Free surgical eye & medical camp successfully concluded with widespread appreciation

ISLAMABAD, Jul 27 (APP):A two-day free surgical eye and medical camp organized by the National Press Club (NPC), Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi and Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) for the convenience of NPC’s members and their families concluded on Sunday with widespread appreciation and praising notes.
The camp offered free eye examinations, medicines, eyeglasses, laboratory services and laser (phaco) surgery for media workers suffering from white cataracts.
A mobile van equipped with modern medical instruments was also stationed on-site to enhance the facility’s reach.
According to the details, during the two-day eye surgical camp, a total of 1081 members and their families were provided with free eye consultation and checkups by experts.
Among them, 538 members received free spectacles and 836 were served with medicines.
 25 attendees underwent laser operations using modern machines and were fitted with lenses.
Whereas, 32 availed lab facilities and 119 were referred to the hospital.
In addition to that a medical camp for hepatitis screening was also set up along with an eye camp, where 693 males, 252 females and 136 children went through hepatitis testing.
The members and their families thanked the NPC leadership, President Azhar Jatoi, Secretary Nayyer Ali, Finance Secretary Waqar Abbasi and others especially the President of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Afzal Butt, for initiating and executing both camps.
Many attendees urged the continuation of such welfare initiatives in the future.
While addressing the occasion, President of Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rehmat Khan, highlighted the increasing number of blindness cases in the country.
He also advised precautions for eyes and use of medicine where needed, focusing on regular eye checkups to avoid any related diseases.
Dr. Haider Wajid Abbasi and Dr. Iftikhar Burney from PIMA underlined causes, symptoms, precautions and medications regarding hepatitis B and C, saying this disease is caused by a virus transmitted through the blood. This virus attacks the liver and gradually disables it.
They also revealed that over thirty to thirty-five million people in the world were affected by hepatitis. A large number of whom lost their lives. Pakistan also ranked topmost in the position of patients suffering with Hepatitis B and C.
They highlighted PIMA’s ongoing efforts in public awareness, early diagnosis, training of medical personnel and nationwide prevention programs to combat the disease effectively.
The two-day free surgical eye camp was held from July 26 to 27, while the medical camp for hepatitis screening was set up on July 27.

WASA chairman visits underground water tank

LAHORE, Jul 27 (APP):Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Chairman Chaudhry Shahbaz Ahmad on Sunday visited the underground water tank located at Johar Town, Hussain Park Tika Chowk.
During the visit, XEN Umair thoroughly briefed the chairman about the underground water tank. It was told in the briefing that the water tank had been made functional during current monsoon and 1.5 million gallons of rain water was being saved through this project.
WASA Deputy Managing Director Abdul Latif  accompanied the chairman during the visit.

Aleem directs NHA to remain vigilant amid new monsoon spell

ISLAMABAD, Jul 27 (APP):The Federal Minister for Communications, Aleem Khan has directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to remain highly active and alert in view of the expected new monsoon spell and ongoing relief efforts.
Chairman NHA has issued new instructions, directing all officers to leave their offices and remain in the field, maintaining close and constant monitoring of the situation, said a press release.
It added that all leaves for officers and staff have been officially canceled.
The Chairman instructed that all officers must have their emergency response plans ready, and in the event of any unforeseen situation, those plans should be implemented immediately without delay.
Officers have also been directed to remain in continuous coordination with the relevant district administrations and disaster management authorities. The NHA’s response in any emergency must be swift and effective.
The Chairman emphasized that any form of negligence or delay by officers will not be tolerated.
Special instructions have been issued to NHA teams deployed in northern areas to intensify relief efforts and remain active on the ground until all obstructions on the highways are completely cleared.

AJK PM receives comprehensive briefing on Jagran power project phase-2

MUZAFFARABAD, Jul 27 (APP):The Prime Minister Azad Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq received a detailed briefing  here on Sunday from PDO officials and foreign engineers regarding delays in the construction of the Jagran Hydel Power Project Phase 2.
Government ministers including Mian Abdul Waheed Advocate and Pir Mazhar Saeed Shah were also flanked during the visit.
The Prime Minister was briefed on the challenges related to project design and the timely installation of machinery. He directed authorities to ensure the provision of additional funds and special security as requested by the foreign engineers working on the project.
The Prime Minister Haq emphasized that no extra financial burden would be placed on the contractor for completing the project and in this context the contractor has to complete the project within settled contract and completing the project within the timeframe  settled during the agreement.
The PM instructed engineers to immediately procure the necessary technical equipment for panel installation and assured them of the government’s full support to make the project operational by December 2025.
He noted that the successful completion of Phase 2 of the Jagran Hydel Power Project would bring significant relief to the public.
“Improving the standard of living for ordinary citizens remains a key priority of the current government”, the PM remarked
The Prime Minister added that infrastructure development in Neelum will contribute to the overall progress of the region and boost the tourism sector.
The government, he said, was committed to utilizing all available resources to complete the project on time.
He said, the current government is taking timely and effective measures to promote equitable development and implement people-friendly initiatives.

NA Speaker urges unified action to combat Hepatitis surge

ISLAMABAD, Jul 27 (APP):National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Sunday emphasized the urgent need for coordinated strategies and unified public health initiatives to curb the growing spread of Hepatitis B and C across Pakistan.
In his message on World Hepatitis Day, he said that a joint national response is essential to address the escalating challenge and protect communities from the increasing burden of these viral infections.
Speaker said that hepatitis is a deadly but treatable disease, stressing that timely diagnosis, effective preventive measures and raising public awareness are essential to combat the disease and protect people from this potentially fatal illness.
Speaker pointed out that the primary causes behind the spread of hepatitis include lack of public awareness, unsafe medical practices and the use of unsterilized syringes.
Speaker stated that the National Assembly is advancing legislation to protect public health, enforce strict actions against quacks, and approve substantial funding for medical facilities.
These measures reflect a firm institutional resolve to uphold citizens’ health and improve access to quality care across Pakistan.
Sadiq urged parliamentarians to proactively promote awareness campaigns within their constituencies, emphasizing the need to convey the importance of preventive measures and timely screening to the public.
He stressed that grassroots engagement by elected representatives is crucial to enhancing public understanding and curbing the spread of hepatitis across Pakistan.
Speaker stated that the Government is taking tangible steps to eliminate hepatitis across Pakistan through nationwide screening, vaccination drives and provision of free treatment.
He paid tribute to the institutions, doctors, nurses and medical staff associated with the health sector, acknowledging their tireless efforts around the clock to eradicate the disease and safeguard public health.
He urged citizens to undergo timely screening, adopt preventive measures, and actively support government initiatives aimed at promoting public health.
He emphasized that the vision of a hepatitis-free Pakistan depends on collective awareness, public engagement and the implementation of effective, nationwide strategies.
National Assembly, Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, in his message, stated that hepatitis poses a grave threat not only to individual health but also to the broader trajectory of national development.
Deputy Speaker emphasized that combating hepatitis requires more than access to modern medical facilities — it demands widespread public awareness, consistent preventive practices, and strict adherence to hygiene principles.

Deputy reiterated the National Assembly’s unwavering commitment to fully support hepatitis elimination efforts at all levels.
He emphasized that institutional cooperation will remain steadfast in advancing public health initiatives, ensuring effective implementation of prevention, treatment, and awareness strategies nationwide.

PM expresses grief over martyrdom of innocent citizens in firing in Tirah Valley

ISLAMABAD, Jul 27 (APP):Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Sunday expressed grief over the martyrdom of innocent and peaceful citizens due to the firing by Khawarij in Bagh Maidan area of Tirah Valley.
He directed authorities to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured.
He strongly condemned the firing by Khawarij on peaceful citizens.
“The heinous designs of terrorists cannot shake our resolve,” he said adding, “We will eliminate terrorists and terrorism.”

RIYADH, July 27 (APP): Saudi Arabia, in a remarkable act of medical diplomacy and humanitarian outreach, has commenced a delicate and life-saving surgery to separate Syrian conjoined twins, Celine and Eleen Abdulmoneim Alshibli, at the King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital (KASCH) in Riyadh.

The procedure, launched under the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman, is being led by Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) and head of the medical team Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah on Sunday.

Saudi medical team begins complex surgery to separate syrian conjoined twins

According to the KSrelief, born as part of a set of triplets on February 28, 2024, in Beirut via cesarean section, Celine and Eleen share significant organs, including a pericardium and liver, with a possible intestinal connection. Their brother was born healthy and non-conjoined. Now aged one year and five months and weighing a combined 14 kilograms, the twin girls are refugees living in Lebanon.

Their arrival in the Kingdom on December 29, 2024, was facilitated through the coordination of the Saudi ministries of foreign affairs and defense. Following months of intensive medical evaluation, the complex procedure was deemed viable.

Dr. Al Rabeeah explained that the operation is expected to span nine hours and will be executed in six stages. The surgical team comprises 24 consultants and specialists in pediatric, plastic, and anesthetic disciplines, supported by a robust team of nursing and technical staff.

This marks the fourth time Saudi Arabia has performed a separation surgery on conjoined twins from Syria. Over the past 35 years, the Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme has assessed 150 cases from around the world, successfully separating 65 pairs of twins from 27 countries – a testament to the Kingdom’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian medicine.

“This initiative reflects the leadership’s unwavering support for global humanitarian causes and the capabilities of Saudi Arabia’s advanced medical system,” Dr. Al Rabeeah added.

Governor KP, Digital Essential Pakistan delegation discuss digital economy, trade expansion

Minister Ali Pervaiz condoles with LCCI president

LAHORE, Jul 27 (APP):Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik here Sunday visited the residence of President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Mian Abuzar Shad to express his heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of his sister.

Chinese firm shows interest in Pakistan’s ICT, energy sectors

ISLAMABAD, Jul 27 (APP):A three-member Chinese delegation led by Lu Jie, Founder and Chairman of GuoDong Group, met Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja on Sunday.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Global Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai.
The delegation showed strong interest in investing in Pakistan’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector, especially in building telecom towers, data centers, and cloud computing systems.
Lu Jie also expressed a desire to invest in Pakistan’s new energy sectors, including electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, smart city technologies, and advanced material manufacturing, according to a press release from the IT Ministry.
The Minister welcomed the proposals and invited GuoDong Group to visit Pakistan for more in-depth talks with local stakeholders.
She assured the delegation of full government support to help move these investment plans forward under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Digital Nation Pakistan vision.
