SAU strengthens academic excellence as Board approves 7 PhD degrees

HYDERABAD, Dec 25 (APP):Academic and research activities at Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam, continue to gain momentum as the University’s 176th meeting of the Board of Advanced Studies (BAS) on Thursday approved the award of seven PhD degrees in various disciplines. The meeting was chaired by Vice Chancellor Engr Prof Dr Altaf Ali Siyal, while agenda items were presented by Dr Abdul Mubeen Lodhi, Director, Board of Advanced Studies.
The approved scholars include Ms Nargis Shah of the Department of Plant Pathology for her research on integrated management of cotton leaf curl disease in Sindh, Muhammad Waris of the same department for his study on post-harvest blue mould rot of onion and its integrated management and Adnan for his work on investigation and management of Fusarium wilt of cucumber in high plastic tunnels in Balochistan.
The Board also approved the PhD degree of Awais Bin Shahid of the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry for his research assessing the impact of dietary selenium supplementation against concentrate diet-induced rumen epithelial injuries in goats, Jay Parkash Goil of the Department of Animal Product Technology for his study on the influence of genetic variants of kappa casein on the quality of milk and cheese, Ghulam Sarwer Kamboh of the Department of Entomology for his research on the effect of pest management on tomato fruit borer, and Mr Nabeel Akhtar of the Department of Plant Protection for his work on taxonomy, pathogenicity and management of major fungi associated with chili nurseries.
Addressing the scholars, Vice Chancellor Dr Altaf Ali Siyal said that the approval of PhD degrees reflected the dedication of the candidates and the professional guidance of their supervisors. He emphasized that a PhD was not merely an academic qualification but a major responsibility, and urged scholars to ensure that their research outcomes contribute meaningfully to the province, the country, farmers and the wider community.
He noted that research on cotton leaf curl disease and post-harvest losses in onion was crucial for safeguarding Sindh’s major crops, while studies on cucumber diseases under plastic tunnels would support protected agriculture in arid regions. Dr Siyal added that research on selenium supplementation in goats would help improve livestock health and productivity, while work on genetic variants affecting milk and cheese quality could strengthen the dairy sector. He further observed that effective management of tomato fruit borer and fungal diseases in chili nurseries would directly benefit growers by reducing losses and enhancing crop yields.
The meeting was attended by Dean Faculty of Crop Production Dr Inayatullah Rajper, Dean Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences Dr Ghiyasuddin Shah Rashdi, Dean Facultu of Crop Protection and Director Advanced Studies Dr. Abdul Mubeen Lodhi, Dean Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology Dr. Munir Ahmed Mangrio, Controller of Examinations Riasat Ali Kubar, along with heads of various departments, supervisors and other members.

BCFR delegation calls on Chinese Consul General in Karachi

KARACHI, Dec 25 (APP):A delegation of the Balochistan Council on Foreign Relations (BCFR) and Team Balochistan met with Chinese Consul General Yang Yundong during a dinner meeting at the Chinese Consulate here the other day.
The delegation, comprising of prominent personalities Changgaiz Hussain Khan, Muhammad Khan, and Ahmad Khan, discussed strengthening Pakistan–China relations through social welfare initiatives, academic cooperation, and an upcoming seminar on bilateral friendship. Both sides emphasized youth development, women empowerment, and the use of Chinese technological expertise in Balochistan.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of souvenirs, reaffirming mutual commitment to continued cooperation and friendship.

Rana Munawar Ghous pays tribute to Quaid-e-Azam on 149th birth anniversary

SARGODHGA, Dec 25 (APP):Provincial Minister for Usher & Zakat Punjab Rana Munawar Ghous Khan on Thursday paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on his 149th birth anniversary,urging the nation to uphold the founder’s principles of democracy,constitutionalism,social justice and religious harmony.
According to a spokesperson,the minister said the occasion provided an opportunity for reflection and a reaffirmation of commitment to building a welfare state based on equality and the rule of law.

ITP issues traffic diversion advisory for Expressway, Srinagar Highway

ISLAMABAD, Dec 25 (APP):Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has announced a traffic diversion plan from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Thursday on the Expressway and Srinagar Highway to ensure smooth traffic flow during the specified hours.
An ITP official told APP that traffic diversions will be enforced at different points on the Expressway and Srinagar Highway, which may cause temporary inconvenience to commuters.
Alternative routes advised:
The motorists traveling from Rawat towards the Expressway are advised to use Rawalpindi–Peshawar Road and the road users coming from IJP Road towards the Expressway should use inner-city service roads. Similarly the motorists traveling from Srinagar Highway towards the Expressway are also advised to use inner-city service roads to avoid delays.
The official advised citizens to plan their journeys in advance and leave with an additional 20 to 25 minutes to reach their destinations on time.
He added that ITP officers will remain deployed on roads to facilitate commuters and ensure smooth traffic management during the diversion period.

ISLAMABAD, Dec 25 (APP): Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday paid rich tributes to the Founder of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, praising his unwavering principles, honesty and historic struggle that changed the course of history.

In his message on the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Naqvi said Quaid-e-Azam’s life stood as a shining example of the rule of law and truth. He saluted Jinnah’s monumental political, social, and economic struggle for safeguarding the rights of Muslims of the subcontinent.

He noted that through incredible hard work and unshakeable determination, Quaid-e-Azam transformed the movement for Pakistan into an organized and powerful national cause. Jinnah united the Muslims on one platform and turned the dream of an independent Muslim state into reality, he added.

DPM Dar reaffirms commitment to equality, pluralism on Quaid-e-Azam’s birth anniversary, Christmas

ISLAMABAD, Dec 25 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM), Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday said the coinciding occasions of the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the celebration of Christmas reflected Pakistan’s inclusive vision and strong moral foundations, rooted in equality, pluralism and respect for fundamental rights.

The DPM/FM paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, describing him as not only the architect of Pakistan’s independence but also a statesman of unwavering principles and exceptional clarity of vision, a statement from the DPM’s Office news said.

He said the Quaid had envisioned Pakistan as a democratic state based on equality, pluralism and respect for the rights of all citizens, without distinction of religion, race or ethnicity.

Recalling Quaid-e-Azam’s historic address of August 11, 1947, the DPM/FM noted that the founder of the nation had categorically affirmed that the state would make no distinction between its citizens. He said Pakistan’s commitment to protecting minority rights, equality and religious freedom remained a cornerstone of the Constitution and the country’s national ethos.

Extending warm Christmas greetings to the Christian community, the DPM/FM reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to religious freedom, equality and pluralism, as envisioned by the founding fathers and enshrined in the Constitution. He acknowledged the invaluable contributions of Christian citizens to Pakistan’s development, particularly in education, healthcare, public service and national defence, noting their dedication, patriotism and honourable service to the nation.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visits Catholic Church, joins Christmas celebrations

ISLAMABAD, Dec 25 (APP): Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday visited the Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Islamabad’s F-8 Sector, where he was warmly received by Archbishop Joseph Arshad of Islamabad–Rawalpindi.

The interior minister attended a special ceremony held in connection with Christmas celebrations. Children presented welcome flowers to the minister upon his arrival. Mohsin Naqvi, along with Archbishop Joseph Arshad and members of the Christian community, cut the Christmas cake to mark the occasion.

Naqvi extended heartfelt Christmas greetings to the Christian community and lit the “peace candle” together with church leaders and parish members. During the prayer service, children performed a welcome tableau, while Christmas carols were also presented.

Reverend Father Sylvester Joseph welcomed the minister on behalf of the Christian community and thanked him for joining the celebration.

Addressing the ceremony, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Christmas is a festival of joy, love, and brotherhood. He reaffirmed that all communities living in Pakistan enjoy equal status, as envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Naqvi added that all Pakistanis have equal rights and stand united under the Quaid’s guiding principles.

He noted that foolproof security arrangements had been ensured across the country for Christmas festivities.

The ceremony was attended by the Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Inspector General of Islamabad Police, Deputy Commissioner, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, among other officials.

Chinese-made intravenous Immunoglobulin (pH4) approved for sale in Pakistan

BEIJING, Dec 25 (APP): Guangdong Shuanglin Bio-pharmacy Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of PLBIO, has secured regulatory approval from Pakistan for its Intravenous Immunoglobulin (pH4), a key blood-derived therapeutic product widely used in clinical practice, its parent company announced on Wednesday in response to investor inquiries.

The drug registration certificate was jointly issued by Pakistan’s Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan. This approval enables expanded access in Pakistan to advanced biotherapeutic options, particularly for treating immune-related disorders.

The company has entered into an Exclusive Licensing and Supply Agreement with local distributor 3A Diagnostics, facilitating the product’s market entry. It noted that while the product is now available locally, no plasmapheresis centers have been established in Pakistan.

Intravenous Immunoglobulin (pH4) is a sterile, purified preparation derived from pooled human plasma, primarily containing IgG antibodies. It plays a vital role in replacing deficient antibodies in patients with immune disorders and in modulating abnormal immune responses in autoimmune conditions.

The introduction of this WHO-standard product strengthens Pakistan’s clinical capacity to manage conditions such as primary immunodeficiencies, autoimmune diseases, and severe infections. China Economic Net reported that the partnership also supports the resilience of Pakistan’s pharmaceutical supply chain and aligns with efforts to diversify sources of essential medicines, contributing to public health infrastructure and bilateral healthcare cooperation between China and Pakistan.

SSP Operations reviews Christmas security at churches across Capital

ISLAMABAD, Dec 25 (APP):Islamabad Police have put in place foolproof security arrangements for Christmas, with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Qazi Ali Raza personally monitoring field deployments and reviewing security measures at churches across the federal capital.
An official told APP on Thursday that SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza visited various churches in different parts of the city, where he inspected security arrangements and met with church administrations to ensure smooth and peaceful celebrations.
During the visits, the SSP Qazi reviewed deployment of police personnel, access control measures and overall preparedness, and directed officers to remain vigilant and proactive. He emphasized that Islamabad Police are ensuring protection for followers of all religions without discrimination.
SSP Qazi  said that the safety of citizens’ lives and property remained the top priority of Islamabad Police, particularly during religious events and public gatherings. He urged church administrations and participants to cooperate with police during security checks to avoid any inconvenience.
He reiterated that ICT Police stand for peace, tolerance and religious harmony, and would continue to remain fully alert to ensure that Christmas celebrations are held in a secure and peaceful environment across the capital./

President Zardari extends Christmas greetings, reaffirms commitment to religious freedom, harmony

ISLAMABAD, Dec 25 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday extended warm Christmas greetings to the Christian community in Pakistan and across the world, describing the festival as a message of hope, peace and compassion for all humanity.

In his message issued by the Presidency, the president said Christmas symbolised love, tolerance and empathy, values that were essential for promoting harmony and peaceful coexistence in society. He emphasized that Pakistan was founded on the principles of equality, justice and religious freedom for all citizens.

President Zardari recalled that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had unequivocally guaranteed complete religious freedom to people of all faiths, enabling them to practice their beliefs without fear or discrimination. He said that the Constitution of Pakistan ensured equal rights and religious freedom for every citizen, regardless of religion.

Paying tribute to the Christian community, the president acknowledged their valuable contributions to national development, stating that Christian citizens had played a significant role in politics, defence, education and healthcare. He noted that their services and sacrifices were a source of pride for the nation.

The president also paid homage to prominent Christian figures, including S.P. Singha, lauding his historic services in support of Pakistan’s creation, and Air Commodore Cecil Chaudhry, the hero of the 1965 war, for his bravery and distinguished role in the defence of the country.

President Zardari reaffirmed the government’s resolve to promote religious harmony, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, stating that diversity was Pakistan’s strength and a source of national unity.
