UAF to hold 2nd entry test for admission on 27th

FAISALABAD, Jul 24 (APP):The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) will arrange second entrance test for postgraduate degree programmes on July 27.
According to Director Graduate Studies Dr Khalid Bashir, the candidates for admission to MSc (Hons) /MS/MPhil/MBA/MBA Executive are required to qualify GAT securing least 50% marks.
For PhD, qualifying score for GRE (Subject Type Test 70%). The candidates who qualify the GAT/GRE (Subject) Type Test will apply for admission through online portal.

He said that last date to apply for the second entrance test of undergraduate programs is July 28 and the undergraduate entrance test will be held on Aug 3.

Punjab govt utilizing resources for cotton yield

MULTAN, Jul 24 (APP):Executive Member of the Punjab Agricultural Research Board MPA Rana Muhammad Saleem has emphasized that cotton remains the backbone of agricultural economy and the government is fully committed to increase its yield by using  all available resources.
He expressed these views while addressing a one-day awareness seminar on “Low-Cost and Modern Cotton Production Technology” held at Agronomic Research Station Khanewal  on Thursday. The seminar was attended by a large number of farmers, agricultural experts, and stakeholders.
Rana Saleem stated cotton yields can be improved by practically implementing modern research-based and cost-effective agricultural practices. “Research institutions are playing a key role in this process,” he added.
On the occasion, Principal Scientist Muhammad Iqbal gave a comprehensive briefing on recent research achievements and farmer-centric recommended practices.
Dr Rafiq Shahid, Senior Scientist at Cotton Research Institute Multan, elaborated on the strategy of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to protect the crop from pests.
Muhammad Kashif, a representative from a private fertilizer company, highlighted the importance of balanced and timely use of fertilizers. Arbab Jangir spoke on the modern cultivation techniques and termed it a viable option for crop diversification and farmer income enhancement.
Bismillah Aram, Member District Council, emphasized the crucial role of women in the agricultural sector while Deputy Director Agriculture (Extension) Muhammad Iqbal stressed the importance of strong coordination between institutions and farmers for agricultural progress.
The seminar aimed to provide scientific guidance to farmers for increasing cotton yield, reducing production costs, and effectively dealing with seasonal and environmental challenges.

Chiniot administration on high alert for monsoon rain drainage

CHINIOT, Jul 24 (APP):District administration of Chiniot is actively working on drainage measures during the ongoing monsoon rains on the special instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
According to DC office, Deputy Commissioner Safiullah Gondal, teams of district administration officers and waste management companies are monitoring drainage works on highways and internal streets.
The DC reviewed the emergency measures taken for the rapid drainage of rainwater and visited disposal stations to ensure their effectiveness.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the heavy rainfall.
The administration is utilizing all resources to provide relief to citizens and will continue working until the situation improves.
The district administration’s efforts aim to mitigate the impact of the monsoon rains and ensure public safety.

Ombudsman office resolves 6700 out of 9000 complaints: Sohail Rajput

KARACHI, Jul 24 (APP):Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, Mohammad Sohail Rajput on Thursday said due to lack of awareness only 9000 complaints were registered out of 55.5 million population of the province while 6700 cases have been resolved.
Addressing an awareness seminar titled  “The Role of Provincial Ombudsman Sindh in Public Grievance Redressal” Rajput said lack of awareness and trust in the institutions were main reasons of not registering complaints by the people.
The seminar was jointly organized by the Directorate of Climate and Disaster Redressal Unit, Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, and Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Sindh.
Sohail Rajput stated that efforts are being made to raise awareness through media, social media, seminars, and public hearings. “We have also set a three-month resolution time frame for complaints and ensure that complainants are not made to run from pillar to post unnecessarily, he added.”
Sohail Rajput announced that an MoU with PRCS Sindh would soon be signed.
Speaking on climate change issue, he noted that regions like KP and Punjab are currently experiencing natural disasters, while in 2020, Karachi witnessed 287 mm of rain in just six hours due to a cloudburst.
Rajput emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to address climate and disaster challenges and welcomed other institutions to join hands. Highlighting past efforts, he said that over 500 unresolved land and housing project complaints pending for five years were taken up with the Chief Minister of Sindh, who constituted a four-member cabinet committee to propose solutions within three months.
He also stated that the Ombudsman’s Office takes suo motu notice in the public interest and is working to digitize the entire complaints system this year. A bilingual (Urdu and Sindhi) website and app are also being launched soon.
Chairman PRCS Sindh, Rehan Hashmi reiterated PRCS’s readiness to serve during disasters. He praised the Ombudsman’s Office for efficiently addressing public complaints against government entities and emphasized that the joint seminar aimed to raise public awareness about how citizens can access free and prompt justice against government malpractices through proper channels.

Japanese Ambassador visits UoS to foster academic and cultural collaboration

HYDERABAD, Jul 24 (APP):In a significant gesture of academic diplomacy, the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan Akamatsu Shuichi visited the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, and the Area Study Centre for East and South-East Asia to explore avenues for enhanced educational and cultural collaboration between the two countries.
According to the SU spokesperson, the Ambassador was warmly received by SU Registrar Dr. Mushtaq Ali Jariko, Director of the Area Study Centre Dr. Mukesh Kumar Khatwani and senior faculty members. During his interaction at the Centre, the Ambassador expressed keen interest in strengthening academic and cultural exchanges between Japanese institutions and the University of Sindh Jamshoro.
“The cooperation between the Japanese Embassy and the Area Study Centre is both valuable and promising,” he noted and added that the Japanese embassy in Pakistan is committed to expanding this partnership in the future.
Following the visit to the Centre, the diplomat held a meeting with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalilur Rehman Khumbati. Highlighting the enduring friendship between Japan and Pakistan, Ambassador Shuichi said both nations enjoy strong diplomatic ties rooted in mutual respect and shared goals.
He further emphasized Japan’s willingness to promote collaborative projects across various academic disciplines in Pakistani institutions, particularly with major public-sector universities like the University of Sindh.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Khumbati welcomed the Japanese envoy and lauded his visit as a step forward in educational diplomacy. He proposed the facilitation of bilateral academic agreements between Sindh University, the second-largest University in Pakistan, and leading Universities in Japan, enabling faculty and student exchanges, joint research and cultural integration.
Dr. Khumbati also assured the Ambassador that Pakistan’s security situation was conducive for international academic activities, encouraging Japanese scholars and researchers to engage in educational visits and research collaborations within the country.

DC Kohat cracks down on illegal housing societies

KOHAT, Jul 24 (APP):A meeting of the District Scrutiny Committee on Thursday was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohat, Abdul Akram, to review the legal documents of housing societies across the district.
The meeting aimed to ensure that all housing societies comply with the necessary regulations and possess valid official documents. The committee discussed the legal and illegal/unregistered housing societies established in the district.
During the meeting, the DC emphasized that the establishment of housing societies requires the completion of all legal documents. He also warned that no No Objection Certificate (NOC) will be issued without valid official documents and strict legal action will be taken against the owners and builders of illegal housing societies.
The meeting was attended by officers from various departments, including the District Administration, Tehsil Municipal Administration, C&W Department, and other concerned departments.

Moon sighting for Safar 1447 AH: Zonal Committees to convene nationwide on July 25

ISLAMABAD, July 24 (APP):The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, under the chairmanship of Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, will hold a key meeting in Islamabad on Friday, July 25 (29th Muharram-ul-Haram) to sight the crescent of Safar-ul-Muzaffar 1447 Hijri.
According to spokesperson for the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Muhammad Umar Butt, the zonal meeting for Islamabad will take place at 6:45 PM on the rooftop of the Ministry’s Kohsar Block building.
Simultaneously, zonal and district-level moon sighting committees will convene in all provincial capitals and key locations across the country.
The nationwide coordination will help ensure accurate moon sighting reports from across Pakistan before an official announcement is made.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will evaluate testimonies and meteorological data before officially declaring the start of the Islamic month of Safar.

DIG conducts meeting for Welfare Committee for police deceased families

AJK prepares to celebrate Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with zeal and fervor

MIRPUR, Jul 24 (APP):The Mirpur Division of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is gearing up to celebrate Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day on August 14 with great enthusiasm and patriotism.
Commissioner Mirpur Division, Chaudhry Mukhtar Hussain, chaired a high-level meeting to finalize arrangements for the celebrations, emphasizing the need to pay tribute to the armed forces and highlight the significance of independence.
According to the details, various events will be organized in the division, including national flag hoisting ceremonies, Jashan Azadi boat rallies at Mangla Dam and car and motorcycle rallies in Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber.
Monsoon tree plantation ceremonies will also be held to promote environmental awareness. National flags of Pakistan and AJK will be hoisted at markets, government institutions, and public places, accompanied by colorful illuminations.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of foolproof security arrangements to maintain peace and order during the Independence Day celebrations.
The meeting decided to involve civil society, local government representatives, government officers, lawyers, traders’ associations, media representatives, teachers, and students in the planning and execution of the Independence Day celebrations. Special prayers will be held in mosques for the security, development, prosperity and strong defense of Pakistan, highlighting the significance of this historic day.

PM expresses satisfaction over improved credit rating of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Jul 24 (APP):Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Thursday expressed satisfaction over the improvement in Pakistan’s credit rating by S&P Global Ratings.
In a statement, he said rise of Pakistan’s credit rating from CCC+ to B- proved that Pakistan’s economy was moving rapidly towards stability.
The improvement in Pakistan’s credit rating will not only help in accessing the international capital market but will also reduce the pressure of paying external debts, he noted.
“Pakistan’s macroeconomic indicators are improving,” he said adding, “The improvement in credit rating will enhance the confidence of foreign investors in the Pakistani economy.”
He said international financial institutions and rating agencies were also acknowledging the successful economic policies of the government.
“The efforts of the government’s economic team are commendable”, he added.
