WB says Pakistan’s remittances grew by 26% in 2021

ISLAMABAD, Apr 11 (APP): Pakistan’s economic growth is
projected to accelerate from 4.5 percent in 2016 to 4.8 percent in 2017, supported by growing industry and services and greater investment as well as buoyed by low oil prices and substantial remittances, World Bank report said.

According to the report “South Asia Economic Focus”, sustained and inclusive growth with further acceleration would require tackling pervasive power cuts, a cumbersome business environment, and low access to finance through the successful implementation of tax and energy reforms.

The report said that the South Asian region’s economic
performance prospects remained strong due to limited exposure to global turbulence, coupled with increasing investment activity.

Govt agrees to withdraw cases against PIA employees: Dar

ISLAMABAD, April 11 (APP): Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday assured the joint sitting of the parliament that all show cause notices issued to the PIA employees would be withdrawn in 24 hours.

He said that amendments to Pakistan International Airlines Corporation into a public limited company were made with consensus and would be moved jointly for approval.

Ishaq Dar said that all cases against PIA employees at administrative stage would be withdrawn.

Razzaq to assist SL blind cricket team

ISLAMABAD, Apr 11 (APP): Former Pakistan Blind Cricket team captain Abdul Razzaq will assist the visually-impaired players of Sri Lanka for the T20 World Cup of the Blind scheduled to be held in India in November.

Talking to APP, Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) Chairman, Syed Sultan Shah said the Sri Lanka team which recently played and lost a Twenty20 and ODI series against Pakistan had asked them to provide the services of a Pakistani coach.

PBCC, he said, will select a new-look team for the T20 World Cup. Sri Lankan team manager Narbat Silva said the Sri Lankan blind cricketers had learnt learnt a lot on their tour of Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 11 (APP): The 33rd death anniversary of renowned play back singer of past Ahmed Rushdi was observed on Monday.

Ahmed Rushdi recorded the highest number of film songs in the history of Pakistani cinema in Urdu, English, Punjabi, Bengali, Sindhi and Gujarati languages and found unprecedented success as a playback artist from the mid 1950s to early 1980s.

He recorded approximately 5000 songs for 583 released films.

Indian High Commissioner Gautam Bambawale, Ambassador of Ukraine Volodymyr Lakomov and Acting Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan, Mehvish Sultana, member of Punjab Assembly, Chairman Archeological and Historical Association of Pakistan Dr. Ghazanfar Mehdi, Vice Chairman Archeological and Historical Association Prof. Dr. Akbar S. Ahmad (U.S.A), a number of diplomates, families, writers and people from different walks of life from Islamabad were part of the Cultural Caravan.

Upon reaching Takht-e-Babar, Kallar Kahar, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Mehmood Javed Bhatti and DPO Chakwal Munir Masood welcomed the guests.

Ayaz assures to resolve equal media coverage issue in NA

ISLAMABAD, April 11 (APP): Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq Monday assured the House that issue of equal media converges of opposition and treasury benches
would be resolved with consensus.

Chairing the proceeding of the joint sitting of the parliament, he said that the media coverage issue would be solved through mutual consultation in the Speaker’s Chamber.

Earlier, MNA Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that he had already submitted an adjournment motion on the issue of not giving media coverage to opposition members during the last session.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 11 (APP): As many as Rs.150.248 million have been released by the government for various development projects of Commerce Division under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2015-16.

Over all, Rs.875.622 million have been earmarked for the Commerce Division’s development projects during the current fiscal year out of their total estimated cost of Rs.3764.183 million.

According to break figures of the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform, the government released Rs.140.514 billion for purchase of equipment, furnishing, curriculum development and training of Pakistan School of Fashion Design Lahore.

ISTANBUL Apr 11 (APP): Preparatory meeting of the delegates from the member states of Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) started here on Monday to finalize the papers and agenda for the 13th Summit of the Organization.

The senior officials who met at different meetings discussed the agenda for the summit and the working program also considering the outcome of the documents of the summit for submitting to ministerial meeting.

They are also discussing the draft agenda and draft working paper for the council of foreign ministers meeting as well as election of the members of Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC).

ISLAMABAD, April 11 (APP): Felicitating the nation on the Constitution Day, the Joint Sitting of Parliament on Monday reiterated its commitment to respect, defend and protect the Constitution.

The Joint Sitting adopted a resolution unanimously moved by leader of the House in Senate Raja Zafarul Haq on behalf of all parliamentarians.

The resolution says, “the Joint Sitting of Parliament, having regard to the fact that the constitution of a country epitomizes hopes and aspiration of the nation and serves as
a social contract between the citizens and the state; Having regard to the fact that the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973, holds the prestige of being passed as a
result of a historical consensus between the political parties and Federating units of Pakistan; withstood the test of time, standing out as a testament of political maturity, sagacity and unanimity of our political and parliamentary leadership on issues of national importance, needs and significance.”
