LHC grants bail to ADCR in bribery case

0
LAHORE, Dec 23 (APP): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday granted bail to Sialkot Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue (ADCR), Muhammad Iqbal Sanghera, in a case involving alleged bribery linked to a housing society’s No Objection Certificate (NOC).
Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry heard the bail petition and approved the accused’s release against surety bonds worth Rs1 million. The court ordered that the accused be released upon furnishing the required bonds.
The prosecution argued that a case was registered against Iqbal Sanghera for allegedly receiving a bribe after threatening to reject the NOC of a housing society. Opposing the bail plea, it informed the court that the accused had allegedly obtained more than Rs193.3 million in bribe money from the housing society’s owner. The prosecution further claimed that the accused spent Rs800,000 on a trip to Dubai, adding that receipts bearing his name were available on record.
Defence counsel, however, termed the allegations baseless and fabricated, arguing that the deputy commissioner revenue’s office has no authority to cancel or reject an NOC. The defence also submitted that the accused had been in jail for the past four months despite being innocent and sought his release.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court allowed the bail application and ordered the accused’s release on furnishing surety bonds.
