Kashmiris mark accession to Pakistan Day with renewed resolve

0
MIRPUR, Jul 19 (APP):Kashmiris across the Line of Control and around the world observed the Kashmir’s Accession to Pakistan Day on July 19, 2025, with a renewed pledge to continue their struggle for freedom from Indian occupation. This day commemorates the historic resolution passed on July 19, 1947, demanding the accession of Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan.
The resolution was adopted during a special meeting of the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference at the residence of veteran Kashmiri leader Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan in Srinagar. This event marked a significant moment in Kashmir’s history, symbolizing the region’s desire to join Pakistan based on geographical, cultural, and economic proximity.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, special ceremonies were held in all ten district and tehsil headquarters, including Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, and Kotli, the local correspondent of APP reported this from Mirpur on Saturday.
Speakers at these events reiterated their commitment to the cause of Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan and condemned India’s brutalities in occupied Kashmir. They urged the international community to intervene in stopping human rights abuses in the region.
Speakers expressed grave concern over the deteriorating situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir, where over 2 million Indian military and paramilitary troops have unleashed brutalities against freedom-loving Kashmiris. They demanded that the international community, particularly the United Nations and global human rights organizations, take immediate action to stop Indian aggression.
In Mirpur, a special ceremony was held under the auspices of the National Events Organizing Committee, attended by civil society members, social and political leaders, and representatives of the business community. Speakers highlighted the importance of Kashmir’s Accession to Pakistan Day, describing it as a symbol of Kashmiris’ indigenous struggle for freedom.

US restricts criticism of tainted Foreign Elections: Reports

0
NEW YORK, Jul 19 (APP): The United States will scale back its assessments of elections in foreign countries, only commenting publicly when there is a “clear and compelling” foreign policy interest, according to media reports, citing a new directive sent to American embassies and consulates around the world.
The directive indicates that when weighing in on an election, U.S. officials’ messages should be short, congratulatory toward the winner and, when “appropriate,” mention shared foreign policy interests.
“Consistent with the administration’s emphasis on national sovereignty, the (State) Department will comment publicly on elections only when there is a clear and compelling U.S. foreign policy interest to do so,” a State Department spokesperson told The Hill newspaper.
“President Trump clearly articulated his vision of an ‘America First’ foreign policy in his Riyadh speech on May 13. The President praised the progress that comes from sovereign countries, pursuing [their] own unique visions, and charting [their] own unique destinies in [their] own way,” the spokesperson added, referring to the president’s speech during his first stop on his Middle East swing.
The State Department has remarked on elections worldwide for decades, at times admonishing elections held in authoritarian regimes that the U.S. has deemed unfair or rigged.
“When it is appropriate to comment on a foreign election, our message should be brief, focused on congratulating the winning candidate, and, when appropriate, noting shared foreign policy interests,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in the internal cable, which was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.
The State Department has also celebrated foreign elections deemed free and fair, as it did in late May when its Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs congratulated Suriname in late May for holding “free and fair elections.”
“The United States supported the electoral process by sending trained monitors. We look forward to strengthening our partnership and advancing shared democratic values,” the bureau said in a post on social platform X.
Last week, Rubio congratulated Jennifer Geerlings-Simons on her election as president of Suriname.
The last time the State Department was sharply critical of a foreign election was three days before Trump was sworn into the Oval Office, when the U.S. Embassy in Belarus hammered the country’s President Alexander Lukashenko ahead of elections Jan. 26.
“The Lukashenka regime’s systematic efforts to silence any dissent have determined the outcome of the election long before any ballots are cast, depriving the Belarusian people of the opportunity to choose their own leaders and determine their own future,” the embassy said about the election, which was also denounced by European countries.
Lukashenko won with more than 86 percent of the vote, according to the country’s election commission.
Rubio was at times outspoken about foreign elections during his time in the Senate.
After Nicolas Maduro won a widely criticized election in Venezuela in July 2024, Rubio blasted the Biden administration’s policy toward the country.
“Biden & Harris broadly eased Trump sanctions on Maduro regime as part of a ‘deal’ for elections in #Venezuela,” he wrote at the time, referencing former President Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Today was that election and it was a complete fraud,” he added. “The latest example of how our enemies have suckered Biden and Harris repeatedly over the last four years.”

ISLAMABAD, Jul 19 (APP):Eminent Hurriyat leader Altaf Hussain Wani on Saturday said the dream of merging with Pakistan, inspired by the July 19, 1947 resolution, continues to thrive among the Kashmiri people, and the martyrs will always live on in their collective memory.

In an exclusive conversation on the eve of July 19, Hurriyat leader Altaf Hussain Wani reaffirmed that Kashmir’s aspiration for merger with Pakistan remained deeply rooted in the hearts of its people.

He said the July 19, 1947 resolution continues to inspire generations, representing the political will and unwavering commitment of the Kashmiri people toward their right to self-determination.

Wani emphasized that Kashmir’s martyrs were not just a part of history but living symbols of resistance. Their sacrifices are the foundation of our struggle, he said. They laid down their lives for a cause that continues to guide us even today, he said, adding, remembering the July 19 resolution is not just a matter of commemoration, but a reaffirmation of the goal it envisioned.

He further stated that the martyrs keep the freedom movement alive, with their blood serving as a constant reminder of the price paid for dignity and justice.

Wani urged the international community to recognize the enduring spirit of the Kashmiri people and the legitimacy of their aspirations, stressing that the legacy of the martyrs will continue to shape the region’s political future.

“Even though key Hurriyat leaders like Masarat Alam Butt, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Asiya Andrabi, Ayaz Akbar, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and others remain imprisoned in Indian jails, especially in Tihar, the spirit of resistance has only grown stronger among the masses”, he added.

Their ongoing unlawful detention is a serious violation of human rights, yet it has failed to weaken the resolve of the Kashmiri people and their presence remains alive and active in every Kashmiri household, he said and added, Kashmiris have never accepted any so-called democracy or government imposed on them.
