Shandur festival to begin on June 20, final match on June 22: Tourism Dept

PESHAWAR, Jun 02 (APP):The Khyber  Pakhtunkhwa Soorts and Tourism Department here Monday said that the annual Shandur Polo festival will commence on June 20 this month while the final match will be played on June 22 at Shandur Top.
The Shandur festival is held every year at the world’s highest polo ground and is recognized internationally for its unique appeal.
Along with cultural activities, exciting and traditional polo matches take place between the teams of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan, attracting a large number of tourists from across the country.
The Tourism Department has indicated that all arrangements for the successful organization of the festival have been completed.

High-level seminar on ‘Water Crisis and  Indus Waters Treaty’ to be held at COMSTECH on June 04

ISLAMABAD, Jun 02 (APP):A high-level international seminar titled “Water Crisis and the Indus Waters Treaty” will be held on June 04 at the COMSTECH Secretariat Auditorium, Islamabad.
The event is being jointly organized by OIC-COMSTECH, the Karachi Council on Foreign Relations (KCFR), the Hisaar Foundation, and the Panjwani-Hisaar Water Institute, NED University, Karachi.
This timely seminar comes in the wake of India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) in May 2025 a move that has significantly heightened tensions in the region and brought nuclear-armed neighbors perilously close to conflict.
The seminar will bring together a distinguished panel of national and international experts in the fields of hydrology, environmental law, international diplomacy, climate resilience and strategic security to critically assess the implications of the treaty’s suspension and explore Pakistan’s strategic options going forward.
The distinguished speakers include,
Ms. Nadira Panjwani, Chairperson, Karachi Council on Foreign Relations;
Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General OIC- COMSTECH; Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Senior Parliamentarian and Security Analyst; Mr. Ikram Sehgal, Renowned Defense and Strategic Affairs Expert; Ms. Simi Kamal  Founder and Chairperson, Hisaar Foundation, Co-founder, Panjwani-Hisaar Water Institute; Mr. Ali Tauqeer Sheikh , International Expert on Climate Finance, Mr. Rafay Alam, Environmental Legal Expert; Mr. Zohair Ashir,  Member, Board of Governors, Hisaar Foundation,  Executive Board Member, Panjwani-Hisaar Water Institute.
The seminar seeks not only to address the immediate diplomatic and environmental implications of the IWT crisis, but also to advance regional and multilateral cooperation on shared water resources. It aims to explore adaptive, resilience-building strategies and help define a long-term strategic roadmap for Pakistan’s water governance in an era of climate insecurity and geopolitical fragility.
Rather than a reactive measure, this seminar is part of a broader vision by COMSTECH to leverage science, diplomacy, and policy innovation to ensure sustainable and secure transboundary water management for Pakistan and the broader OIC region.

14 criminal arrested

SARGODHA, Jun 02 (APP):Police claimed on Monday to have arrested 14 criminals including 2 proclaimed offenders and four court absconders, and recovered contraband from their possession.
In a crackdown, the teams of different police stations raided the areas under their  jurisdiction and arrested Imran, Ahmed, Nouman, Naeem, Shakeel, Raheel, Rehman, Rehmat, Amjed, Adnan, Iqbal, Saqib, Saqlain, Majeed and others.
The police recovered 345 liters liquor, 200 empty bottles, 12 pistols, 11 rounds, 110 bullets, 2.4 kg hashish, 2.3 kg heroin and valuables worth in millions of rupees from them.
Further investigation was underway.

Distt Admin finalizes Eid-ul-Azha plan to ensure public safety, cleanliness

DIR LOWER, Jun 02 (APP):In line with Chief Minister (CM) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur’s public welfare agenda, the district administration of Dir Lower on Monday finalized a comprehensive Eid-ul-Azha preparedness plan.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Bashir Khan here on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Arif Khan chaired a meeting of heads and representatives of all relevant departments.
The meeting took various key decisions to ensure smooth public service delivery, cleanliness, safety, and medical preparedness during the Eid holidays.
It was decided all hospitals in the district would remain fully operational with doctors and paramedics on duty. Hospital in-charges would be held accountable for ensuring staff availability throughout the holidays.
Similarly, Assistant Commissioners and Additional Assistant Commissioners would  inspect public parks to ensure the safety and maintenance of all recreational rides and facilities.
Park managers and staff had been instructed to implement strict safety protocols for children and visitors.
In order to ensure smooth flow of traffic, thd traffic police would devise a special traffic plan around Eidgahs and public gathering points.
Strict action would be taken against individuals engaging in dangerous stunts such as one-wheeling.
The meeting decided thaf Rescue 1122 would be stationed at all major hospitals and sub-divisions across Dir Lower during the Eid days for emergency response.
The Police was directed to provide comprehensive security at mosques, Eid congregations, and other public areas under a security plan.
The TMAs was tasked to launch a special cleanliness drive in markets, neighborhoods, hospitals, and tourist spots and directed to ensure proper disposal of waste of sacrificial animals at designated locations only.
The meeting decided that tourists visiting scenic areas would be provided with necessary facilities and the Forest Department would issue guidelines to visitors for the protection of natural habitats.
ADC Bashir Khan emphasized the importance of maintaining hygiene and directed TMAs to ensure timely disposal of sacrificial remains.
He also instructed livestock officials to take preventive measures against Congo virus and called for designated locations for temporary cattle markets.
Departmental heads were urged to execute their Eid duties responsibly, with staff assigned to rotational shifts to maintain continuity of services.
The meeting concluded with a unified commitment to ensure a peaceful, clean, and safe Eid-ul-Azha experience for the citizens of Dir Lower.

98 suspects arrested in major search operation in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Jun 02 (APP):In a decisive move against criminal elements, the Dera police launched a large-scale search and strike operation across the district resulting in the arrest of 98 suspects and recovery of drugs and illegal arms.
According to police spokesman, following the directives of District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmad Sahabzada and under the supervision of SP City Ali Hamza, the police conducted search and strike operation in different localities aimed at apprehending proclaimed offenders and suppressing criminal activities.
The operation was conducted by SDPOs and SHOs in their respective jurisdictions. During the operation, the law enforcement teams searched a total of 133 houses and detained 88 suspicious individuals.
The police also made significant recoveries  including 1,018 grams of hashish, 350 grams of Ice drug and six pistols with 57 rounds of ammunition.
Besides, ten suspects were formally charged following the recovery of drugs and illegal weapons.
The police emphasized that such operations will continue with full intensity to ensure public safety and dismantle criminal networks operating in the area.

IGP KP orders to formulate security plan for Eid-ul-Adha

PESHAWAR, Jun 02 (APP):Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed here Monday issued directives to devise a special security plan for Eid-ul-Adha.
 In light of potential threats from fraudsters and thieves at cattle markets before Eid, the police chief has also instructed special measures and ordered increased security around all major and minor cattle markets in the province.
In his statement, IG Police Zulfiqar Hameed said that those who destroy lives through aerial firing are silent killers and deserve no leniency.
To prevent aerial firing, not only should the display of weapons be banned, but a special awareness campaign should also be launched with the cooperation of public representatives through community policing.
In order to counter any potential threats before Eid prayer gatherings, search and strike operations should be initiated in sensitive areas.
Senior police officials should make special security arrangements for all markets and shopping centers, especially those frequented by women.
The provincial police chief also directed that in women’s markets, along with uniformed personnel, female police officers should also be deployed.
He emphasized that traffic should remain smooth at all times before and during Eid-ul-Adha, and for this purpose, additional personnel should be deployed.
IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also instructed senior police officials to mobilize the public against troublemakers and gain their cooperation, as well as to activate Rescue 15 and Rapid Response Units in all districts.

Shipping  Activity at Port Qasim

KARACHI, Jun 02 (APP):Ten ships, Tanja, Royal Galaxy, Malamir, Stena Conductor, Falkonera, Bolan, Khairpur, Chemroad Jupiter, Al-Deebel and Magnum Force scheduled to load/offload Container, Rice, Steel Coil, Palm oil, Soya Bean Seed, Mogas, Gasoline, Chemicals, LNG and Coal also arrived at outer anchorage during last 24 hours.
A total of seven ships were engaged at PQA berths during the last 24 hours, out of them two ships, Renad and Sakizaya Unicorn left the port on today morning, while three more ships, Venus-9, Amir Gas and Star Petrel expected to sail on Monday afternoon.
Cargo volume of 77,802 tonnes, comprising 61,332 tonnes imports cargo and 16,470 export cargo carried in 187 Containers (0 TEUs Imports & 187 TEUs Export) was handled at the port during last 24 hours.
There are thirteen ships at Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim, out of them seven ships, Tanja, Grand ACE-1, Stena Conductor, Athanasia-C, Chemroad Jupiter, Al-Deebel and Magnum Force & another bulk cargo carrier ‘ZJ Atlantic’ scheduled to load/offload Container, Condensate, Palm oil, Soya Bean Seed, Chemicals, LNG and Coal are expected to take berths at QICT, FOTCO, LCT, FAP, EVTL, PGPCL, PIBT and MW-4 respectively on Monday, while two more container ships, GFS Juno and GFS Prime due to arrive at outer anchorage on Tuesday.

15 Sri Lankan students complete their studies under Allama Iqbal Scholarships Program
