By-elections on 6 NA, 7 PA seats on Sunday with strict security measures
ISLAMABAD, Nov 22 (APP): Election authorities have finalized preparations for the Sunday by-elections in six National Assembly (NA) and seven Punjab Assembly (PA) constituencies, with extensive security and logistical measures in place to ensure transparent and orderly polling.
The election campaign for by-elections in these 13 National and Provincial Assembly constituencies concluded at midnight between November 21 and 22. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found violating the electoral code of conduct.
Polling is scheduled to take place on Sunday (Nov 23) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. without interruption. The district administration, in coordination with the Election Commission, has made comprehensive arrangements for logistics and transport to ensure a smooth and orderly polling process.
For the National Assembly, voting will be held in NA-18 Haripur, NA-96 Faisalabad, NA-104 Faisalabad, NA-129 Lahore, NA-143 Sahiwal, NA-185 D.G. Khan, PP-73 Sargodha, PP-87 Mianwali, PP-98 Faisalabad, PP-115 Faisalabad, PP-116 Faisalabad, PP-203 Sahiwal and PP-269 Muzaffargarh.
The constituencies fell vacant following the disqualification of a number of lawmakers in connection with cases stemming from the May 9 events.
The federal government has sanctioned the deployment of Pakistan Army personnel to maintain security during the upcoming by-elections.
According to the official notification, troops will be stationed in designated constituencies from November 22 to 24, serving as a reserve force to support election security arrangements.
President lauds security forces for successful operation against Fitna al-Khwarij
ISLAMABAD, Nov 22 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari, Saturday, appreciated the security forces and law-enforcement agencies for the successful joint intelligence operation in Bannu against the Fitna al-Khwarij operating under the Indian patronage.
The president saluted the determination and bravery of Jawans for eliminating eight terrorists involved in terrorist activities with Indian backing, President Secretariat Press Wing said in a press release.
He observed that coordinated actions against the Khwarij were further strengthening national solidarity.
The president stressed that eliminating the organized terrorist networks operating under the Indian patronage was a top national priority.
The complete eradication of foreign-backed terrorists from the homeland was essential for the survival of the country, he added.
Gold price rises by Rs2,300 per tola
ISLAMABAD, Nov 22 (APP): The price of 24-karat gold increased by Rs2,300 on Saturday, reaching Rs428,862 per tola, compared to Rs426,562 on the previous day, according to the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association.
Similarly, the price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold rose by Rs1,972, climbing to Rs367,680 from Rs365,708 a day earlier. The 10 grams of 22-karat gold were sold for Rs337,052, up by Rs1,808, against the previous rate of Rs335,244.
In the international market, gold prices increased by $23, reaching $4,065 compared to $4,042 on the preceding day.
Likewise, the per tola price of 24-karat silver surged by Rs48, settling at Rs5,270 against Rs5,222 on Friday. The price of 10 grams of 24-karat silver rose to Rs4,518, marking an increase of Rs41 from Rs4,477 previously.
International silver was traded at $49.98, showing a rise of $0.48 compared to $49.50 on the last trading day.
