Presidential impunity not unusual, says Shazia Marri

0
ISLAMABAD, Nov 11 (APP):Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Central Spokesperson Shazia Atta Marri on Tuesday said that presidential immunity is not a new concept, as in many countries, presidents and their families enjoy such protection.
Talking to media outside the parliament, she stated that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had previously been used against the president, adding that the president would be able to perform his duties more effectively without the fear of politically motivated cases.
Refuting rumors regarding dual nationality, Marri clarified that no amendment related to dual nationality has been included in the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
Addressing concerns about the judiciary, she asserted that the new amendment would not harm judges, emphasizing that the PPPP “is not Pervez Musharraf, who sent judges home.”
Marri pointed out that there are currently 15,000 constitutional cases pending in the Supreme Court, while 55,000 other cases remain under proceedings. She said the PPPP wanted the apex court to prioritize these pending cases.
She added that President Asif Ali Zardari firmly believes in the supremacy of Parliament, recalling that he had returned powers to Parliament in the spirit of democratic governance.
