India’s no electoral, economic activity in IIOJK can substitute self-determination right: FO spox

ISLAMABAD, Mar 6 (APP): Pakistan on Thursday rejecting the Indian External Affairs Minister’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir, said that no electoral exercise, pursuant to the Indian Constitution, or the economic activity down the barrel of a gun could substitute Kashmiris’ self-determination right and address grievances.

“Any electoral exercise, pursuant to Indian Constitution, cannot serve as a substitute to grant of right to self-determination. Similarly, the decades-old grievances of the Kashmiri people cannot be meaningfully addressed through economic activity down the barrel of a gun,” Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said at his weekly press briefing here.

He said that the Indian EAM’s remarks misrepresented the ground realities and contravened the international law as Jammu and Kashmir was an internationally-recognized disputed territory. As per the UN Security Council resolutions, the final status of the dispute was to be determined through a free and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices.

“India’s prevarication cannot change this reality,” he remarked and said that instead of making baseless claims, India should vacate the large territories of Jammu and Kashmir from its 77-year occupation.

“It must realize that a peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and wishes of the Kashmiri people, is imperative for a lasting peace in South Asia.”

Regarding Pakistan’s support to arrest and handing over of ISKP top-tier terrorist Sharifullah to the United States, the spokesperson said that the intelligence cooperation between Pakistan and the US was longstanding.

“Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies’ efforts against terrorism including ISKP have resulted into significant successes. Pursuant to the UN Security Council’s resolutions 1267 and 1373, Pakistan collaborated with the US and handed over Sharifullah. These operations manifested Pakistan’s policy of zero tolerance against terrorism,” he remarked.

To a question, he said terrorism remained a core issue between Pakistan and Afghanistan as terror outfits including TTP enjoyed sanctuaries and enabling environment there and Pakistan had been calling upon the Afghan authorities to act against them.

Regarding the closure of Torkham border, the spokesperson rejected the notions of any unilateral action by Pakistan and explained that Afghan side unilaterally carried out construction activity on the Pakistani side and also resorted to firing on the Pakistan terminal. A border flag meeting was also held but the matter yet remained unresolved.

Spokesperson Shafqat Khan told the media that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar would take part in the Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) taking place in Jeddah on Thursday.

At the session, he will reaffirm Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and emphasize its principled position, advocate for the full withdrawal of Israel from all occupied territories, including Jerusalem and denounce the unacceptable proposal for further displacing Palestinians.

Dar will also call for restoration of the Palestinians’ inalienable rights to return to their homeland and the establishment of a viable, contiguous, and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

He said DPM Dar received a call from the US National Security Advisor, Michael Waltz on Wednesday who conveyed President Trump’s appreciation and thanks for the Government of Pakistan’s efforts in countering terrorism.

Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue its cooperation with the US in the field of counter-terrorism and also appreciated President Trump’s announcement to withdraw the US military equipment left behind in Afghanistan which the spokesperson said had been a matter of concern for Pakistan.

He also apprised the media of telephonic interaction between DPM Dar and his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Lars Løkke Rasmussen of Denmark and Jeyhun Bayramov of Azerbaijan wherein they discussed the bilateral ties and cooperation.

The spokesperson condemned in the strongest possible terms Israel’s decision to block critical humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, during the Holy month of Ramazan.

“This latest action is part of Israel’s systematic campaign to deny much needed humanitarian aid to millions of Palestinians in dire need. This constitutes yet another blatant violation of international law by the occupying power and could imperil the ceasefire agreement.”

He called on the international community to ensure unrestricted humanitarian access to Gaza, and to hold Israel accountable for imposition of collective punishment through denial of humanitarian aid to millions of civilians.

M-Tag enforcement eases traffic flow on motorways

0
ISLAMABAD, Mar 6 (APP):The National Highways Authority (NHA) latest push for M-Tag enforcement has started yielding significant results, easing traffic congestion on motorways across the country.
Following the imposition of a 25pc additional toll on vehicles without M-Tags, the adoption rate for the electronic toll system has surged from 55pc in January to 65pc in February 2025.
Official data reveals a significant decline in the number of non-M-Tag vehicles, which fell from 45pc in January to 35pc in February. This shift is part of NHA’s ongoing push to transition to a fully digital toll collection system, aimed at enhancing the efficiency of travel across the country, according to an NHA spokesperson.
A senior NHA official stated that the M-Tag system has improved traffic flow and reduced congestion at toll plazas. “We’re seeing clear progress in modernizing the toll collection process, and it’s making a noticeable difference,” the official said.
To speed up this transition, the Motorways Police imposed an additional toll charge on vehicles without M-Tags starting February 1, 2025. The decision followed a notification issued on January 31, which stated that vehicles without an M-Tag or with low balances would have to pay an extra 25% toll charge. The minimum extra charge is Rs 50.
M-Tags are prepaid stickers affixed to vehicles that enable fast, cashless transactions at toll plazas. This system allows motorists to bypass long queues, use designated fast-track lanes, and enjoy a seamless travel experience.
The NHA has reiterated its commitment to fully implementing the M-Tag system, urging motorists to register for the electronic toll service to avoid additional charges and contribute to a more efficient motorway network.

Two Sessions: Chinese private sector expands overseas ventures

0
BEIJING, Mar.6 (APP):For Lu Qingguo, a deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress and chairman of Chenguang Biotech Group Co., Ltd., the global outreach of private agricultural enterprises – establishing overseas grain and specialty agricultural product production bases – does more than merely broaden the development scope of Chinese private enterprises; it also cultivates a mutually beneficial relationship with local communities.
As the world’s largest producer of paprika oleoresin, capsaicin, and lutein, Lu Qingguo’s company took the lead in global scaling as early as 2010, setting up two factories in India. In 2015, Chenguang turned its attention to Zambia, acquiring over 100,000 acres of land to cultivate chilies and marigolds while establishing on-site processing facilities to deepen its industrial integration. From India to Africa, Chenguang has steadily advanced its global footprint.
“Take Africa as an example – both marigold and chili harvesting require manual labor. With Africa’s abundant workforce, labor-intensive agricultural production is ideally suited for the region. Africa”s advantages in land availability, sunlight, thermal resources, and water supply, combined with low raw material costs, significantly enhance the global competitiveness of Chinese enterprises,” Lu Qingguo explained. “Further, Chinese enterprises overseas create employment opportunities for local farmers, increase their income, and genuinely improve their livelihoods.”
Agriculture serves as a pillar of Zambia’s national economy, with the country boasting vast land resources and the Zambezi River, the largest water system in southern Africa. During the dry season, sunlight is abundant, and over 80% of the population is engaged in agricultural production. However, productivity remains low, relying primarily on small-scale traditional farming, with minimal mechanization and limited irrigation infrastructure—most farming is dependent on rainfall, making harvests unpreedictable.
To promote standardized agricultural practices, Chenguang has brought in experts from China to provide extensive technical training for local employees. From seedling cultivation and precision field management to welding, equipment maintenance, and tractor operation, the extensive training programs have transformed many Zambian farmers into skilled “new-generation agricultural workers” equipped with multiple technical competencies.
Beyond agriculture, Chinese private enterprises’ international journey also extends to cultural industries. For Xia Hua, a deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress and chairman of Eve Group, “going global” is not only about sharing Chinese aesthetics with the world but also creating economic opportunities for Chinese artisans. In 2023, 44 fashion pieces incorporating elements of Guizhou Miao embroidery were showcased at Milan Fashion Week, captivating audiences with their exquisite patterns and intricate craftsmanship, embodying the artistic essence of Miao embroidery.
However, two decades ago, Xia Hua witnessed firsthand how many Miao and Buyi embroiderers were forced to abandon their craft due to economic hardships, placing this millennia-old intangible cultural heritage on the brink of extinction. Determined to revive the tradition, she and her team traveled to nearly 150 remote villages across China, identifying and supporting thousands of women passionate about embroidery. She subsequently established over 1,600 “Embroidery Dream Workshops” in Guizhou and Yunnan and created the “Deep Mountain Market” platform, allowing these artisans works to reach the marketplace, breathing new life into traditional craftsmanship.
“Eve Handcraft Workshop has been dedicated to showcasing Chinese aesthetics on a global stage. Looking ahead, we are committed to helping Chinese embroidery artisans gain international recognition. Our goal is to establish a global platform for Chinese ethnic handicrafts and culture, build a comprehensive database, and introduce Chinese artisans to the world, fostering international collaboration opportunities,” Xia Hua shared with China Economic Net.
Qu Yongyi, a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and serves on its Economic Affairs Committee, offered strategic advice to Chinese private enterprises expanding abroad. “Jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative has opened vast opportunities for private sectors. To succeed internationally, companies must proactively adapt to the legal and cultural environments of host countries, carefully assess, and mitigate political risks, and leverage their domestic manufacturing bases and China’s vast market scale. By driving international expansion through a dual strategy of ‘hard technology and globalization,’ private enterprises can actively compete in global markets and accelerate the internationalization of their products and services.”
