ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP): Foreign Office Spokesperson, Ambassador, Shafqat Ali Khan on Friday said Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, promoting regional peace, and standing in solidarity with the Palestinian and Kashmiri people.
The foreign office spokesperson addressed the weekly press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here.
Welcoming President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian’s state visit to Pakistan on August 2–3, Ambassador Khan noted that the visit came at a pivotal time for the region. The Iranian President was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and senior ministers, he added.
During the visit, he said President Pezeshkian held meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
President Zardari, in his meeting, underscored the fraternal ties between the two nations grounded in shared religion, culture, and mutual respect. He strongly condemned the “unprovoked Israeli aggression” against Iran and lauded the Iranian nation’s unity and bravery during the recent 12-day war. He expressed hope that the visit would further cement bilateral ties, Ambassador Khan said.
President Pezeshkian, in turn, thanked Pakistan for its consistent support during the war, praising its diplomatic advocacy for de-escalation and peaceful conflict resolution, he added.
In talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Ambassador Khan said both leaders emphasized solidarity and discussed expanding the bilateral trade volume from the current $3 billion to $10 billion. Key initiatives included enhancing barter trade, increasing export quotas for rice, fruits, and meat, and operationalizing border markets, he mentioned.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar also called on President Pezeshkian and separately met with his Iranian counterpart Seyyed Abbas Araghchi to hold preliminary discussions on bilateral and regional issues, he said.
Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan highlighted Pakistan’s continued humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza. On August 3, Senator Ishaq Dar oversaw the dispatch of Pakistan’s 17th aid consignment to Gaza, 100 tons of food, powdered milk, and medical equipment.
A day later, Senator Dar officiated the send-off ceremony for the 18th humanitarian aid consignment, consisting of dry rations, meals, and medicines. This brings Pakistan’s total humanitarian assistance to Gaza to 18 shipments totaling 1,815 tons, reaffirming Islamabad’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.
On that occasion, he said Senator Dar reiterated Pakistan’s call for an immediate ceasefire, protection of civilians, and a political solution based on the pre-1967 borders in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
Ambassador Khan categorically rejected what he called “baseless and unfounded allegations” regarding the involvement of Pakistani nationals in the Ukraine conflict. “No verifiable evidence has been presented, nor has Pakistan been formally approached by Ukrainian authorities,” he said, adding that the matter would be taken up with Kyiv to seek clarification.
The spokesperson condemned in the strongest terms the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by thousands of Israeli settlers, including senior officials and Knesset members. “These provocations, accompanied by offensive declarations, are deliberate attempts to inflame religious sentiments and destabilize the region,” he warned, urging the UN and international community to act urgently to safeguard the sanctity of Al-Aqsa and uphold Palestinian rights.
Addressing the sixth anniversary of India’s unilateral and illegal actions of August 5, 2019, in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), Ambassador Khan said Pakistan observed Yaum-e-Istehsal with solemn resolve. Special messages were issued by the President, Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister, reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering political, diplomatic, and moral support for the Kashmir cause, he added.
Senator Ishaq Dar, he said also wrote to the UN Secretary-General, President of the UN General Assembly, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and OIC Secretary-General to highlight the deteriorating human rights situation in IIOJK and press for implementation of UN Security Council resolutions.
A solidarity walk led by Senator Dar and joined by Foreign Office staff, civil society, and citizens was held in Islamabad to mark the occasion, he added.
Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan concluded the briefing by reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering stance on key foreign policy issues and its commitment to promoting regional peace, justice, and solidarity with oppressed peoples worldwide.

Sulaman brothers scale Mushkpuri Peak

0
ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP):The brothers duo of Khuzaimah Sulaman and Ibrahim Sulaman, has successfully summited the Mushkpuri Peak (9,200 feet above sea level) this summer, with a message for all, ‘Protect the Environment’.
Four-year-old Khuzaimah Sulaman and his eight-year-old brother Ibrahim Sulaman from Islamabad, embarked on the scenic yet challenging trail through the pine-covered slopes of Galliyat organized by Roam On Club, said a press release.
While the hike itself was impressive for someone so young, what truly captured attention was their quiet campaign for cleaner mountains.
Both Khuzaimah and Ibrahim practiced and promoted environmental stewardship throughout the trek. When they noticed a fellow hiker discarding a bottle cap into the bushes, Khuzaimah gently intervened, saying, “The birds can eat it. And the forest gets sick.” The hiker, moved by the child’s sincerity, picked up the cap.
The brothers demonstrated not only physical endurance but a sense of responsibility far beyond their years. Ibrahim, the elder sibling, played a guiding role, reminding his younger brother to leave no waste behind – a family value instilled in both the boys during their earlier trips.
At the summit, as mist clung to the meadows and clouds kissed the ridgelines, Khuzaimah picked up a stray wrapper, placed it in his pouch, and said quietly, “Mountains are our friends. We should keep them clean.”
Their hike serves as a powerful reminder that age is no barrier to making a difference. With simple acts of care and courage, even the smallest hikers can inspire big change.

Speaking at a ceremony at Islamabad International Airport, Tarar said the two consignments — each weighing 100 tons — contained dry rations, essential food items, and life-saving medicines.

He stressed that the aid was being sent at a time when the blockade had prevented many international agencies from delivering much-needed relief to Gaza.

Tarar highlighted that Pakistan has so far dispatched 1,800 tons of humanitarian assistance to Gaza since the escalation of hostilities.

He commended the Al-Khidmat Foundation and Jamaat-e-Islami leadership for their contributions and for consistently raising the plight of Palestinians on various platforms.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to stand “shoulder to shoulder” with the people of Palestine, Tarar said the National Disaster Management Authority acted on the prime minister’s directive to ensure the urgent delivery of aid.

Pakistan, Qatar step up cooperation on climate action, green investment

ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP): Pakistan and Qatar have agreed to broaden their partnership to include joint efforts on tackling plastic pollution, promoting environmental sustainability, and boosting green investments, following a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Friday.

Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik met with Qatar’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Ali Mubarak Ali Essa Al-Khater, to discuss new avenues for collaboration ahead of key global climate talks in Geneva next week.

The talks will focus on an international legally binding treaty to curb plastic pollution.

Dr. Malik stressed that any global environmental agreement must address the “access, affordability, and sustainability” concerns of developing countries.

“Positions on international treaties must take into account the socio-economic realities and needs of the people,” he said, adding that governments have a duty to protect citizens’ rights, livelihoods, and well-being.

The minister also unveiled details of Pakistan’s upcoming Green Startups Initiative, designed to support young entrepreneurs in launching eco-friendly businesses, link them with international investors, and create green jobs.

The program, aligned with the Prime Minister’s sustainable development vision, is expected to be introduced to the global stage through partnerships with foreign governments and organizations.

The Qatari ambassador praised Pakistan’s security support during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, describing the country as having a “special place in the hearts of the Qatari people.”

He expressed strong interest in expanding cooperation not only in climate action but also in trade and investment.

Officials from Pakistan’s climate ministry and the foreign office also attended the meeting, which concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties in environmental sustainability, economic development, and people-to-people exchanges.

Erstwhile Fata lights up with patriotic zeal for Jashn-e-Azadi celebrations

0

PESHAWAR, Aug 08 (APP): As Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day approaches, a wave of green and white is sweeping across the tribal districts of erstwhile FATA brimming with patriotic fervor, emotional pride, and historical remembrance.

In areas like Waziristan, Orakzai, Kurram, Khyber, Mohmand and Bajaur, national flags flutter proudly atop homes, markets, private and official buildings ahead of independence day celebrations.

The bazaars and streets are alive with green and white colour and joy, but even more so with a sense of belonging of being part of a great story that began with struggle and sacrifice during the Pakistan movement, and continues with hope and resilience.

“I have purchased 500 green badges and stickers for my family and relatives as part of Jashine Azadi celebrations. It’s our way of showing immeasurable love for Pakistan,” said Asghar Afridi, a local journalist from Bara, Khyber tribal district while talking to APP on Friday.

With his young son helping decorate the family car at the bustling Qissa Khwani Bazaar, Afridi’s joy was unmistakable and full of national enthusiasm. “This is our family rich tradition we have followed since creation of Pakistan and now I am passing it on to the next generation with immense pride,” reiterates Asghar Afridi.

From Landi Kotal to Torkham and Jamrud to Shalman valley, all bazaars, markets and streets in Khyber district are adorned with colourful bunting and lights. Irrespective of caste and colours, tribal youth, children, and elders alike can be seen donning green-and-white outfits, echoing a common sentiment such as this is our celebration and our tribute to the great nation and Quaid e Azam that gave us an identity and freedom on August 14, 1947.

“Pakistan was not gifted to us rather it was earned through blood and sacrifices,” said Shah Jee Gul Afridi, former MNA and a respected elder of the Afridi tribe while talking to APP. “We are honoring those sacrifices by celebrating Jashn-e-Azadi with full zeal and patriotism.”

The connection of the tribal people with the creation of Pakistan is not just emotional but historical. In 1948, just months after the country’s independence, Founder of the Nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah visited Peshawar where he addressed a grand tribal jirga at the Governor House here. There, in the heart of KP, he acknowledged the loyalty and sacrifices of the tribesmen calling them a “frontline force” of the Pakistan Movement.

“The great Quaid had deep respect for the tribes’ patriotism and their love for Islam and Pakistan,” said Professor Dr. A.H. Hilali, former Chairman of the Political Science Department at the University of Peshawar. “He emphasized education and development as keys to their future and today, those words still resonate.”

Quaid’s love for education led him to promise a university for the region, a vision fulfilled with the establishment of the University of Peshawar near the historic Islamia College — another site he visited three times and highly praised its students’ role during the Pakistan Movement.”

The scenes playing out in these tribal regions today reflect a deeper narrative not just of celebration, but for peace and development. “We see lights, we see national flags, but we also see a determination among our youth to build a better and prosperous future for their country,” said Asghar Afridi. “My son is already asking questions about the Pakistan Movement, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Dr Alama Iqbal, Quaid-e-Azam and what independence means. That’s where the real celebration begins, creating awareness and education of young minds about Pakistan.”

In an area long known more for security and economic challenges than festivity, this great transformation speaks volumes of tribesmen’s love for their country. Where once silence loomed, now laughter, joy and music echo through narrow alleys and open bazaars.

The tribal belt, once on the margins of national attention, is today stepping forward, waving the national flag not just as a symbol of statehood, but as a badge of honour and prestige. As the clock ticks closer to August 14, the message from people of erstwhile FATA is clear that “We are Pakistan, and Pakistan is us.”
