresses grief over death of PPP leader Bismillah Khan Kakar

PESHAWAR, Dec 22 (APP): Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Monday expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader from Balochistan, former provincial minister and Provincial General Secretary Bismillah Khan Kakar.
Paying rich tribute to the late leader, the Governor said that Bismillah Khan Kakar devoted his entire life to political service, public welfare and principled politics.
He added that his demise has deprived political and public circles of not only a respected leader but also a person of high moral values and integrity.
Governor Kundi prayed for the forgiveness of the departed soul, for his elevation to the highest ranks in Jannah, and for patience and strength for the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

DC reviews Christmas arrangements in Gujrat

CM Bugti expresses sorrow on death of former provincial minister Bismillah Khan Kakar

QUETTA, Dec 22 (APP): Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Monday expressed deep sorrow over the death of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Balochistan senior leader and former provincial minister Bismillah Khan Kakar.
In his condolence message, the Chief Minister Balochistan said that the late Bismillah Khan Kakar was a calm, tolerant and principled politician, who played a prominent role in the politics and public service of Balochistan, his political and social services would always be remembered.
He said that Bismillah Khan Kakar struggled for democratic values, public interests and solutions to the problems of the province throughout his political life, His death is a great loss for Balochistan.
While praying for the elevation of the deceased’s ranks, forgiveness and patience for the bereaved family, Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that he shared the grief of the bereaved family in this hour of grief.
The Chief Minister Balochistan prayed to Allah Almighty to grant the deceased a high place in Paradise and to give the family the strength to bear this loss.

Kaghan Valley hit by continuous rain, snowfall, cold wave grips entire region

KAGHAN, Dec 22 (APP): Rain and snowfall continue across Kaghan Valley and upper Mansehra regions, including surrounding areas, as intermittent rain and light snowfall persisted for the second consecutive day, triggering a sharp wave of cold throughout the area.
Tourist spots Shogran, Kaghan, Siri Paye, and Naran are blanketed in snow, with Shogran recording about two inches and Naran Bazaar over four inches. Most areas of Naran remain snow-covered, making the weather extremely cold. Snowfall continues on the mountains of Kaghan, Siran, and Kunhar Valleys, further intensifying the chill.
Two days of continuous rain have added to the cold wave, affecting residents and visitors alike. On the directives of Director General Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) Sher Khan, KDA teams with machinery have been deployed on Kaghan Highway and Shogran Road for snow clearance and to keep roads open.
Special arrangements have been made to guide tourists and local residents. Officials confirmed that the administration remains alert to handle emergencies and is taking all possible measures to ensure safe travel in the region.

Rupee gains 03 paisa against US Dollar

ISLAMABAD, Dec 22 (APP): The Rupee on Monday appreciated 03 paisa against the US Dollar in interbank trading and closed at Rs 280.23 compared to the previous day’s closing at Rs 280.25.
According to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of the Dollar in the open market were recorded at Rs 281.1 and Rs 283.2, respectively.
The price of the Euro increased by 50 paisa to close at Rs 328.70, from the previous day’s close of Rs 328.20, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The Japanese Yen went up by 01 paisa and closed at Rs 1.79, whereas the exchange rate of the British Pound witnessed an increase of Rs01 and closed at Rs 375.82 compared to the previous day’s Rs 374.82.
The exchange rate of the Emirates Dirham declined by 01 paisa and closed at Rs 76.29, while Saudi Riyal surged by 01 paisa to close Rs 74.71.
