VC IUB visits Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce, Industry

BAHAWALPUR, Jul 31 (APP):Islamia University of Bahawalpur Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran with deans and senior faculty members visited the Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen academia-industry linkages, promote joint research and development initiatives, enhance students’ skill development, and foster entrepreneurship in the region.
The event was attended by President of the Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Syed Zafar Sharif, Vice President Muhammad Azam Qureshi, members of the Executive Committee, former presidents, including Chaudhry Abdul Jabbar, Sheikh Muhammad Abbas Raza, Chaudhry Tahir Jamil, Mubashir Hussain, with members and representatives from print and electronic media.
In his address to chamber members, the vice chancellor emphasized that robust collaboration between academia and industry was vital for regional development, research, innovation, and increased employment
opportunities.
He highlighted that the university’s students were actively engaged in technical training, internships, research projects, and business initiatives aligned with industrial needs.
The chamber president delivered a welcoming speech, congratulating Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran on his appointment as vice chancellor and underscoring the importance of university-industry collaboration for regional growth and employment.
He appreciated the university’s positive contributions and reiterated that joint initiatives such as working groups, training sessions, and business incubation programmes could greatly benefit both educational and industrial sectors.

Position holders honored as BISE DIKhan announces matric exam results 2025

Dera Ismail Khan , Jul 31 (APP):The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Dera Ismail Khan here on Thursday organized a prize distribution ceremony to honor the high achievers of the Secondary School Certificate (Matric) Annual Examinations 2025. City Mayor Umer Amin Khan Gandapur was the chief guest at the event, which saw the presence of Chairman Professor Dr. Ihsanullah, Secretary Dr. Qayyum Nawaz, Controller of Examinations Dr. Qaiser Anwar, District Education Officers from Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and South Waziristan, along with principals, teachers, and parents.
Speaking on the occasion, the City Mayor congratulated the students and encouraged them to continue their academic journey with dedication. He said that matriculation marks serve as the foundation of a student’s future and appreciated the provincial government’s commitment to educational development across all departments.
Chairman Dr. Ihsanullah, in his remarks, highlighted the efforts made for the timely declaration of results. He announced that the board is moving towards full digitization, with on-screen marking to be introduced from 2026. An online fee payment system will also be launched next week, enabling students to pay their dues from any location. He further revealed that 100 kanals of land have been allocated for the construction of a new board complex equipped with a sports facility, youth hostel, and other essential infrastructure for the board’s operations and future needs.
Earlier, Controller of Examinations Dr. Qaiser Anwar formally announced the results, stating that female students had secured top positions in both Science and Arts groups. Mishal Khan of Dar-e-Arqam Model School clinched the top position in the Science Group with 1171 marks, followed by Ayla Zainab of Qurtuba Public School with 1161 marks, and Rustam Wazir of Cadet College Wana with 1160 marks. In the Arts Group, Ayla Noor from Government Girls High School Ama Khel, Tank, stood first with 1084 marks, while Maryam of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Paharpur secured second position with 1083 marks. Romana Gul, also from the same school, stood third with 1045 marks.
A total of 23,845 candidates appeared in the matriculation examination this year, out of which 21,525 passed, reflecting an overall pass percentage of 90.27. In the Science Group, 17,286 students appeared and 16,154 were declared successful, while the Arts Group had 6,559 candidates, with 5,371 passing.
In Grade 9, a total of 25,701 candidates appeared for the exams, with 20,092 qualifying, marking a pass percentage of 78.18. The Science Group had 18,929 students, of which 15,502 passed, whereas the Arts Group recorded 4,590 successful candidates out of 6,772.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of awards and certificates among the top position holders amid rounds of applause and appreciation from the audience.

PM’s Youth Programme signs landmark MoU with British Esports Federation to boost gaming industry in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Jul 31 (APP):In a groundbreaking move to empower youth and revolutionize the digital gaming landscape, the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the British Esports Federation and the Commonwealth Secretariat.
The MoU was signed during an inaugural ceremony held on Thursday, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at fostering esports, digital skills, and entrepreneurship among Pakistani youth.
The agreement sets the stage for the development of Pakistan’s first National Esports Policy and the formation of a Pakistan Esports Federation, which will oversee the regulation and growth of the country’s emerging esports ecosystem. The partnership also envisions the formal recognition of esports as an official sport in Pakistan.
Under the MoU, several initiatives are set to be launched, including:
Esports training programs and academies
State-of-the-art digital gaming arenas
High-speed internet infrastructure tailored for gaming and commercialization of local game development enhanced access for Pakistani gamers to global platforms
Notable international figures present at the ceremony included Layne Robinson, Head of Social Policy from the Commonwealth, as well as Thomas Dore and Kalam Neale from the British Esports Federation.
Speaking at the event, Syeda Amnah Batool, Focal Person of PMYP, emphasized the significance of the collaboration. “This is a major step towards youth empowerment and digital progress in Pakistan,” she stated, adding that the initiative will open new avenues for innovation, creativity, and career opportunities in the rapidly growing global gaming industry.
With this MoU, Pakistan takes a significant step forward in integrating its youth into the global digital economy—offering them tools, platforms, and policies to compete and succeed on an international scale.

DG NLPD distributes certificates among Thal University students on completion of internship

ISLAMABAD, Jul 31 (APP):Director General of the National Language Promotion Department (NLPD), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Mazhar, distributed certificates among students of Thal University Bhakkar upon the completion of their internship at the department.
He also presented them with books from the department as a gift.
Two students from the BS Urdu program at Thal University Bhakkar, Faisal Shehzad and Rimsha Malik, successfully completed a six-week internship at the NLPD, according to a press release issued here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Mazhar said, “Practical training holds great significance in the lives of young students. The process of learning continues throughout life, and such training programs play a vital role in the academic and intellectual development of the youth.”
He further emphasized that the NLPD remained fully committed to the promotion of the Urdu language and literature.
Executive Director of the NLPD, Dr. Rashid Hameed, said that practical training was an effective means of nurturing a conscious, upright, and knowledge-loving young generation.
He reiterated that the NLPD would continue its efforts to provide students with high-quality training in the national language.
“Such beneficial training programs will continue to be organized in the future,” he assured.

Three people die as roof of  house caves in

PESHAWAR, Jul 31 (APP):Three people were died when roof of a room of a delipadiated  house suddenly caved on Lakki Marwat district on Thursday.
Police said the traffic incident occured at Qila Ground due to heavy rain in Lakki Marwat where three people buried under the debris and died.
 The deceased include Shaukatullah and two women of a same family. Police and rescue officials confirmed the death toll and shifted the bodies to tehsil jeadquarters hospital Naurang.

SNGPL disconnects 3 more metres, checks 60 metres

MULTAN, Jul 31 (APP):In a bid to curb gas theft and illegal activities, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) UFG  Control Task Force intensified its operation and  disconnected three more gas meters in various areas of the city.
According to details, two metres were disconnected over using compressor for getting gas illegally. One metre was removed over use for commercial purposes.
The door-to-door of 60 consumers was carried out.

Rawal Dam spillways closed after controlled water release

ISLAMABAD, Jul 31 (APP):Authorities closed the spillways of Rawal Dam on Thursday after a brief water release operation triggered by a rise in water levels due to rainfall in Islamabad and nearby areas.
According to the spokesman of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration, water levels in Rawal Dam increased following rainfall in the federal capital and surrounding areas, prompting officials to open the spillways at 6 a.m. when the dam’s level reached 1,750 feet.
The controlled release of water from the dam continued for six hours. Once the level dropped to 1,749 feet, the spillways were shut down to prevent further outflow, he added.
Before the spillways were opened, relevant departments, including Rescue 1122, were stationed at bridges, streams, and low-lying areas to ensure safety and monitor any potential risks from the discharge.
Assistant Commissioner Nilore supervised the entire operation, including water flow and public safety arrangements.
The move is part of standard procedures followed during monsoon rains to manage dam capacity and reduce the chance of overflow.

Daniyal Ijaz wins 17th Islamabad Open Bowling Championship

ISLAMABAD, Jul 31 (APP):Daniyal Ijaz clinched the title of the 17th Islamabad Open Bowling Championship, outplaying his competitors with an impressive score of 268 points.
Faheem Khan secured second place with 187 points in the event held in the federal capital.
The championship, organized by the Islamabad Tenpin Bowling Association (ITBA) in collaboration with the Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation (PTBF), attracted participation from top bowlers across Islamabad.
President of the PTBF, Ijaz-ur-Rehman, distributed trophies among the winners during the prize-giving ceremony. Also present at the occasion were former PTBF Secretary General Muhammad Hussain Chattha and ITBA President Rana Afzal Akhtar.
In their congratulatory remarks, Ijaz-ur-Rehman, Chattha and Akhtar lauded Daniyal Ijaz for his dominant performance and extended best wishes to Faheem Khan for securing the runner-up position.

AJK PM pays tributes to Sardar Ibrahim Khan on his 22nd death anniversary

MIRPUR (AJK), Jul 31 (APP): Paying glorious tributes to the founder President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan on his 22nd death anniversary observed on Thursday, the AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq has said the great departed leader’s peerless contribution and selfless service to the people of Kashmir would always be remembered.

He said in a statement that Ghazi e Millat played a key role in the freedom movement that culminated in the shape of the liberated territory of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The AJK PM said that getting freed the motherland from the clutches of the despotic Dogra Maharaja and making it part of the state of Pakistan in line with the will and wishes of the Kashmiri Muslims was the life long mission of Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan’s. “Despite the passage of several decades, the people of Kashmir are steadfastly pursuing the mission envisioned by the Ghazi e Milat”, he added.

Reaffirming his commitment to uphold the mission of Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, the PM said that Kashmiri people would continue their struggle until the dream of freedom of Kashmir is materialised and the mission of completing Pakistan was fulfilled.

Highlighting Ghazi Millat’s life-long struggle, he said that Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan served the people of Kashmir in various capacities, with integrity and honesty.

Recalling the historic moment there was no place for the Kashmiri political leadership to meet, the PM said that Ghazi e Milat offered his residence at Abiguzar in Srinagar and hosted the crucial meeting where a historic resolution known as Accession to Pakistan was unanimously passed nearly a month before the creation of Pakistan.

He said that it was during this historic meeting that the Kashmiri representatives decided to align the political future of Kashmir with the yet-to-be born state of Pakistan.

The prime minister said that Ghazi Millat Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan was amongst the towering leaders of Kashmir who played a significant role during the freedom movement and after the establishment of a revolutionary government in Azad Kashmir.

Referring to the Kashmiris’ commitment to the noble cause, the PM said, “Today, the people of the Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir have been scripting a new history of resistance by defying the Indian occupation forces to achieve the very goal, set by our forefathers decades ago”.

DC directs daily District Emergency Control Committee meetings to prevent dengue

RAWALPINDI, Jul 31 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema, has directed daily meetings of the District Emergency and Control Committee at night to monitor sweeping, surveillance, fogging, and other preventive activities.
 He also directed to ensure regular sweeping in all union councils of the district, and no negligence will be tolerated in anti-dengue measures. He expressed these views while chairing a routine review meeting on dengue control.
The Deputy Commissioner voiced displeasure over poor sanitation arrangements in some areas and instructed the issuance of show-cause notices to the concerned Deputy District Health Officers (DDHOs).
During the meeting, Dr. Sajjad Ahmad, Coordinator of the District Emergency and Control Committee, briefed meeting participants on the ongoing anti-dengue measures across the district. The Deputy Commissioner reviewed all activities in detail and issued immediate orders to address any identified shortcomings or lapses.
The deputy commissioner further directed all relevant Assistant Commissioners to immediately seal the offices of officials found negligent in their duties or violating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
