KARACHI, Nov 17 (APP): The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has approved and finalized a major road development project in District Malir aimed at improving mobility, reducing travel time, and enhancing connectivity for thousands of daily commuters.
The step is taken in line with Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab’s citywide infrastructure rehabilitation initiative, said a spokesperson on Monday.
The project—the rehabilitation of the key corridor stretching from Gulshan-e-Hadeed to Allah Wali Chowrangi—has reached a significant milestone with the formal issuance of the tender. This marks the beginning of the execution phase of one of the most essential road upgrades planned for the eastern belt of the city.
The scheme has been designed to facilitate residents, streamline traffic flow, and support the rapid growth of surrounding neighborhoods and industrial zones. This vital artery serves as a primary connector not only within District Malir but also between key industrial and commercial hubs including Bin Qasim Industrial Zone and the route leading towards Thatta.
The project carries an estimated cost of Rs. 496 million, covering comprehensive rehabilitation works that include road surfacing, drainage improvement, lane marking, and the installation of necessary infrastructure to ensure long-term sustainability.
The construction timeline has been set at one year, with the commitment that the upgraded route will offer improved safety, durability, and convenience for Karachiites upon completion.
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab emphasized the strategic importance of this development. He instructed relevant departments to carry out the project on a fast-track basis, ensuring transparency, timely delivery, and strict adherence to quality standards.
The Mayor reiterated that KMC’s ongoing infrastructure reconstruction drive reflects the administration’s resolve to bring visible, meaningful improvements to Karachi’s urban landscape.
“Our priority is to provide Karachi’s citizens with safer, smoother, and more reliable roads that match the needs of a growing metropolis. This project is another step forward in reshaping the city’s infrastructure and enhancing access to vital residential and industrial areas,” the Mayor stated.
The rehabilitation of this corridor is expected to significantly ease congestion, support economic activity, and enhance the overall commuting experience for thousands of daily travelers. KMC remains committed to launching more such projects across the city to advance its long-term vision of a modern, efficient, and citizen-friendly Karachi.
