Rescue 1122 marks World Day of Remembrance with powerful road safety campaigns in Multan

0
MULTAN, Nov 16 (APP): Rescue 1122 organized two important and purposeful events on the World Day of Remembrance, aimed at commemorating those who lost their lives in road accidents, expressing solidarity with the victims, and raising effective public awareness regarding road safety.
The main event was held at the Rescue 1122 Multan Seminar Hall, presided over by District Emergency Officer Dr. Hussain Mian, while a second major event took place at Punjab College Multan, attended by a large number of students, teachers, and Rescue teams.
The seminar was attended by Rescue 1122 officers, civil society members, representatives of various government departments, media personnel, and a large number of students. Participants were informed that the speed of a motorcycle must never exceed 50 km/h.
Proper use of helmets — worn with the chin strap fastened — plays a vital role in saving lives.
The use of side mirrors significantly reduces accidents.
Correct usage of helmet elements and safety gear is an essential part of safe driving.
During his address, Dr. Hussain Mian said that every year, thousands of precious lives are lost to traffic accidents, and if young people strictly follow just three things — speed limits, proper helmet use, and mandatory use of side mirrors — a significant reduction in accidents is possible.
An awareness walk was held at the end of the seminar, spreading messages about overspeeding prevention, the importance of helmets, stopping underage driving, and the use of mirrors.
At Punjab College Multan, accident survivor Aqeel Awan shared his painful journey of 30 years, giving students a powerful lesson. He has spent a major part of his life —
11,117 days, over 266,000 hours — confined to a bed.
With tears in his eyes, Aqeel Awan said, “I wish I had worn a helmet… my parents would not have suffered so much grief.”
He shared that “his mother, Kulsoom Akhtar, and father, Aslam Awan, left no prayer, no shrine, no vow unturned… but the pain of the accident changed our lives forever.”
His emotional words left the entire hall in silence, and thousands of students pledged to use helmets.
On this occasion, Director Punjab Colleges Multan, Osama Bashir, made an important announcement: “From today onward, no student, teacher, or staff member will be allowed to enter Punjab College premises without a helmet and side mirrors.”
Under the directions of District Emergency Officer Dr. Hussain Mian, Rescue 1122 Multan announced continuation of traffic safety awareness campaigns in educational institutions and on social media platforms.
Special briefing sessions for underage drivers were also emphasized as Rescue 1122 Multan stated that accidents are not fate — they are the result of lack of caution. Respecting speed limits, mandatory helmet use, and proper use of side mirrors are the basic responsibilities of every driver.
Rescue 1122 Multan will continue community engagement, training, and awareness programs in the future to make the city safer and accident-free.

KHYBER, Nov 16 (APP): The Directorate of Social Welfare, Special Education, and Women Empowerment Department (Merged Districts), in collaboration with UNICEF, organized an event at Tehsil Landi Kotal, District Khyber, for the Christian minority community.
The primary objective was to engage minority children in a range of activities as part of the Universal Children’s Day celebrations held on 16 November.
The Universal Children’s Day, established by the United Nations in 1954, is celebrated annually on 20th of November to promote international togetherness, awareness among children, and improvement of children’s welfare.
The date marks the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child (1959) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989).
In 2025, the global theme “My Day, My Rights” highlights the importance of listening to children, ensuring their participation in decision-making, and recognizing their voices as central to development and protection.
This year’s celebration aims to bring together students, youth, faculty, and street children in an inclusive and interactive open-space event featuring art, theatre, and recreational activities to promote child protection messages and children’s rights.
Children, adolescents, youth, and families actively participated in art activities, sports and recreational events, MHPSS sessions, and quiz competitions. Sports and recreational kits, art materials, and stationery gifts were distributed to children involved in the various activities with UNICEF’s support.
Through these joint efforts, the event aimed to reach children, youth, and communities particularly minority groups in District Khyber promoting inclusion, participation, and awareness on child rights and protection while celebrating the spirit of Universal Children’s Day this year.
The communities expressed their gratitude to the Department and UNICEF for their dedicated efforts in reaching and supporting minority groups.

ICT admin to launch citywide e-tag system for all vehicles from Nov 18

0
ISLAMABAD, Nov 16 (APP): Islamabad is moving toward a controlled vehicle-entry system as the district administration prepares to introduce mandatory e-tag stickers for all cars entering or driving within the federal capital.
The new requirement, starting November 18, aims to streamline vehicle monitoring and strengthen citywide security. Officials said the system will operate through designated points across Islamabad, where motorists will be able to obtain their tags by presenting their vehicle registration documents.
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Irfan Nawaz Memon said citizens will be informed in advance about all facilitation points where the tags can be obtained. These stickers will be compulsory for every vehicle operating on Islamabad’s roads, regardless of whether the vehicle is registered in the capital or any other province.
The DC clarified that citizens must visit only the officially designated points to obtain the e-tag. For issuance, motorists will be required to bring their original vehicle registration card. The administration plans to set up multiple facilitation spots across the city to ensure smooth issuance and avoid long queues.
Meanwhile, Excise and Taxation Director Bilal Azam confirmed that if a vehicle already has an M-Tag issued by the motorway authorities, that tag will be considered valid within Islamabad as well. Owners of such vehicles will not need to obtain a new e-tag.
Azam added that the Excise Department has already begun issuing tags as part of a pilot project at Kachnar Park in I-8. Two vehicles from the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) are stationed at the park to facilitate applicants. He said that more issuance points would become functional across Islamabad, ensuring convenience for residents in different localities.
He requested the cooperation of citizens and urged them to ensure their vehicles are tagged so the administration can strengthen monitoring and security across the city.
Officials emphasized that citizens’ cooperation will help make the new entry system effective and support wider efforts to secure the capital.
