President of Mauritius visits Mausoleum of Quaid e Azam

KARACHI, April 19 (APP): President of Mauritius, Dr Bibi Ameenah Firdous Gurib- Fakim paid a visit to Mausoleum of Quaid e Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, here on Tuesday.

She offered Fateha and marked her impressions in the visitors book.

She paid homage to the Father of Nation and appreciated his services. On the occasion, the President of Mauritius was accompanied by Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister, Sharmila Farooqui.

Pervaiz, Saad brief JUP leaders about govt stance on Panama leaks

ISLAMABAD, April 19 (APP): Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid and Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique Tuesday briefed Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan leaders Awais Ahemd Noorani and Pir Ijaz Ahmed Hashmi about the government’s stance on the Panama leaks.

During a meeting held here at the residence of Khawaja Saad  Rafique, the JUP leaders appreciated the Prime Minister and his  family for presenting themselves for accountability, saying this was an important step towards strengthening democracy in the country.

 

 

Pakistan, Mauritius to upgrade PTA to FTA

ISLAMABAD, April 19 (APP): Pakistan and Mauritius while noting the importance of economy and trade in boosting bilateral ties agreed to upgrade the existing Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) to a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) at an early date.

A statement from the Foreign Office Tuesday said the decision came at the delegation level meeting between the two sides during the four-day visit of President of Mauritius Ms. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim to Pakistan.

The two countries inked the PTA on July 30, 2007. Pakistan was the first country to have inked the PTA with Mauritius as it has a huge potential for Pakistani products and serves as gateway for the entire African region.

PM leaves for home; Commission on Panama Leaks to be formed

LONDON, April 19 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Tuesday said a commission on Panama Leaks would be set up to investigate the matter.

Concluding his week-long stay in London for medical check-up, he was talking to media persons prior to leaving for home. The Prime Minister said he was in favour of setting up such commission and mentioned that efforts had already been made in this regard that included contacting judges to head this commission.

Prime Minsiter Nawaz Sharif said during his stay in London, he had undergone some medical tests that came out with satisfactory results.

Australian Envoy calls on Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD, Apr 19 (APP): Margaret Adamson, the High Commissioner of Australia called on the Federal Minister for Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar here Tuesday and discussed matters of mutual interest.

The Minister said that Pakistan highly valued its relationship with Australia.

The Minister shared with the Australian High Commissioner the achievements and progress attained in the different economic sectors during the current tenure of the government.

MARDAN, April 19 (APP): A suicide bomber ripped through a gathering of people in Excise and Taxation Office here on Tuesday, killing one person and injuring 18 others, police said.

Faisal Shahzad, District Police Officer Mardan told reporters at the site of the blast that the bomber first fired shots at the main gate of Excise Office at Ganj bazaar before detonating explosive vest wrapped around his body at about 12 pm today.

The Mardan Police Chief said eight to 10 kilograms explosives were used in the attack.

FBR initiates extensive consultation to seek proposals for Budget 2016-17

ISLAMABAD, Apr 19 (APP): The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has initiated extensive consultations with the representatives of various sectors of economy, with a view to develop proposals for Finance Bill 2016-17.

This was informed by Chairman FBR, Nisar Muhammad Khan to Minister for Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar here on Tuesday who chaired a meeting to review the progress with regard to revenue side of Budget 2016-17.

So far FBR has completed consultation with 24 organizations including Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Securities Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Auto industry, marble industry, and discussed their proposals for the upcoming budget, the Chairman FBR added.

ISLAMABAD, April 19 (APP): Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has decreased the hardship cases quota from five to three percent in Hajj Policy 2016 aiming to accommodate maximum pilgrims in the balloting.

According to an official of the ministry, 143,368 people will perform Hajj this year including 86,021 under Government Scheme and 57,347 under private scheme.

A total of 2,581 intending pilgrims would be adjusted under the hardship quota cases this year. While 83,440 will be chosen through a transparent balloting on April 29.

Panama tenders apology over its Minister's statement

ISLAMABAD, Apr 19 (APP): The Government of Panama has clarified a statement given by its Deputy Ministry of Economy Ivan Zarak mistakenly referring to Finance Minister Ishaq Dar during an interview with the CNN International this week.

“In his declarations, Deputy Minister Zarak by mistake mentioned he had a conversation with the Minister for Finance of Pakistan during the Global Connect Initiative meeting at Washington D.C. when instead it was with the Federal Finance Secretary Dr Waqar Masood Khan, who represented Pakistani Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar at this conference,” it said.

Panama apologized for the misunderstanding, said a facsimile of a message of Ambassador of Panama in Mexico conveying statement from Panama Government and received here Tuesday from the Pakistan Embassy in Mexico.
