PDMA issues weather alert

LAHORE, May 26 (APP): The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a weather alert predicting windstorms, dusty winds, and rain across most districts of the province from May 27 to 31.
According to the alert, strong winds and rain are expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Gujranwala. Rainfall is also likely in Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali. In South Punjab, areas including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar are forecasted to receive rain from May 27 to 30.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia stated that alerts have been issued to district administrations in line with directives from Chief Minister Punjab. He added that the expected rainfall will bring relief from the ongoing heatwave.
Alerts have also been dispatched to departments including School Education, Health, Irrigation, Communication and Works, Local Government, and Livestock to ensure preparedness.
The public is advised to take precautions during adverse weather. Citizens are urged to stay indoors during windstorms, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from open areas during lightning. In case of emergency, the PDMA helpline 1129 is available for assistance.

DC reviews anti-polio campaign

SIALKOT, May 26 (APP): Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali reviewed the ongoing national anti-polio campaign in Sialkot district and checked teams and also conducted door-to-door inspection of houses.
She directed the polio teams to follow the maps and micro-plans and maintain the cold chain of vaccines and keep a complete record of children not found in houses and cover them as per SOPs.
She appealed to parents to administer polio drops to their children and to call the District Control Room 9250011 for information or guidance.

Five injured in Karachi bus accident

KARACHI, May 26 (APP):At least five persons were injured in a bus accident that took place near Natha Khan Pull area of Karachi, TV channels quoting Rescue sources reported on Monday.
                According to initial reports, five persons sustained injuries when a rashly-driven passenger bus overturned near Natha Khan Pull area of Karachi.
The Rescue team after receiving reports rushed to the site and shifted the injured to nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
  The Rescue and Police team are also removing the vehicle from the road with heavy machinery.

Murder mystery solved

LAHORE, May 26 (APP):The death of a young man who fell from third floor of a Faisal Town flat was not an accident but a murder.
According to SHO Faisal Town Afzal Rauf,  Zia was killed by accused Chand on suspicion of having an affair with his wife.
Afzal Rauf along with his team solved the case in 12 hours and the accused was arrested.
SP Model Town Akhlaqullah Tarar said that the accused Chand suspected that the deceased had an affair with his wife. The accused lured the deceased to the flat.
The accused killed Zia by hitting him with a brick in the head. After the murder, he threw the body down from third floor to make it look like an accident.
The police became suspicious due to the contradictory statements of the accused, took him into custody and investigated. The accused Chand confessed to the crime during the investigation. A murder case has been registered.

PPSC recommends over three dozen candidates for appointment

LAHORE, May 26 (APP): The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) has recommended more than three dozen candidates for appointment as Assistant Director (Town Planning) (BS-17) on a three-year contract in the Lahore Development Authority and the Housing, Urban Development & Public Health Engineering Department.
The following individuals were selected on open merit: Asra Fatima, Nazar Abbas, Muhammad Talha Naeem, Maryam Saleem, Ayesha Fatima, Hafiz Zohaib Amir, Junaid Maqbool, Ali Hasan, Tooba Iftikhar, Hafiz Salman Ashraf, Wasif Jalal, Najaf Zahoor, Muhammad Shahzad, Eesha Fatima, Fakhar Bilal, Muhammad Sumair, Sana Naseer, Maria Aslam, Fiaz Farooq, Sana Batool, Muhammad Kashif, Zeeshan Hanif, Waqar Ahmad Javed, Haroon Gulzar, Ch Zahid Ali Jutt, and Muhammad Ahmad.
Under the women quota, the selected candidates include Pernia Ayyaub, Aroma Kashif, Aymen Zia Sumbal, Armab Akram, Syeda Shafaq Bukhari, Iqra Khalid, and Haleema Shahid.
For the minority quota, Faisal Anwar Masih was recommended. One seat under the minority quota remains vacant due to the unavailability of a suitable candidate.

UHE to launch BS, MPhil and PhD programs

LAHORE, May 26 (APP): The University of Home Economics (UHE) has decided to  to introduce five more new degree programs, for female students.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Zebun-Nisa  told APP that new disciplines being introduced include BS, MPhil and PhD degree and two other proposed programs inlatest fashions.
The approval of the degree programs will be taken from the Academic Council.
She said that UHE’s mission is to provide a better future for women, while expressing her wish that girls should not have to go abroad for higher education. Home Economics University  is making every possible effort to empower girls as most female students cannot go abroad for better education, efforts are being made to provide every degree program to girls locally, the VC added.
