15 power pilferers nabbed

SARGODHGA, Oct 31 (APP):The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO), Sargodha Circle, has apprehended 15 individuals involved in power pilferage and registered 29 cases during its ongoing crackdown against electricity theft.
A FESCO spokesperson reported on Friday that task force teams, acting on the orders of the Superintendent Engineer, conducted raids across various areas within the circle to catch power pilferers in the act.
In the last 24 hours alone, authorities arrested one individual in Sargodha City, registered three cases against consumers in Shahpur, and apprehended five thieves caught red-handed while stealing electricity through unauthorized connections and tampering with meters.
FESCO vowed to continue its efforts to combat power theft and ensure the integrity of its services.

12 criminals nabbed

SARGODHGA, Oct 31 (APP):Police claimed on Friday to have arrested 12 alleged criminals from various parts of the district.
The teams of different police stations raided various localities and arrested Naveed, Saleem, Arslan, Tahir, Wajid, Shams, Shahid, Arif, Rehan, Majid, Mubashir and Zain and recovered 1.8-kg hashish, nine pistols, five guns, three Kalashnikovs, 490 bullets and cash in millions of rupees from them.
Further investigation was underway.

Two students critically injured in train accident in Kot Addu

MUZAFFARGARH, Oct 31 (APP):Two students were critically injured after being hit by the Thal Express in suburban area of Fakir Wali, Kot Addu, on Friday.
According to initial reports, the victims, identified as Obaidullah, son of Muhammad Nazeer, and Muhammad Yasir, son of Naim Akhtar, were crossing the railway tracks when they were struck by the slow-moving Thal Express.The train was traveling from Rawalpindi to Multan.
Witnesses said the students were talking to each other and failed to notice the approaching train, which hit them and threw them off the track.
Rescue 1122 teams reached the spot and shifted both injured students to Kot Addu Hospital, where doctors described their condition as critical.
Police have been informed and started an investigation into the incident.

Bangladesh delegation visits CSA to promote regional cooperation, shared learning

LAHORE, Oct 31 (APP):A high-level delegation from the government of Bangladesh visited the Civil Services Academy (CSA), Lahore, reaffirming the spirit of friendship, brotherhood and cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh – two Muslim nations committed to excellence in governance, integrity as well as public service.
The delegation was led by His Excellency Prof. Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Emeritus Professor at Western Sydney University (Australia) and Special Assistant (State Minister), other members included Dr. K. M. Kabir-ul-Islam, former Senior Secretary, government of Bangladesh; Dr. Muhammad Sharif-ul-Islam, former Senior Secretary, government of Bangladesh; Mr. Junaayed Masrur Khan, Entrepreneur; Dr. Muhammad Mizan-ur-Rehman, Additional Secretary, Economic Relations Division (ERD), Bangladesh; and Mr. Bilal Mahmood Chaudhary, Director General (South Asia & SAARC).
During the visit, Prof. Dr. Anisuzzaman delivered a lecture on “Justice: From Local to Global – Can Islam Guide Public Administrators?” to 136 probationary officers of the 53rd Common Training Programme (CTP) and faculty members of the CSA. He highlighted the Islamic principles of justice (Adl), equity (Qist), and trust (Amanah) as the moral foundations of good governance and effective public service. He reminded the probationers that, as future civil servants, they bear the responsibility to serve the nation selflessly, uphold public trust, and ensure justice and fairness for all citizens, a duty rooted in faith, integrity, and commitment to national service.
Director General CSA, Farhan Aziz Khawaja welcomed the delegation and noted that such visits promote regional collaboration and mutual learning in areas such as civil service training, leadership development, and policy innovation. He emphasized that Pakistan and Bangladesh can build enduring partnerships through faculty exchanges, joint training programs, and research initiatives contributing to regional peace and institutional excellence.
Souvenirs were presented to the distinguished guests as a gesture of goodwill and appreciation. The Bangladeshi delegation expressed deep satisfaction over the warm hospitality and professional engagement at CSA, commending the Academy’s commitment to nurturing ethical, service-oriented, and competent public officers.

KP Bar Council elections 2025, campaigns enter final stage as election fever peaks in Hazara Division

ABBOTTABAD, Oct 31 (APP):Election activities for the upcoming Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council elections have reached their peak across the Hazara Division.
Lawyers from Abbottabad, Mansehra, and Haripur are vigorously campaigning for their respective candidates.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council elections to be held on November 1, 2025. Out of the 28 seats of the provincial bar council, five seats have been allocated for Hazara Division where two each for Abbottabad and Mansehra, and one for Haripur.
A total of 15 candidates is contesting these seats, making the competition intense and highly engaging.
In Abbottabad, eight candidates are contesting for two seats. Prominent among them are former District Bar President Asad Khan Jadoon, and former KP Bar Council members Syed Faisal Shah and Ali Khan Jadoon.
Other candidates include Kamran Gul, Saeed Tanoli, Malik Waseem, and Zarif Qureshi. Reportedly, Abdul Aziz Khan Tanoli is contesting as a covering candidate for Faisal Shah.
In Haripur, a direct contest is expected between former District Bar Presidents Asadullah Malik and Syed Shahid Shah, while in Mansehra, five candidates are vying for two seats. These include Waqas Raza Khan, Sardar Waqar-ul-Malik, Hafiz Naseem Khan, Rafiq Yousaf, and Kamran Rehmani.
Across the Hazara Division, 2,370 lawyers will exercise their right to vote — including 850 from Abbottabad, 702 from Haripur, and 600 from Mansehra.
Additionally, a smaller number of lawyers from Havelian, Ghazi, Balakot, Oghi, and Battagram will also cast their votes.
According to sources, each voter will be entitled to cast five votes — two for Abbottabad, two for Mansehra, and one for Haripur — making the electoral process even more competitive and vibrant.

Terrorists blow up telephone exchange

LAKKI MARWAT, Oct 31 (APP):Terrorists carried out an explosion in the Takhti Khel Nazar Deen Adda area here destroying a telephone exchange late Thursday night.
The blast caused significant damage to the building, though fortunately, no casualties were reported.
According to police, the explosion was carried out by unidentified militants who planted explosives at the exchange.
Following the incident, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and police reached the site, cordoned off the area, and began collecting evidence.
A search operation has also been launched to trace and arrest those involved in the terrorist act.

SDEO inspects primary schools in Dera

Dera Ismail Khan , Oct 31 (APP):Sub-Divisional Education Officer (SDEO) Dera, Dr. Muhammad Humayun Khattak visited several primary schools including Government Primary Schools Zindani, Darwesha, Shero Khana, Garah Teli, Garah Ahmad, Shero Now, Khudka, Garah Dad, Taj, and Khutti.
During the visits, he reviewed the cleanliness and whitewash condition of school buildings, checked school records, and assessed students’ attendance and academic performance.
Dr. Khattak directed teachers to further improve the standard of teaching and ensure their regular attendance. He also emphasized the use of classroom learning tools such as charts, slates, and boards, terming them essential for strengthening students’ foundational learning skills.
He reaffirmed his commitment to providing quality education and a conducive learning environment in all schools across the area.

Knowledge, innovation & policy diplomacy to shape South Asia’s future: Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury

DHAKA, Oct 31 (BSS/APP): Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser and Emeritus Professor at Western Sydney University, Australia, has said that knowledge innovation, policy diplomacy, and the rebuilding of social trust would determine the future of South Asia.

Dr Chowdhury made the remarks while addressing the IAS-SANPA International Conference 2025 at the Institute of Administrative Sciences (IAS), University of the Punjab, Lahore.

The international event, themed “Local Realities and Regional Futures: Transforming Public Administration & Management in South Asia”, began today at the Riazuddin Auditorium, CEMB.

The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. Sidra Irfan. Professor Dr. Kashif Rathore, Director of IAS, University of the Punjab, delivered the welcome address, said a Finance Ministry press release.

Professor Dr. Akhlaque Haque, President of SANPA, highlighted the importance of knowledge exchange in advancing the practice of public administration in South Asia. Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali, Vice Chancellor of the University of the Punjab, spoke as the patron of the conference.

The Chief Guest, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Government of Pakistan, underscored the significance of policy coherence, administrative capacity-building and regional cooperation. He stated, “It is high time to transform South Asia’s geographic proximity into strategic partnership.”

In his speech, Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury emphasized that administration and development are not merely matters of structural reform; they require a synthesis of human values, justice, and contemporary knowledge systems. He called for regional policy coordination, research-based decision-making, and inclusive, technology-integrated governance as key to achieving sustainable development.

Dr. Chowdhury further stressed the need to involve youth and universities in knowledge partnerships and public innovation labs, and proposed strengthening the Bangladesh-Pakistan-South Asia Academic and Policy Diplomacy Platform. Reflecting on the region’s shared history, he noted, “Where political boundaries divide us, the pursuit of knowledge and development brings us together.”

The event was attended by High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Pakistan, senior officials of the University of the Punjab, policymakers, researchers, and international participants. Over the two days, leading South Asian scholars, administrators, and policy experts will exchange ideas on the transformation of governance and public management in the region.
