Bike lifter arrested, stolen motorcycle recovered

RAWALPINDI, Jul 14 (APP):The Waris Khan Police on Monday nabbed an accused involved in a motorcycle theft case.
The stolen motorcycle was also recovered from the arrested bike lifter, the Rawalpindi Police spokesman said.
The accused had been nominated in many theft cases, he added.

DPO Tank inaugurates tree plantation drive

TANK, Jul 14 (APP):District Police Officer (DPO) Tank Shabbir Hussain Shah on Monday inaugurated the monsoon tree plantation campaign by planting a sapling at the police headquarters in collaboration with the officers from the Forest Department.
Addressing the ceremony, DPO Shabbir Shah highlighted the vital role of trees in preserving the environment, calling them “the adornment of the earth and a precious gift of nature.” He emphasized that protecting the environment is a collective responsibility and stressed the urgent need to promote plantation drives to curb pollution and secure a healthier future for coming generations.
He announced that trees would be planted at all police stations, posts, and offices across the district, underscoring the police department’s commitment to environmental sustainability in addition to its core law enforcement duties.
Officials from the Forest Department lauded the initiative and pledged their continued support for plantation efforts. DPO Shah also appealed to the public to actively participate in tree planting and care, noting that even a single tree can provide life-sustaining benefits and serve as a symbol of hope for future generations.

6 dead as rains, lightning strike parts of KP

PESHAWAR, Jul 14 (APP):At least six people lost their lives and a child was injured in separate incidents caused by heavy rains and lightning strikes across various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.
According to a report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Monday, the incidents occurred in the districts of Bajaur, Kohat, Malakand, and Khyber.
Among the deceased are one man, one woman, and four children. Additionally, three houses sustained partial damage due to the severe weather.
PDMA has directed the respective district administrations to provide immediate relief to the affected families and ensure the best possible medical care for the injured.
The authority also warned that the current spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until 17 July, urging residents to remain cautious during this period.

SCO foreign ministers’ council meeting aims to make political preparations for Tianjin Summit: Lin Jian

BEIJING, July 14 (APP):Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday that the meeting of the Council of the Ministers Foreign Ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States aims to make political preparations for the Tianjin Summit.
China is willing to take this meeting as an opportunity to uphold the Shanghai Spirit and work with all parties to build a shared home featuring solidarity and mutual trust, peace and tranquility, prosperity and development, good-neighborliness and friendship, as well as fairness and justice, Lin said while commenting on the meeting during his regular briefing held here.
The Meeting of the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the SCO Member States to be held in Tianjin on Tuesday.
Lin noted that China, as the rotating presidency of the SCO for 2024-2025, will host the summit in Tianjin this fall, and the foreign ministers’ council meeting aims to make political preparations for the Tianjin Summit.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will chair the Tuesday meeting, where foreign ministers of member states will exchange views on cooperation in various SCO fields and major international and regional issues, and sign a series of resolutions and documents.
China is willing to take this meeting as an opportunity to uphold the Shanghai Spirit, align with the SCO chairmanship slogan “SCO in Action,” and work with all parties to implement President Xi Jinping’s important initiatives for building a shared home featuring solidarity and mutual trust, peace and tranquility, prosperity and development, good-neighborliness and friendship, as well as fairness and justice, Lin said.
This will help consolidate more consensus on cooperation, achieve more cooperative measures, ensure the complete success of the Tianjin Summit, and promote the SCO into a new stage of high-quality development, added the spokesperson.
At the invitation of Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, foreign ministers of other SCO member states and heads of SCO’s permanent bodies will attend the meeting.
Parties will exchange views on SCO cooperation in various fields and major international and regional issues.

Man arrested for injuring citizen

RAWALPINDI, Jul 14 (APP):The Bani Police Station arrested a man for thrashing and injuring a citizen over some old dispute last month.
According to the Rawalpindi Police spokesman, the Bani Police registered the case against the accused and his accomplices on the complaint of the victim.
The accused had gone into hiding after the incident and the Bani Police used all means including human intelligence to nab him, the spokesman said.
Other accomplices of the accused would also be arrested soon, he added.

The deputy prime minister chaired a meeting to review progress on investment initiatives from friendly countries across key sectors, a DPM’s Office news release said.
The meeting was attended by SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Secretaries of Law & Justice, Petroleum & Finance, Chairman SECP and senior officials from MoFA and relevant departments. Discussions focused on foreign investments in infrastructure, energy, petroleum, and economic development.

FBISE set to announce SSC exam results on Wednesday

AIOU faculty board approves different programs of Social Sciences

ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP):Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has approved three new BS programmes, BS E-Commerce, BS Psychology, and BS Political Science, as part of its efforts to expand academic offerings in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.
The approval was granted during a meeting of the Faculty Board held yesterday, chaired by Dean, Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir. In addition to the new undergraduate programmes, the Board also approved schemes of studies for various departments’ postgraduate, BS, MPhil, and PhD programmes. Key decisions were taken regarding curriculum reforms, including revisions to existing courses and the inclusion of new subjects, said a press release issued here on Monday.
Addressing the meeting, Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir emphasized that all academic programmes will be aligned with the contemporary educational and professional requirements in accordance with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) policies. He reiterated the university’s commitment to quality education under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood.
Dr. Sahir further noted that, following government directives, Fahm-ul-Quran and Seerat-un-Nabi courses have already been included in all degree programmes. In the next phase, the university will introduce courses focused on Pakistani languages, aiming to promote the country’s diverse linguistic and cultural heritage.
He also instructed faculty members to ensure that all new academic programmes meet prescribed standards, including credit hours and policy compliance, before being submitted to the Academic Council for final approval.
The meeting also featured a detailed presentation by Lecturer Dr. Munir Khattak on the proposed Undergraduate Rules, Regulations, and Procedures (URRP) 2025. Developed with student needs and HEC policy in mind, the framework is designed to benefit both Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and on-campus students. The presentation received unanimous support from faculty members.
It is pertinent to mention that all decisions taken by the Faculty Board are subject to approval by the Academic Council and the Executive Council in their upcoming meetings.

MPA Farooq Awan meets Water Corporation COO to discuss issues of Korangi residents

KARACHI, Jul 14 (APP):Member Sindh Assembly Muhammad Farooq Awan met with Chief Operating Officer of Water Corporation Engineer Asadullah Khan at his office on Monday and discussed key issues related to water supply and sewerage in the Korangi area.
According to spokesman of the KW&SC, the meeting was attended by senior officials of the Water Corporation, where detailed discussions were held regarding public grievances and possible solutions.
MPA Farooq Awan comprehensively apprised the Water Corporation officials on the challenges faced by residents in his constituency and proposed several suggestions for improvement.
COO Asadullah Khan issued strict instructions for the immediate resolution of all water and sewerage issues in Korangi.
He emphasized the need for sustainable, long-term solutions to the problems faced by the local population.
The COO directed Water Corporation officials to take urgent and practical measures and to ensure prompt redressal of complaints raised by elected public representatives.
He also stressed the importance of effective monitoring of all water and sewerage projects to ensure timely and efficient implementation.
