In a statement on Wednesday, Shah extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and the swift recovery of the injured. PAL hosts special event to pay tribute to Patras Bokhari’s exceptional contributions

ISLAMABAD, Jul 16 (APP):Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) hosted a special event on Wednesday in memory of the legendary literary figure, humorist, broadcaster, and diplomat Syed Ahmad Shah Patras Bokhari, to pay tribute to his exceptional contributions.
The event was presided over by renowned scholar, writer, and Senator Irfan Siddiqui, with Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, serving as the chief guest.
Parliamentary Secretary for National Heritage and Culture, Farah Naz Akbar, and Federal Secretary, Asad Rehman Gilani, also attended as guests of honor.
This memorable event also marked the inauguration of the newly renovated conference hall, officially opened by Senator Irfan Siddiqui. Distinguished guests shared their reflections on Patras Bokhari’s literary legacy and the importance of academic and literary institutions.

The event stood out for its distinctive structure, with two particularly noteworthy segments. The first was a dramatic adaptation of Patras Bokhari’s famous essay “Sowairay Jo Kal Aankh Meri Khuli” (When I Woke Up Yesterday Morning), performed artistically by Sawang Theatre.
The performance was highly praised by the audience, and Federal Minister Aurangzeb Khichi was so impressed that he announced a special prize on the spot.
The second highlight was a dialogue between Dr. Farrukh Nadeem and  Ayaz Bokhari, the grandson of Patras Bokhari. The conversation offered valuable insights into Patras Bokhari’s life, literary brilliance, and diplomatic career. Documentaries showcasing his remarkable life journey were also screened.
This session served not only as a heartfelt tribute to Patras Bokhari but also played a vital role in introducing the younger generation to the high standards of Urdu humor writing.

Senator Siddiqui, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, expressed these views while speaking to APP after inaugurating a newly renovated hall named after the late Sindhi poet Sheikh Ayaz, as well as following the special event held in memory of Patras Bokhari at PAL on Wednesday.
Senator Siddiqui remarked that it was a wonderful event and that the institution, under the leadership of Dr Najeeba Arif, deserved great appreciation.
He highlighted that two significant events took place: the inauguration of the newly renovated hall dedicated to Sheikh Ayaz, and a commemorative session honoring the remarkable literary contributions of Patras Bokhari.
He further stated that Patras Bokhari’s legacy was celebrated — a towering figure in humor writing, diplomacy, education, and communication. He also noted Bokhari’s strong association with radio broadcasting.

Minister visits constituency to address public grievances

PESHAWAR, Jul 16 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Food, Zahir Shah Toru, paid a detailed visit to his constituency on Wednesday, where he reviewed the drainage problems and the poor condition of roads in the area.
Officers from the Communication and Works (C&W) Department, along with officials from relevant departments and representatives of the Village Council Toru, accompanied the Minister during the visit.
Taking notice of public complaints, the Minister directed the concerned authorities to immediately improve the drainage system in the area and to initiate road repair and reconstruction projects on a priority basis.
The officials from the C&W Department assured the Provincial Minister that these development projects would be implemented without delay.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Zahir Shah Toru stated that the provincial government is giving top priority to public welfare projects to ensure that citizens can benefit from basic facilities.

PML-N leading solutions agenda to redress public problems: Raja Hanif

RAWALPINDI, Jul 16 (APP):Chairman Chief Minister Inspection Team Punjab, Raja Muhammad Hanif on Wednesday said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government was leading solutions agenda to redress public problems.
He added that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has clearly instructed officials to ensure quick and lasting solutions to problems faced by citizens.
CM Inspection Team chair, Raja Hanif was speaking to residents during the inauguration of a new tube well in A Block, Satellite Town, Union Council 26. The new tube well aims to permanently solve the area’s long-standing water shortage.
He said providing clean water to Rawalpindi people is his personal mission. “The water crisis in Satellite Town A Block has finally ended today with the installation of this modern tube well,” he stated. “This is not just a source of water but a promise fulfilled.”
Raja Hanif emphasized that the PML-N government always puts public welfare first. He said development work is ongoing in every street, neighborhood, and union council. He also assured locals that more development projects will be completed soon and that he will personally visit areas to inspect public problems.
Officials from WASA and the district administration briefed attendees at the event. They said the new tube well is equipped with modern machinery that will ensure a steady supply of clean water for the area.
A large number of local residents, senior citizens, and PML-N leaders attended the event. People appreciated Raja Hanif and the Punjab government for solving a major problem. Women and elderly citizens said the water shortage had made summers especially difficult, and they are now thankful for this much-needed solution.

Tortured body found

KHANEWAL, Jul 16 (APP):A 50-year-old man was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a village near Khanewal, with clear signs of torture on his body, local police said.
According to details, the incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Talamba Police Station in village 123 Seven ER, where the body of the deceased, identified as Faiz, was recovered from his house. Police said the man used to live alone.
On receiving information from local residents, a team from Talamba Police Station reached the spot and shifted the body to a local hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police officials stated that initial evidence suggests visible torture marks on the victim’s body, however, the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report.
In view of the nature of the incident, police have initiated a thorough investigation from multiple angles. Search operations are underway to trace the suspects, and officials said that they are committed to bringing the facts to light as soon as possible.
