TOKYO, Nov. 10 (Xinhua/APP): The 11th China-Japan Education Exchange Conference has been held in Tokyo as representatives from over 100 universities and educational institutions gathered to discuss new directions for bilateral educational cooperation.

The conference on Sunday, themed “Mutual Learning and Collaborative Innovation — Looking Ahead to the Next Decade of China-Japan Educational Exchange,” also attracted nearly 1,000 educators and experts.

In his remarks, Zhao Baogang, minister counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Japan, said educational exchange remains a vital and long-term component of China-Japan relations.

Currently, around 130,000 Chinese students are studying in Japan, and more than 600 Japanese high schools offer Chinese language courses, he said.

Over 9,000 inter-university cooperation agreements have been signed between the two countries, Zhao noted, expressing hope that the conference would inject new vitality into bilateral education ties and contribute to the long-term development of China-Japan relations.

Takafumi Yamamoto, associate managing director of the University of Tokyo, emphasized the importance of providing more international opportunities for young students.

He noted that cross-border learning and communication broaden academic horizons and enhance mutual cultural understanding, saying that understanding diverse ways of thinking will be a valuable asset for the younger generation.

During the conference, five thematic sub-forums were held, including the China-Japan University Presidents Forum, Basic Education Forum, and Vocational Education Exchange Meeting, focusing on internationalization, talent cultivation, and institutional collaboration.

The event was hosted by the China Education Association for International Exchange and co-organized by the Japan-China Cultural Exchange Center and Chuo University.

Analysts raise Malaysia’s full year IPI growth forecast

0

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 10 (Xinhua/APP): Analysts have raised Malaysia’s industrial production index (IPI) forecast after Malaysia’s September IPI rose higher than projections at 5.7 percent.

MBSB Research said in a recent note that it has revised its forecast for Malaysia’s IPI growth for 2025 to 3.2 percent from the previous forecast of 2 percent, taking into account the more resilient IPI growth in recent months.

RHB Investment Bank also said in a note that, given the stronger-than-expected year-to-date IPI performance, recovery in mining output, and improvement in external trade, it has revised Malaysia’s full-year IPI projection upward to 3.6 percent year-on-year from 3.2 percent previously, compared to the current year-to-date growth of 3.1 percent.

“The sustained momentum in manufacturing and the turnaround in export performance for September reinforce our view that the final GDP estimate for the third quarter will likely remain at 5.2 percent year-on-year, with potential upward revisions to our full-year 2025 GDP forecast to 4.5 percent,” the research house noted.

According to RHB, the manufacturing sector is expected to receive near-term support from sustained strength in domestic-oriented industries, easing tariff-related risks, continued resilience in electrical and electronics (E&E) exports, and steady investment activity.

Hong Leong Investment Bank Research said in a note on Monday that Malaysia’s industrial activity has continued to strengthen since bottoming at 0.3 percent year-on-year in May, supported by a resilient manufacturing sector and a recent recovery in the mining sector.

Although caution among manufacturers amid higher U.S. tariffs, elevated geopolitical tensions and risks of economic slowdown in major economies, the research house noted that Malaysia’s diversified economic structure is expected to help cushion growth against external headwinds.

TOKYO, Nov 10 (Kyodo/APP): Filmmaker Eiji Tsuburaya (1901-1970), the founder of a production company that created the Ultraman superhero franchise, has been inducted into the U.S. Visual Effects Society’s Hall of Fame, becoming the first Japanese to receive the honor, the company said.

Tsuburaya Productions Co. said its president, Masayuki Nagatake, attended the award ceremony Friday in Los Angeles. Tsuburaya, known as the “father of tokusatsu (special effects),” joins other Hall of Fame inductees including Walt Disney and Stanley Kubrick.

The society said in a press release that Tsuburaya, Glenn Campbell (1956-2024) and Mabel Normand (1893-1930) were inducted “for their pioneering contributions that advanced the art, science and technology of VFX (visual effects).”

Tsuburaya Productions said in a statement that his induction “signifies that his achievements have been recognized by the global film industry as a ‘pioneer who laid the foundation for VFX.'”

In his speech at the ceremony, Nagatake said the induction “honors his legacy not only as a technical achievement, but as a universal source and enduring tradition of visual effects that transcends time and borders, inspiring future generations of creators.”

After entering the movie industry in 1919 as an assistant cameraman, Tsuburaya, a native of Fukushima Prefecture, became a frontrunner in the use of visual effect techniques such as miniature models, multiple compositions and character costumes.

He gained a worldwide recognition through his visual effect work in the 1954 film “Godzilla,” the first of the long-running monster series directed by Ishiro Honda.

In 1963, he established Tsuburaya Special Effects Productions, which was later renamed Tsuburaya Productions, and went on to create the Ultraman series including the television programs Ultra Q, Ultraman and Ultraseven.

The Visual Effects Society, with over 5,000 members from more than 50 countries, is the entertainment industry’s only organization representing the full breadth of visual effects practitioners, according to the society.

Football: Parma keeper Suzuki out of Japan squad after hand fracture

0

PARMA, Italy, Nov 10 (Kyodo/APP): Goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has withdrawn from the Japan squad for upcoming international football friendlies against Ghana and Bolivia after suffering fracture in his left hand playing for Italian Serie A club Parma in a 2-2 draw at home to AC Milan.

Parma said scans on Sunday revealed a fracture in the middle finger of his left hand and in the scaphoid bone, adding he will undergo further specialist consultation in the coming days before eventually undergoing surgery.

The Samurai Blue, who have the World Cup looming next summer, will host Ghana at Toyota Stadium in Aichi Prefecture on Friday and face Bolivia at Tokyo’s National Stadium four days later.

Suzuki played the full match at Parma’s Ennio Tardini Stadium but injured his hand in a collision with another player in the closing stages.

The 23-year-old went to a hospital after the game and Parma notified the Japan Football Association about his unavailability for the national squad, according to a club statement.

Parma sit 17th in the 20-team Italian top division after the stalemate with second-place Milan.
