213 proclaimed offenders arrested during July

FAISALABAD, Jul 18 (APP):The police arrested 213 proclaimed offenders (POs) from different parts of Faisalabad during first fortnight of July 2025.
A police spokesman Tariq Jatt said here on Friday that the police launched a crackdown on criminals. During this drive, the police nabbed 213 proclaimed offenders including 89 proclaimed offenders of category-A and 124 of category-B during first half of current month. He said that the police also arrested 91 gamblers and recovered bet money of Rs.220,000/- and other items from their possession during this period.
Similarly, the police also arrested 185 drug traffickers along with 62.136 kilograms (kg) Charas, 5.723 kg ICE, 24700 kg Heroin, 2996 liter Liquor and 30 liters un-distilled wine during July 2025.
Meanwhile, the police also recovered 90 pistols, 7 Kalashnikovs, 4 rifles, 141 guns, 3 repeaters, 2 revolvers, one carbine and a number of bullets/cartridges after arresting 125 illicit weapon holders from Faisalabad during this period, he added.

Private company officials discuss Jinnah Park conversion into amusement park

MULTAN, Jul 18 (APP):The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) continues to take significant steps toward transforming Jinnah Park into a state-of-the-art themed amusement park.
In this regard, representatives from a private company met with Director General PHA, Kareem Bakhsh and gave him a comprehensive briefing on the proposed developments.
During the meeting, DG PHA stated that the city’s major park would be revitalized and developed according to modern standards. Planned attractions include artificial dinosaurs, children’s gaming zones, a horror house, and various recreational facilities to provide families with a complete entertainment experience.
DG PHA further emphasized that PHA Multan was committed to implementing the Green Vision of the Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Under the supervision of the Commissioner Multan Division Aamir Karim Khan, efforts were also being made to upgrade and beautify other parks in the city to offer the public better, greener and more vibrant recreational spaces.

Commissioner meets Chinese consul general, discusses matters of mutual interest

MULTAN, Jul 18 (APP):Commissioner Multan Division Aamir Kareem Khan and Deputy Commissioner Waseem Hamid Sindhu called on Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren and Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab Fuad Hashim Rabbani at the South Punjab Secretariat.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and discussing matters of mutual interest. The Chinese Consul General stated that the objective of his visit to South Punjab was to enhance collaboration and expand strategic partnerships. He shared that Chinese companies were actively working in the region to introduce high-quality seeds, which will help boost per-acre agricultural productivity. He further mentioned that joint initiatives in desert farming and mechanized agriculture were being launched to promote modern and sustainable farming practices.
He also revealed that a plan was under preparation to expand the Karakoram Highway, which will significantly improve regional connectivity.
Additional Chief Secretary Mr. Fuad Hashim Rabbani appreciated the performance of Commissioner Aamir Kareem Khan and commended the dedicated and efficient administrative team working under his leadership. He said that beautification and development projects were actively being carried out in all major cities of Multan division.
Commissioner Aamir Kareem Khan highlighted that sewerage was the most critical urban issue facing Multan. He explained that around 500 kilometers of the city’s sewerage lines need replacement, with an estimated cost of Rs. 24 billion. Once completed, the project will resolve the city’s sewerage challenges for the next 20 years. He informed that the proposed plan has already been submitted to the provincial government.
He further shared that the government was making efforts to secure $300 million in funding from the World Bank to address sewerage infrastructure problems in seven cities, including Multan and Rahim Yar Khan.
The Commissioner also proposed establishing a China Town in South Punjab to facilitate Chinese investors and engineers, stating that such a dedicated zone would also address potential security and operational concerns.Deputy Commissioner Waseem Hamid Sindhu said that there are no security issues  to Chinese or other foreign nationals residing in Multan. He also informed that a comprehensive mega plan for the restoration of historical and cultural heritage in the region is currently under development.
To mark the occasion, Commissioner Aamir Kareem Khan presented a beautiful souvenir to the Chinese Consul General.
Later in the day, the Chinese Consul General visited the shrine of Hazrat Shah Rukn-e-Alam, where he laid a traditional chadar  at the tomb. He also visited the TEVTA Institute of Blue Pottery, observed various stages of pottery-making, and interacted with skilled local artisans.

ACE arrests patwari for bribery, corruption

MUZAFFARGARH, Jul 18 (APP):A Circle Muzaffargarh team of Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Dera Ghazi Khan region on Friday arrested a patwari on the charge of taking illegal gratification in a property transfer case and depositing less amount in the government account as property transfer fee in another case causing loss to the exchequer.
A complainant Sajid Abbas had alleged in 2024 that Patwari Ghaffar Ahmad had received Rs 45,000 as illegal gratification from him to get the property transfer passed from the competent authority but he did not keep his promise.
In another case No. 16/2023, registered on the report of Rana Ghulam Hussain in 2023, the Patwari deposited less than scheduled property transfer fee in the exchequer, causing loss to the government.
On the orders of Director General ACE Punjab Sohail Zafar Chatha and DG Khan regional director Basharat Nabi, Muzaffargarh circle officer Muhammad Ramzan and his team arrested the accused Patwari, says ACE DG Khan focal person Shamshair Khan Gurmani in a statement on Friday. He will be produced before the court for further legal action.

Sialkot University hosts ‘AI Ethics’ training by UK professor

In the meeting with Chairman BOG Faisal Manzoor, future collaborations were discussed, including the vision of making USKT a research-driven institution and organizing a Communication and Business Conference.
During his session, Prof. Vlasios shared insights from his global academic experience, emphasizing the need to rethink traditional teaching practices, integrate AI meaningfully and engage students as active participants in the learning process.

Gold prices increase by Rs.2,500 to Rs.357,600 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Jul 18 (APP): The price of 24 karat per tola gold increased by Rs.2,500 and was traded at Rs.357,600 on Friday as compared to its sale at Rs. 355,100 on the last trading day, All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewelers Association reported.

The prices of 10 grams of 24 karat also increased by Rs2,143 to Rs.306,584 from Rs. 304,441 and for 10 grams of 22 Karat it went up by Rs.1,964 to Rs.281,045 from Rs. 279,081.

The rates of per tola and ten gram silver increased by Rs.48 and Rs.44 to Rs.4,012 and Rs.3,439 respectively.

The price of gold in the international market increased by $25 to $3,351 from $3,326 whereas that of silver rose by $0.48 to $38.28 from 37.80, the Association reported.

Junaid Anwar Chaudhry reviews proposals for Gwadar-Gulf ferry services

ISLAMABAD, Jul 18 (APP):Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry held a telephonic conversation with the Chief Minister of Balochistan to discuss the scope and strategic importance of launching a ferry service from Gwadar to Gulf region.
The conversation took place during a high-level meeting chaired by the Minister to review the progress on the proposed ferry service, said a press release issued here on Friday.
The chief minister assured full cooperation from the Balochistan government, highlighting the potential socio-economic benefits for the province and beyond.
The meeting also reviewed proposals submitted by five private ferry operators. These proposals outlined the technical, operational, and financial aspects of launching new maritime routes from Gwadar.
The envisioned ferry routes are expected to link Gwadar Port with key destinations in the Gulf region, offering an affordable and efficient alternative for both passenger travel and cargo transport.
Minister Junaid Anwar stressed the strategic value of the initiative, noting that the service would not only reduce transportation costs but also boost regional trade integration and maritime activity.
He emphasized that successful implementation of the project could significantly elevate Pakistan’s maritime presence and transform Gwadar into a central hub in international sea trade networks.
“The ferry service will improve travel ease between Pakistan and Gulf states,” the Minister said. “It can position Gwadar as a vital link in regional connectivity and drive long-term economic development.”
The meeting concluded with instructions to conduct further evaluations of the submitted proposals. Authorities were directed to ensure that all regulatory, technical, and logistical considerations are fully addressed ahead of the ferry service launch.

NHA declares high alert amid flood emergency; activated central control room for nationwide coordination

ISLAMABAD, Jul 18 (APP): In response to recent heavy rains and flood-related emergencies across various parts of the country, the National Highway Authority (NHA) has issued a high alert and established a central control room at its headquarters here.
Chairman NHA Sheheryar Sultan instructed all relevant members, general managers, project directors, and field staff to remain fully alert with necessary machinery and equipment at flood-affected locations.
In a letter, he said that the engineers, officers and concerned staff should be present in the flood-affected areas at all times to carry out relief operations and restore all kinds of traffic so that the restoration works in the affected areas can be completed on time.
Emergency response teams have been immediately deployed in flood-affected areas and will maintain real-time communication with the NHA control room to report ground conditions and provide operational updates.
Chairman Shehryar Sultan also directed NHA officials to ensure timely and accurate public information through social media, FM radio, and television channels, so that citizens in affected regions are kept informed of road conditions and safety advisories.
He further instructed that NHA teams coordinate closely with local district administrations, especially in the event of road closures, infrastructure damage, or other emergencies. The goal, he said, is to ensure a swift and organized response in collaboration with civil authorities.
Chairman NHA also called upon field officials deployed in critical zones to prioritize traveler safety and play a key role in emergency assistance. He stressed that during storm and flood conditions, public relief, road restoration, and rescue efforts must take precedence over all other operations.
Reaffirming his personal oversight, Chairman Sultan said he is conducting emergency visits to affected areas to assess ongoing relief efforts, ensuring strict accountability and no room for negligence during this national emergency.
