Players selected on merit: Inzamam

Asif, Butt should also get a chance: Inzamam

LAHORE, May 25 (APP): Chairman, National cricket committee, Inzamam ul Haq said on Wednesday that the players of Pakistan senior team skill camp and Pakistan A team were selected purely on merit.

“The players named for both (skill camp and Pakistan A team) are the unanimous choice of the selectors and performance was the only criteria to consider them and selectors did a job done on justice”, he told media at a news conference here on Wednesday at Gadaffi stadium.

He said the selectors did a lot of hard work to finalise players for the skill camp and it was quite unfortunate that that they could not come across a talented all rounder who could impress them with his skills and technique.

“Besides, there was not a suitable off spinner who could have been selected and our leg spinner Yasir Shah is facing fitness problems and he is likely to be fit in ten days time”, he asserted.

The former Pakistan captain said batsman Muhammad Hafeez name has been included in the camp and the final decision regarding his selection will be taken after going through his fitness reports.

Regarding overlooking batsmen Ahmad Shahzad and Umar Akmal from the skill camp, the chief selector was of the view that both the batsmen need to bring improvement in their play, performance and attitude.

“We are observing them (Ahmad and Umar) very closely and certainly they can make a come back in the team provided they show visible improvement in their performance and attitude and they are capable of doing so”,he added.

“We have some other rising players in our mind who will be given chance in coming team selections for other assignments and most importantly we have also consider the recommendations of the team captain and coach while selecting players for respective sides”,he asserted.

“Certainly we will be giving a chance to the most outstanding
players of the Pak A team to become a part of national senior team during the tour of England”,he maintained.

Inzamam said the fitness camp which is in progress at Abbottabad under the watchful eyes of Pak army’s physical training instructors will help in improving the overall fitness standards of the players.

He expressed his gratitude to all the instructors who are working on the players.

The chief selector termed the Pak senior teams tour to England ‘tough’ and a test of skills and technique of the players – who will be under pressure to perform to a high level. “I think this tour will help the young player to learn more and to add to their experience”.

Inzamam said in his personal opinion education has no significant link with the cricket and other sports as there are number of players who were less educated but they excelled in cricket and their respective sports and brought laurels for the country.

To a question, he said Pak A team has the representation of Under 19 player who impressed with their extra ordinary performance and similarly Asif Zakir and Akbar ur Reman are the two new faces included in Pakistan senior team for the tour of England.

“After arrival of Pakistan team south African coach Miceky Arthur in Pakistan we will consult him before naming the Pakistan test team for the tour of England”,he told a questioner.

Nisar gives 48-hour deadline to NADRA for preparing roadmap to launch CNICs re-verification

0

ISLAMABAD, May 25 (APP): Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, taking swift action against use of Pakistani CNICs by aliens, on Wednesday gave 48-hour deadline to National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) for preparing a road-map to launch a National Plan for Re-verification of Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) of over 180 million population.

The minister issued the re-verification roadmap order after
questions were raised over a Pakistani passport and CNIC found from the drone hit car wreckage site in Balochistan, which were claimed to held by Mulla Mansoor, Taliban leader.

He was chairing a meeting here at NADRA Headquarters
which was also attended by Chairman NADRA, Director General Passport and Immigration and officials of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

“NADRA has 48 hours for submitting a work plan with a set
deadline for initiation of National Plan for Re-verification
of CNICs across Pakistan,” said the minister.

A spokesman while quoting the minister said, “After emergence of CNIC the message has gone to world that Pakistan’s CNIC can be used by anyone. This is against our strategic, security and national interests.”

“Let’s not send a message to the world that Pakistani ID (identity card) is easily available to anyone who is willing to pay for it. Being a responsible state we will ensure that usage of CNIC by any alien is completely eliminated after this exercise,” he remarked.

He said,”This measure would help us to ensure that in future
no alien will be able to use Pakistani CNIC and passport, besides removal of those aliens currently holding Pakistani CNIC.”

Nisar directed once the road-map was approved for the required national exercise of re-verification of CNICs by NADRA, it must be ensured that general public remained at ease and re-verification of CNICs must be done in a most cordial and friendly way.

The minister further directed to speed up the process of
blocking of Pakistani CNICs held by aliens, saying “National
security agencies will also assist NADRA in future for ensuring
blocking of CNICs and their verification.”

He instructed top level hierarchy of NADRA to address
the issue of blockage of CNICs of Pakistani nationals.
“I have received complaints that the CNICs were blocked by NADRA of Pakistanis who were citizens of the state, this must be addressed on emergent basis,” he added.

Nisar said NADRA officers and its senior level hierarchy
must live up to emoluments and perks provided to them since this money was coming from the taxes of public. “Inefficient and under-performing director generals be removed from service of NADRA,” he ordered.

He directed the NADRA Chairman to take immediate steps to purge the Authority of corrupt elements on a fast track basis and said there should be a zero tolerance for corruption at all levels.

A comprehensive way forward should be put up to him in
next meeting within next few days, he said.

Power generation capacity to rise up to 25,000 Megawatt by year end: Abid Sher

LAHORE, May 25 (APP): Minister of State for Water and Power, Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali said on Wednesday that there would be no electricity load-shedding during Sahr and Iftaar in Ramzan, while load management of six hours in urban centre and eight hours in rural areas would be observed strictly.

In a media briefing here at LESCO Head office, the minister said that during upcoming Ramzan-ul-Mubarik, industrial sector’s load-shedding would remain between eight to ten hours.

Last year, the total daily power generation recorded at 16,900 MW in the country, which would be increased up to 18000 mega watts, he said, adding that the government would manage to control load-shedding up to 50 percent, while another 8000 to 10000 MW of electricity quantum would be added into the system, which would help end load-shedding completely.

To a question, the Minister of State said that DISCOs (power
distribution companies) had been directed to disconnect the power supply of consumers defaulting in payment of dues for more than 45 days without taking any sort of pressure from any side.

He mentioned that recently, on the basis of non-payment of dues, the power supply had been disconnected to an MNA, Wing Commander, Commissioner (Revenue), lawyers of various courts including Supreme, High and district and sessions courts.

To another question, he said that there had been over-billing of Rs 3.25 billion for which an inquiry had been ordered to fix the responsibility and elements involved would be taken to the NAB (National Accountability Bureau).

Abid Sher Ali added that LESCO had arranged 1000 transformers and another 3500 trolley-transformers to cope with any emergency during holy month of Ramadan, while measures were also being put in place to ensure uninterrupted power supply to five sensitive places in the LESCO domain.

“We are striving hard to mitigate load-shedding up to 90 percent during Sahr and Iftaar,” he maintained.

The Minister of State for Water and Power urged the traders’ community to close down their businesses till 9pm and other consumers should also switch off air-conditioners during Sahr and Iftaar times.

Power load management of six hours in urban centre and eight hours in rural areas would be observed strictly, he said and asserted that load-shedding duration in high loss-making feeders/areas would be according to losses ratio.

To a query, Abid Sher Ali said that power system was being upgraded accordingly, as NTDCL (National Transmission and Dispatch Company Limited) was working efficiently in this regard.

He elaborated that 800MW each from under-construction power plants at Bhikkhi and Haveli Bahadur Shah would come in the system before 2017, and half of the generation capacity of Tarbela Fourth Extension Project would be added into the system by May 2017.

Responding to a Reporter’s query, he said that Kissan Ittahad had struck an agreement with Ministry of Water and Power for payment of current bills and installments of outstanding bills but the Kissan Ittehad did not follow the said agreement even by one percent.

In this regard, he warned, the respective authorities would take action including disconnection of power supply next month.

The government, he said, was taking all possible steps for generation of inexpensive electricity, adding, “The coal power plant that takes 40 months for completion, we are installing it in 28 months. We are making every effort to give an end to power load-shedding by 2018 as promised by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.”

To a question, he said that Okara, Depalpur, Kasur and Kanganpur had become no-go areas as the defaulters torched the DISCO’s officials, who went there to disconnect their supplies. A letter had been issued to all the DISCOs and the issue would also be taken up with the Punjab IGP.

He said that work on mobile reading had been completed by 100 percent and 50 percent in FESCO (Faisalabad) and LESCO (Lahore) respectively.

LESCO Chief Executive Office Qaisar Zaman and other high-ups were also present.
