Altaf Hussain takes charge as NGC MD, sets vision for modernised power grid

0
LAHORE, Nov 19 (APP):Altaf Hussain has assumed charge as Managing Director (MD) of the National Grid Company of Pakistan Limited (NGC), the company’s spokesman said on Wednesday.
Hussain brings more than 30 years of international experience in power transmission and distribution. He began his career with WAPDA in 1987 and later spent 27 years in Canada’s power sector, most recently serving as Director of Asset Strategy and Planning at BC Hydro, where he led major initiatives in grid resilience, electrification, and energy transition.
His appointment comes as NGC undergoes major restructuring following its transition from the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC). The reform has created three separate entities — NGC, the Independent System and Market Operator (ISMO), and the Energy Infrastructure Development and Management Company (EIDMC) — aimed at improving transparency and efficiency in the power sector.
Addressing senior leadership in his first meeting, Hussain outlined his vision to transform NGC into a modern, innovation-driven utility. He emphasized team building, adoption of new technologies, strong communication, and talent development through mentoring and coaching.
Hussain expressed confidence that NGC teams would meet critical timelines to support the country’s power needs and economic development. As Managing Director, he will lead efforts to enhance transmission network development, operations, and reliability, while coordinating closely with ISMO and EIDMC on system operations and infrastructure projects.
