ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP): Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Friday released 351,500 cusecs water from various rim stations with inflow of 368,400 cusecs.
According to the data released by IRSA, the water level in River Indus at Tarbela Dam was 1546.00 feet which was 144.00 feet higher than the dead level of 1402.00 feet. Water inflow and outflow in the dam was recorded as 240,300 cusecs and 239,900 cusecs, respectively.
The water level in River Jhelum at Mangla Dam was 1204.90 feet, which was 154.90 feet higher than its dead level of 1,050 feet. The inflow and outflow of water was recorded 24,500 cusecs and 8,000 cusecs, respectively.
The release of water at Kalabagh, Taunsa, Guddu and Sukkur was recorded as 226,100, 172,900, 174,900 and 126,400 cusecs, respectively. Similarly, from River Kabul, a total of 31,000 cusecs of water released at Nowshera and 42,500 cusecs released from River Chenab at Marala.
Heavy rain emergency warning issued for southwestern Japanese city
TOKYO, Aug. 8 (Xinhua/APP): Japan’s weather agency issued a heavy rain emergency warning on Friday morning for the city of Kirishima in the southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima, calling for the highest level of caution against landslides and flooding in low-lying areas and overflowing rivers.
The highest-level warning on the country’s five-tier disaster alert system, the first of the year, came after Kirishima logged record rainfall, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
A part of Kirishima registered 107.5 mm of rain in the hour to 3 a.m. local time on Friday, the heaviest on record at the location. The 12-hour total reached over 480 mm, about 1.8 times the city’s August average.
Torrential rain is expected to continue in the Kyushu region, including Kagoshima, through Sunday, the JMA said.
The amount of rain in the 24 hours to Saturday morning is expected to be 200 mm in southern Kyushu, and 120 mm in northern Kyushu, it added.
Weather officials warned people to remain on alert as dangerous conditions may already exist in affected areas.

Role of digital technologies highlighted in expanding opportunities for landlocked countries
TASHKENT, Aug 08 (UzA/APP) : Due to its geographical location, Uzbekistan is one of only two countries in the world, alongside Liechtenstein, that is not only landlocked but also surrounded by other landlocked states.
This unique circumstance significantly increases the importance of digital technologies as a tool for overcoming transport isolation.
The International Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries is held once every ten years under the auspices of the United Nations to develop global strategies aimed at supporting these nations.
The first conference took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in 2003, resulting in the initiation of the Almaty Program of Action. In 2014, the Vienna Program of Action for 2014-2024 was adopted during the second conference held in Vienna, Austria.
More than 3,000 delegates from 32 countries took part in the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries. The First Deputy Minister of Digital Technologies O. Umarov also attended the event.
The participants addressed opportunities for eliminating digital barriers, accelerating cross-border trade, and building inclusive digital ecosystems that enable equal participation of landlocked developing countries in the global digital economy. Particular attention was given to the development of digital infrastructure, the integration of digital markets, and the strengthening of institutional capacity in landlocked developing countries.
In reviewing Uzbekistan’s achievements in digital development, it is noteworthy that annual investment in telecommunications exceeds $1 billion. In international rankings, the country has risen to 76th place for fixed-line internet and 71st place for mobile internet. The e-government system offers more than 770 services, used daily by over 12 million people. In the Global E-Government Development Index, Uzbekistan currently holds 63rd place.
According to the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan, more than 190,000 specialists are currently employed in the country’s IT sector. The number of IT Park residents has exceeded 2,900, and by the end of 2025, the value of the services they provide is expected to reach $1 billion. More than 600 startups are actively developing. Uzbekistan has also risen to 70th place in the AI Preparedness Index.
The conference served as a key platform for constructive dialogue between government agencies and the business community on issues of sustainable development and the digital transformation of national economies.
President, PM pay tribute to Major Tufail Muhammad on his 67th martyrdom anniversary
ISLAMABAD, Aug 8 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday paid rich tribute to Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed (Nishan-i-Haider) on his 67th martyrdom anniversary, lauding his bravery and sacrifice to safeguard the motherland.
The president and prime minister, in their separately issued statements, said that the entire nation saluted its heroes whose sacrifices guaranteed the national safety and security.
“67 years ago today, Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed (Nishan-i-Haider) sacrificed his life for the motherland while bravely fighting the enemy. The entire nation salutes his sacrifice and bravery which is a role model for the nation,” President Zardari remarked.
He said that Pakistan was safe today due to the sacrifices of these great sons and the nation paid tribute to its great heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country’s security.
“The nation will always remember the sacrifices of its martyrs. Pakistan is proud of its brave armed forces, which courageously confront the enemy on every front,” he added.
Prime Minister Shehbaz, also paying tribute to Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed, said that the entire nation saluted his sacrifice and bravery.

Uzbekistan, Indonesia expand cooperation in civil aviation
TASHKENT, Aug 08 (UzA/APP) : According to the Ministry of Transport, the aviation authorities of Uzbekistan and Indonesia have signed a new agreement to expand cooperation in civil aviation and pilgrimage tourism.
The document was adopted as part of the implementation of Goal 53 of the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy, which envisages quadrupling the volume of air transportation by 2030.
At the meeting in Jakarta, members of the delegation from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport presented their partners with information on ongoing work in civil aviation and pilgrimage tourism. The prospects for developing the “Umrah Plus” program were also discussed.
As a result of the negotiations, an agreement was reached to lift restrictions on the number of airlines and destinations under the bilateral air services agreement.
In addition, new routes were designated for Uzbekistan carriers, including Denpasar, Surabaya, Medan, Yogyakarta, Majalengka, Banda Aceh, Tanjung Pandan, and Lombok.
Under the terms of the agreement, the permitted flight frequency for airlines of each side was increased to 28. Indonesian airlines were granted the right to use all international airports in Uzbekistan.

Kazakhstan, Switzerland keen to develop joint projects in green energy
ASTANA, Aug 08 (Kazinform/APP) : Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arman Issetov held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Kazakhstan, Salman Bal, Kazinform News Agency learnt from the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.
Deputy Minister emphasized that Switzerland holds an important place among Kazakhstan’s European partners and traditionally ranks among the largest investors in the country’s economy.
He underlined the significance of a sustainable business dialogue, including through the Kazakhstan-Switzerland Intergovernmental Commission, and expressed interest in enhancing joint projects in the fields of environmental protection, green energy, and medical technologies.
Both sides praised the current level of cooperation and expressed mutual interest in further deepening the political dialogue both bilaterally and within international organizations.
