Indonesian Ambassador stresses for strengthening Pak-Indonesia economic, trade partnership

ISLAMABAD, Jul 25 (APP):Ambassador-designate of Indonesia to Pakistan, Chandra Warsenanto Sukotjo has said that Indonesia and Pakistan are significant economic and trade partner and this strategic partnership needs to be strengthened.
Ambassador of Indonesia to Pakistan, Chandra Warsenanto Sukotjo said this while addressing a seminar on the theme of “Economic Integration between Pakistan and ASEAN” here organized by the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).
“There is a need to utilize bilateral potential sectors to further strengthen economic and trade relations between Indonesia and Pakistan” he said.
For increasing the bilateral trade connection between Indonesia and Pakistan, cooperation in digital business, Halal food, tourism and seafood should be accelerated to evolve long-term strategy goals.

Ambassador Sukotjo said that ASEAN is not only a region but an economic force, which is the fifth-largest place in the world and has $ 3.9 trillion annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
He urged the Private Sector and the Chamber of Commerce to play their vital role in enhancing the economic and trade integration between ASEAN and Pakistan.
He stressed the need for improving the trade supply chain and also enhancing the concept of shared prosperity between both sides.
At present, there is a need for collaboration between the financial institutions of both countries, which will further strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations through institutional cooperation.
Indonesian envoy said that “We have to adopt the ‘Look East Policy,’ to promote bilateral ties and work on regional trade integration, which will further strengthen the trade supply chain.”

He said that rice is a major export from Pakistan to Indonesia, but we have to move towards alternative sectors.
The private sector can play a significant role in promoting bilateral trade and said that it is the responsibility of both sides to integrate both side’s economies.
The Ambassador said that there is a need to find new avenues at the commodity level by following the policy of trade diversification, and “we also have to introduce new avenues for the growth of mutual trade.”
The envoy also stressed the need to promote the people-to-people connection between both sides to strengthen the bilateral ties.

PSX turns bullish, gains 514 points

ISLAMABAD, Jul 25 (APP):The Pakistan Stock Exchange’s (PSX) benchmark KSE-100 turned around to bullish trend on Friday, gaining 514.62 points, a positive change of 0.37 percent, closing at 139,207.29 8 points against 138,692.67 points last trading day.
A total of 634,810,939 shares were traded during the day as compared to 648,800,865 shares the previous trading day, whereas the price of shares stood at Rs 24.611 billion against Rs 28.117 billion on the last trading day.
As many as 479 companies transacted their shares in the stock market, 211 of them recorded gains and 236 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 32 companies remained unchanged.
The three top trading companies were Bank of Punjab with 50,256,609 shares at Rs 13.60 per share, Fauji Foods Limited with 48,876,899 shares at Rs16.29 per share and Aisha Steel Mill with 35,595,347 shares at Rs 12.34 per share.
Unilever Pakistan Foods witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 529.12 per share price, closing at Rs 34,139.55, whereas the runner-up was Atlas Honda Limited with Rs 61.39 rise in its per share price to Rs 1,160.25.
PIA Holding Company LimitedB witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs1,642.97 per share closing at Rs 31,934.62 followed by Nestle Pakistan Limited with Rs174.04 decline in its share price to close at Rs7,699.77.

COMSTECH signs MoU with Tang Chinese Education and Technology Ltd. to promote educational cooperation

ISLAMABAD, Jul 25 (APP):The OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), Pakistan, and Tang Chinese Education and Technology Ltd., Beijing, China, have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in science, technology and  education between China and OIC member states.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH  and Mr. Li Jinsong, President and Founder of Tang Chinese Education and Technology Ltd., in a ceremony held in COMSTECH Secretariat Islamabad.
The agreement marks a significant step in fostering academic collaboration and knowledge exchange across borders.
Under the MoU, both parties have agreed to collaborate in various areas. These include the launch of China-Pakistan joint education programs under the CCTE Mode in areas of mutual interest and value.
School-enterprise cooperation projects will be developed based on market-driven human resource demands, particularly catering to Chinese-funded enterprises operating in Pakistan and other OIC countries.
A Chinese language demonstration program will be introduced through the TANG Cloud Platform for students and faculty of COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence (CCoE) institutions.
The agreement also includes faculty training and exchange programs between Chinese universities and CCoE member institutions, sharing of experiences in innovative teaching methods, curriculum design, and the use of modern educational tools. Additionally, both sides will organize joint symposia, conferences, and events such as the China-Pakistan International Industrial-Academic Cooperation Alliance and cultural exchange activities.
Witnessing the signing ceremony, Ms. Song Jianying, CEO of Tang Chinese Education and Technology Ltd., Islamabad, expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential to drive impactful educational cooperation across the OIC region.
Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary reaffirmed COMSTECH’s dedication to enhancing science and technology collaboration among OIC member countries.
He emphasized that international partnerships like this are vital to building an ecosystem of innovation and achieving sustainable, knowledge-based economic development in the Muslim world.

Representing the NUST School of Chemical & Materials Engineering and a proud member of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan Sports Contingent, Taimour delivered a stellar performance, defeating his Cypriot opponent with a clean 3-0 sweep.
His commanding play—featuring powerful smashes, sharp loops, precise chops, and swift flicks—left the opponent unable to recover, earning him a well-deserved spot in the next round.
According to the NUST, this historic victory not only advances Pakistan in the competition but also marks a turning point in the nation’s university-level sports participation on the global stage.
Pakistan’s 40-member contingent is currently competing in seven sports categories at the Games, including judo, taekwondo, swimming, athletics, and archery.

IUB, Chinese research centre ink agreement

BAHAWALPUR, Jul 25 (APP):The Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) and Gansu Academy of Agriculture Sciences, China, have inked a joint venture to conduct joint research in agriculture field.
Vice Chancellor Islamia University Bahawalpur Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran and President Gansu Academy of Agriculture Sciences, China, put their signatures on the agreement made in a ceremony held through video link conference system.
According to an official press release issued by the IUB, the joint venture inked between the IUB and Gansu Academy of Agriculture Sciences would help in sharing knowledge, skills and experience in the field of agriculture. “The two educational institutes will share their knowledge on agriculture sciences besides conducting joint research in this field,” the press release said.
It further said that under the agreement, academicians, students and researchers of both educational institutes will visit IUB and Gansu Academy of Agriculture Sciences, respectively. The two institutes will also jointly organize seminars, conferences and joint research projects in this regard.

Governor discusses Independence Day celebrations

KARACHI, Jul 25 (APP):Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori met a delegation of the MQM Graduate Forum at the Governor House to discuss proposals for the upcoming “Battle for Truth Independence Day” celebrations scheduled to take place from August 1 to 14.
      The delegation was led by Dr Abdul Qadir Khanzada while senior MQM Pakistan leader Dr Farooq Sattar and other members were also present during the meeting.
     The meeting included detailed discussions on education, healthcare, employment, and welfare. Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori acknowledged the social contributions and valuable suggestions of the Graduate Forum and reaffirmed his commitment to guiding and empowering the youth of the province.
    He stated that under the Governor’s Initiative, several transformative projects are currently being run at the Governor’s House, including IT training classes, scholarship programs, and entrepreneurship development courses.
    He further said that young individuals who present strong business proposals are being provided with interest-free loans to help them establish their ventures and become self-sufficient.
   Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori emphasized that every possible resource is being utilized to guide the youth of Sindh towards a promising and successful future.

Widespread rain, wind and thundershowers expected as monsoon intensifies across Pakistan from July 28

ISLAMABAD, Jul 25 (APP):The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted more rains accompanied by wind and thundershowers across various regions of the country as weak monsoon currents are currently penetrating upper and central Pakistan and are likely to intensify from July 28.
A westerly wave was also expected to enter Pakistan on July 29, which will further strengthen the weather system.
According to the advisory, rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are likely in the following regions:
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, areas including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur are expected to receive rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls from July 27 to 31, with occasional gaps.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, districts such as Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar will also experience rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls from July 27 to 31, with occasional gaps.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall is predicted in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, North and South Waziristan, Tank, and Dera Ismail Khan from July 28 to 31, with occasional gaps.
In the Punjab province and Islamabad Capital Territory, rain-wind/thundershowers with scattered heavy falls are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Kasur, and Okara from July 28 to 31, with occasional gaps. Additionally, rain-wind/thundershowers are likely in southern Punjab including Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Vehari, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Kot Addu from July 29 to 31, with occasional gaps.
In Balochistan, rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in northeastern and southern districts including Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibi, Harnai, Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Lasbela, Awaran, Khuzdar, Quetta, Zhob, Qilla Saifullah, Qilla Abdullah, Ziarat, Kalat, and Sherani from the night of July 29 to July 31.
In Sindh province, mainly hot and humid weather is expected to persist in most parts. However, rain-wind/thundershowers are likely in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpur Khas, Mithi, Khairpur, Dadu, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Sanghar, Sukkur, Ghotki, and Larkana on July 30 and 31, with occasional gaps.
The PMD has also issued an impact-based advisory stating that heavy rainfall may generate flash floods in local nullahs and streams of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and adjoining parts of northeastern Balochistan, northeast Punjab and Kashmir from July 29 to 31.
Urban flooding is also likely in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, and Sialkot during July 28 (night) to 31.
Landslides and mudslides may lead to road blockages in vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir during the forecast period.
Windstorms and lightning may damage weak structures, such as kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, solar panels, and vehicles during the rainy spell.
The PMD has advised the general public, travelers, and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel or exposure to vulnerable or disaster-prone areas and to stay updated on the latest weather alerts.
All concerned authorities have been urged to remain on alert and take all necessary precautionary measures to prevent any untoward situation during the forecast period.
