ICT Police hold flag march in City zone to ensure law and order

ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police conducted a flag march in various areas of the City Zone to maintain law and order and reinforce the sense of security among citizens.
An official told APP on Sunday that the flag march was led by SP City Zone Sulaiman Zafar and formed part of ongoing security measures being implemented across the federal capital to deter criminal elements and ensure public safety.
The official said that the purpose of the flag march was to maintain a peaceful environment, enhance police visibility, and reassure citizens of the police’s active presence in their localities.
He added that under the special directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP)  Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, Islamabad Police have adopted effective security arrangements, including flag marches, patrols, and targeted operations to curb crime and maintain peace.
SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza said that Islamabad Police remain fully vigilant for the protection of citizens’ lives and property, adding that actions against criminal elements are being carried out on a continuous basis.
He further said that such flag marches would continue regularly across different zones of the city as part of a sustained strategy to strengthen law enforcement and public confidence./

Gilani offers condolences at Quran recitation ceremony of Ashiq Nawaz Khan Babar’s late wife

MULTAN, Dec 14 (APP):Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani attended the Quran recitation ceremony for the late wife of prominent Multan social figure Ashiq Nawaz Khan Babar on Sunday.
Chairman Gilani visited the residence of the bereaved family to offer his condolences. During the visit, he met with Ashiq Nawaz Khan Babar’s children, including former NFC University Registrar Nasrullah Khan Babar, former Assistant Advocate General Punjab Umar Nawaz Khan Babar, Asif Khan Babar, and Zubair Khan Babar, expressing deep sorrow over their mother’s passing.
He prayed for patience and strength for the family and for the departed soul’s elevation in the hereafter.
The Quran recitation ceremony was attended by a large number of political and social figures, including former provincial ministers Hafiz Iqbal Khakwani, Dr. Akhtar Malik, Nawab Sujauddin Alizai, former MNA Malik Abdul Ghaffar Dogar, Mohsin Nawaz Khan, and Aftab Ali Khan Babar, along with many other dignitaries and citizens.

ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Qazi Ali Raza on Sunday reviewed security arrangements at churches and Sunday bazaars across the federal capital to ensure public safety and maintain religious harmony.

An official told APP that during the visits, the SSP inspected various duty points, churches and busy market areas, including Sunday bazaars, and met officers deployed on security duties. He directed them to remain fully alert, strengthen vigilance, and ensure effective checking of suspicious persons, unregistered vehicles and motorcycles.

The SSP stressed that the protection of places of worship is a priority, underscoring Islamabad Police’s commitment to religious tolerance, interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence. He instructed officers to maintain a visible presence around churches during services and to coordinate closely for swift response to any untoward situation.

He also ordered enhanced patrolling and monitoring in crowded markets and bazaars to prevent crime and ensure smooth movement of citizens. Officers were further advised to deal with the public politely and respectfully to reinforce trust between police and citizens.

On BRB Canal: first surface water treatment plant approved for Lahore

LAHORE, Dec 14 (APP):The first surface water treatment plant project has been approved in the provincial capital.
The plant will be set up on the BRB Canal in Lahore, which was approved in the 52nd PDWP meeting.
The project will be completed with the support of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, which will make 54 million gallons of surface water usable per day.
The population of Mughalpura, Baghbanpura, Fatehgarh and Shadipura will benefit from this project, in addition to which more than 1.7 million citizens of Lahore will also be able to benefit.
The water treatment project will be completed by the 2031 and a surface water treatment plant will be installed on 120 acres of land, electricity will also be generated through a 5-megawatt solar energy system.

Two suspects involved in hawala/hundi arrested, millions of rupees recovered

ABBOTTABAD, Dec 14 (APP): The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested two individuals involved in hawala/hundi and recovered millions of rupees during major operations carried out by the FIA Abbottabad and Peshawar Zones.
According to FIA spokesperson on Sunday, the operations were conducted on the directives of the Director General FIA by the Commercial Banking Circle Peshawar and the Composite Circle Abbottabad. The arrested suspects have been identified as Abdullah and Muhammad Nadeem.
Suspect Abdullah was arrested from Chakdara, while Muhammad Nadeem was apprehended from Battagram. During the raids, FIA officials recovered Rs 10.2 million from Abdullah and Rs 0.3 million from Muhammad Nadeem. Mobile phones and other evidence related to hawala/hundi were also seized from their possession.
The spokesperson said the suspects failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the recovered currency. Both suspects have been taken into custody and further investigation has been initiated.
Raids are underway to arrest other accomplices involved in the illegal hawala/hundi network.

Punjab athletes excel at 35th National Games, says minister

LAHORE, Dec 14 (APP): Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar on Sunday congratulated the Punjab contingent for finishing at the top of the medals table at the 35th National Games, securing a total of 126 medals, including 16 gold, 38 silver and 72 bronze medals, in Karachi.
In a statement, he said the Punjab contingent displayed exceptional performance throughout the Games, outperforming all provinces and major departments, including the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Police and Railways, in the overall medals standings.
The minister said the mega national sports event was held in Karachi from December 6 to 13, 2025, and described Punjab’s medal-winning performance as a source of pride for the entire nation.
Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said the Punjab contingent performed admirably under the leadership of Director General Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry, adding that the success was the result of hard work by athletes and professional training provided by Punjab coaches during 12-day training camps at Nishtar Park Sports Complex. He said several Punjab athletes who received scholarships under the Punjab Sports Endowment Fund also clinched medals in their respective disciplines, reflecting the effectiveness of government-backed athlete support programmes.
The minister added that both male and female athletes from Punjab demonstrated outstanding skills during the Games. He said the Punjab government was providing modern facilities and quality training to players, adding that the impressive results affirmed the province’s sports development policy.

Two passengers offloaded over fake visas

LAHORE, Dec 14 (APP):Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) foiled an attempt to travel abroad through forged documents and offloaded two passengers at Allama Iqbal International Airport, here on Sunday.
According to an FIA spokesperson, the action was carried out by FIA Immigration during routine checks.
The passengers, identified as Minza Shehzadi and Hasnain Khalid, were travelling to Portugal on flight TK-745.
The spokesperson said both passengers belonged to Gujranwala and were found carrying fake Portuguese study visas affixed to their passports. Preliminary investigation revealed that the forged visas were obtained from an agent identified as Iqbal.
The passengers reportedly paid Rs 3.5 million each to acquire the fake study visas. Following their offloading, the passengers were handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle, Lahore, for further legal action, the spokesperson added.

Five arrested, weapons recovered in Gujrat

GUJRAT, Dec 14 (APP): The police arrested five suspects, recovering five pistols from their possession.
According to a police spokesperson, Karyanwala Police Station with his team, set up special pickets at various locations.
During the operation, the suspects were arrested and illegal weapons were recovered. The accused were identified as Muhammad Faqirya, Muhammad Shafiq, Ghulam Abbas, Imran and Muhammad Asghar.
The cases had been registered against the suspects, while further investigation is underway, police said.

Various food points penalized for hygiene violations

MULTAN, Dec 14 (APP): On the directions of the Director General, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) intensified food safety inspections in the division to ensure public health protection, conducting extensive checks at restaurants, bakeries, dairy units and water plants in Multan, Khanewal and Vehari districts.
During inspection operations in Multan, a Bar B Qs and fish outlet at Kotla Tole Khan Chowk was fined Rs 20,000 for poor hygiene conditions, while a milk collection unit at BCG Chowk was penalized Rs 30,000 for substandard nutritional quality of milk. A Misri Patasha manufacturing unit located on New Central Jail road was fined Rs30,000 for unhygienic machinery and failure to produce a water analysis report.
In Khanewal, a bakery at Rashidabad Chowk on Khanewal road was fined Rs 40,000 for using expired food colour and substandard ingredients. Similarly, a sweets and bakery shop in Bihari market was penalized Rs30,000 for adulteration with untraceable ingredients, lack of filtration facilities and storing food in contaminated freezers.
A water plant in Wapda town Phase-II, Multan, was sealed temporarily after its water sample failed laboratory testing and it’s production halted till improvements.
Further inspections in Kabirwala revealed an ice-cream shop in the main Kohiwala Bazaar fined Rs15,000 for failing to mention expiry dates on stored ice-cream, presence of expired soft cakes and untraceable food items. Authorities also imposed fines amounting to Rs 23,000 on a colour and chemical store at Old Sabzi Mandi, Kabirwala, and a general store at Killi Bazaar, Khanewal, for keeping expired products.
In Mian Channu, a marriage hall located at GT Road, 25 Wala Phatak, was fined Rs25,000 for using China salt and open spices in food preparation. Meanwhile, in Vehari district, a restaurant at Abbas Nagar on Mailsi Road was penalized Rs15,000 for using China salt, while a sweets and bakery shop in Basti Mehran Wali, Mailsi, was fined Rs15,000 due to unhygienic storage conditions.
During the crackdown, PFA teams also discarded 15 kilograms of substandard food.

Export-led growth ensures speedy economic development: Saif

LAHORE, Dec 14 (APP): Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Coordinator Saif Ur Rehman said on Sunday that Pakistan’s economic development can be paced up by ensuring export-led growth supported by value-addition, diversification and access to new markets.
In a meeting with industrialists delegation here, he explained that by prioritizing exports over consumption-driven expansion, Pakistan can strengthen its balance of payments and reduce its dependence on external financing. “Only through this integrated approach of productivity, governance and business reform can chart a stable and prosperous economic future,” he remarked.
Regarding business reforms, he was of the view that simplifying taxation, improving contract enforcement, and ensuring ease of doing business will enable firms to scale up and compete globally. While on governance side, he suggested,streamlined regulations, transparency in public institutions, and decisive action against inefficiencies to rebuild investor confidence. “A well-governed economic environment attracts long-term investment and supports entrepreneurship, which in turn fosters innovation and job creation,” he added.
Pakistan’s economy stands at a defining moment where sustainability can no longer hinge on consumption-driven growth, hence there is an urgent needs of a decisive shift toward productivity enhancement, governance restructuring, and deep-rooted business reforms.
He appreciated the Federal Finance Minister’s recent statement that productivity must be placed at the centre of economic planning by modernising agriculture, upgrading industrial capacity, and integrating technology across all sectors. This will not only improve competitiveness but also reduce reliance on imports, he concluded.
