PSX stays bullish, loses 291 points

ISLAMABAD, Nov 25 (APP): The benchmark KSE-100 Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday witnessed a bearish trend, losing 291.59 points, a decline of 0.18 percent, to close at 161,692.49 points compared to 161,984.09 points on the previous trading day.

A total of 590.53 million shares were traded in the ready market with a value of Rs22.15 billion, against 490.35 million shares worth Rs23.66 billion in the previous session. Market capitalisation decreased to Rs18.417 trillion from Rs18.469 trillion.

Out of 477 active companies, 155 closed higher, 284 declined, and 38 remained unchanged.

The leading companies in terms of ready-market turnover were WorldCall Telecom with 59.19 million shares, followed by Bank Makramah with 45.98 million shares, and PTCL with 38.77 million shares.

The top gainers were Shield Corporation Limited, which increased by Rs54.31 to close at Rs597.36, and The Thal Industries Corporation Limited, rising by Rs46.39 to close at Rs761.98.

Conversely, the major losers were Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited, which declined by Rs99.00 to close at Rs29,051.00, and ZIL Limited, decreasing by Rs53.21 to close at Rs531.63.

In the futures market, turnover stood at 387.49 million shares with a traded value of Rs17.55 billion, compared to 389.38 million shares valued at Rs33.27 billion on the previous day. Out of 318 futures-market companies, 93 recorded gains, 219 declined, and 6 remained unchanged.

The top volume contracts in the futures segment were WTL-Dec with 29.89 million shares, followed by WTL-Nov with 25.74 million shares, and PIAHCLA-Dec with 17.70 million shares.

Distt admin accelerates public service under KP CM’S district initiative

KOHAT, Nov 25 (APP): Deputy Commissioner Rahimullah Mehsud on Tuesday directed all the line departments to eliminate delays in resolving public grievances, submit regular progress reports, implement effective mechanisms for complaint redressal and maintain strict oversight of development projects.
He was chairing a key meeting on the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s “District Service Delivery” initiative, aimed at strengthening governance and ensuring efficient delivery of public services across the district.
The meeting brought together representatives from the district administration, all line departments, development agencies and officers responsible for service delivery.
Departments presented detailed briefings on ongoing welfare programs, progress of development projects and the quality of services provided to the citizens.
Deputy Commissioner Mehsud reviewed each department’s performance individually, highlighting areas requiring immediate improvement.
He emphasized that the initiative is a critical step toward enhancing transparency, efficiency and accountability, ensuring citizens receive timely services at their doorstep.
Mehsud reiterated that timely completion of public-interest projects and merit-based decision-making are top priorities, urging the officials to act responsibly and uphold public trust.

Junaid Chaudhry seeks IMO Council seat, pledges green, safe maritime initiatives

ISLAMABAD, Nov 25 (APP): Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to global maritime governance and announced its candidacy for the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council in Category C, highlighting the country’s growing role in the global shipping sector.
Addressing the opening session of the IMO Assembly in London, United Kingdom, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry on Tuesday emphasized Pakistan’s strategic importance, noting that its coastline of over 1,000 kilometres lies along some of the world’s most critical sea lanes connecting the Middle East, Central Asia, Africa, and the Indian Ocean region.
“Over the past year, Pakistan has implemented concrete initiatives in line with IMO conventions and global best practices, including port digitalization, maritime safety enhancement, green port development, and Artificial Intelligence-enabled Port Community Systems,” the minister said.
The IMO Assembly, is a United Nations agency with 193 member states, meets every two years where countries participate in its Council and Assembly to shape and influence global maritime policy.
Junaid Chaudhry outlined further developments, including the upgradation of the Pakistan Marine Academy, the establishment of Pakistan Maritime University, reforms in seafarer certification, and enhanced training standards aligned with the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention. Additional measures include strengthening vessel traffic management systems, improving marine pollution response capacity, and expanding coastal monitoring in collaboration with national and international partners.
“Pakistan is advancing its Maritime Vision 2047 and 2147,” Minister Chaudhry said, assuring that all planning aligns with IMO standards and the organization’s global vision.
He highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to the IMO’s climate agenda, noting ongoing efforts in energy-efficient shipping, marine environmental protection, and green ship recycling, particularly at Gaddani, where compliance with Hong Kong Convention standards is being strengthened.
The minister emphasized that Pakistan’s Category C candidature reflects its intention to contribute constructively to the global maritime community, pledging to promote fair access for developing maritime nations, strengthen support for seafarers’ welfare and training, advocate for climate cooperation for coastal and vulnerable island states, and advance the IMO’s mission of safe, secure, and environmentally responsible shipping.
Category C seats in the IMO Council are elected by the Assembly and include 20 member states with special maritime interests or those who enhance regional balance. These members help guide the IMO’s work and strategic direction, playing crucial roles in global maritime governance.
“History shows that real progress is made when nations choose to work together. Let this session be more than just another meeting. Let it become a turning point, a moment for cooperation, innovation, and bold action,” he concluded, affirming that Pakistan is ready to move forward toward a maritime future that is safer, greener, and more prosperous for all.

Newly elected MNA Babar vows development revolution in Haripur after electoral victory

HARIPURP, Nov 25 (APP):Newly elected Member of National Assembly, Babar Nawaz Khan on Tuesday said defeated political elements and the provincial government are attempting to evade embarrassment by leveling baseless and false allegations of rigging.
He stated that the people of Haripur have rejected the false claims of “change” and freed the district from the grip of the mafia.
Addressing public delegations from various areas outside his residence in Khalabat, Khan emphasized that the public has delivered its verdict, and it is now time for service. He added that political competition should focus on development and public welfare, rather than on accusations. A large number of party workers and community leaders were present during the gathering.
Khan outlined his development priorities, including the establishment of a modern hospital, construction of new sports grounds, setting up a Danish School, modern educational facilities, and the establishment of a university. He stressed that young people in the area should have easy access to education and employment opportunities at their doorstep. Measures will also be taken to allocate separate quotas in jobs for the youth of Haripur.
He assured that the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League (N) will bring a real developmental revolution to Haripur and urged the public to remain with him on this journey of progress and welfare to create new facilities and opportunities for the district.

Husband kills wife, injures daughter

PESHAWAR, Nov 25 (APP):A man shot and killed his wife and injured the daughter in the jurisdiction of Mechani Gate Police Station here, police informed on Tuesday.
According to the FIR filed by Waheed ur Rehman, a resident of Sabz Ali Town, his 65-year-old aunt Rameem Bibi and his cousin Alia, daughter of Gohar Rehman were at home when the accused, Gohar Rehman, armed with a weapon entered the house.
He allegedly opened fire on his wife and daughter, leaving both seriously injured. They were immediately shifted to the hospital, but the wife succumbed to her injuries on the way, while the daughter remains unconscious.
The complainant stated that the accused had been pressuring his wife to demand his share in the parents’ property. This dispute reportedly led to the violent attack.
Police have registered a case and launched a search operation to arrest the suspect.

Free medical camp held in Bajaur; 223 Patients treated

PESHAWAR, Nov 25 (APP): On the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Bajaur Shahid Ali Khan and District Health Officer Muhammad Hayat Afridi, a free medical camp was organized at Litai Pass in Tehsil Salarzai.
A team of doctors, nurses and specialists examined and treated local residents, providing medical consultation, initial treatment and essential medicines.
According to officials, a total of 223 patients were examined during the camp.
Men, women and children received healthcare services, with special attention given to children, women and elderly patients. The medical team also offered guidance and treatment plans tailored to each patient’s condition.
Authorities said such initiatives aim to improve healthcare access for remote communities and ensure timely medical assistance to those in need.

Anti pollution drive continues in Gujrat

GUJRAT, Nov 25 (APP):The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Gujrat, in collaboration with the Secretary RTA and Traffic Police, conducted an operation against smoke-emitting vehicles in the city.
The field operation was supervised by Deputy Director Environment, Osama Majid.
According to a spokesperson, a total of 30 vehicles were inspected, and 11 were found violating environmental regulations. Fines totaling Rs 22,000 were imposed on the offenders.

Aleem Khan visits Islamabad–Murree Expressway to review rehabilitation work

ISLAMABAD, Nov 25 (APP):Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan on Tuesday visited the Islamabad–Murree Expressway to review the ongoing beautification, rehabilitation, and improvement works underway along the route.
During his visit, Aleem Khan also inspected the rest areas on the expressway and issued necessary on-site instructions to ensure better facilities for commuters and tourists.
The federal minister directed the Secretary Communications to personally supervise the works in order to ensure the highest standards of quality. He further instructed that the remaining works on the Islamabad–Murree Expressway be completed at the earliest, and that all pending matters be finalized without delay.
Officials of the National Highway Authority (NHA) briefed the minister on the progress of the project. It was informed that the installation of new lighting has already been completed, while the beautification work on both sides of the expressway is in its final stages.
Aleem Khan emphasized that quality and safety shall not be compromised under any circumstances.

8 new cases of dengue reported in KP, raising total toll to 6110

PESHAWAR, Nov 25 (APP): Around 8 new cases of dengue have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last twenty four hours, raising the toll to total cases to 6110.
According to Dengue Situation Report issued by Public Health Section, Directorate General Health Services KP on Tuesday, out of 8 new cases around 1 patient has been hospitalized. Currently, four patients are in different hospitals getting treatment.
The total number of hospitalized patients due to dengue has been reached to 2086 till date, the report mentioned.
While out of total cases of 5889, around 5900 have been recovered from the disease. In all a total of four deaths have been reported in current year due to the vector borne infection.

Traffic assistant’s son wins top position in national AI competition

RAWALPINDI, Nov 25 (APP): The Rawalpindi Traffic Police on Tuesday announced that Muhammad Zulqarnain, the son of Traffic Assistant Noor Zaman, secured first position nationwide in the AI Wrapper Competition, earning recognition for both his family and the force.
A police spokesman said the university had awarded Zulqarnain a Rs1 million prize and a scholarship in acknowledgment of his achievement.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi, Farhan Aslam, presented a shield and a cash award to the student, praising his hard work and talent.
“Our officers’ and personnel’s children are like our own,” CTO Aslam said, adding that the success of a traffic assistant’s son was “a matter of pride for the entire police force”. He noted that encouraging staff boosted morale and enhanced performance across the department.
He further remarked that diligent and capable young people were “the pride of Pakistan”.
Zulqarnain attributed his success to “the prayers and hard work of my parents”.
