All five Pakistani Pugilists fall in Baku because of non proper training

0

KARACHI, June 23 (APP): All five Pakistan Boxers have been eliminated from world qualifying round for Olympics held in Baku, Azerbaijan, due
to non proper training.

Admitting the responsibility of defeat in Baku, Secretary of
Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) Iqbal Hussain said this while talking
to APP.

“The International boxing is changing continuously across the
World and there is dire need of international training for Boxers but
unfortunately no training was imparted to boxers which was the main reason beyond the defeat”, he added.

Besides, no International tours were organized for training and
international boxing exposure, he said.

Apart from this, our boxers did not participate in International
Boxing Tournaments since long time which could help them to learn more about new trends in Boxing field, Iqbal Hussian said.

All this was due to shortage of funds, he said adding we were
provided with Rs. 30 millions by Government of Pakistan in 2012 and since then we did not get any support.

However, other countries have spent million rupees on the
training and tours and because of this, many of them have qualified in world qualifying round for Olympics, Secretary of PBF asserted.

In the lightweight preliminaries, Pakistan’s promising boxer
Awais Ali Khan was undone by Uke Smajli of Switzerland 3 0
Similarly, in the flyweight category preliminaries, young
Mohammad Asif went 0 3 down against experienced Tanes Ongjunta of
Thailand and Tanveer Ahmed was lost to Dongyun Lee of Korea in the middleweight preliminaries.

The 2010 South Asian Games gold medalist, Niamatullah had lost
his bantamweight fight against Caraballo Rodrigues Carlos Jose of Portugal 0 3 and Ali Ahmed had been beaten by Anvar Yunusov of Tajikistan also 0 3.

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, June 23 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain
and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday expressed resolve to
maintain close collaboration for the region’s security and prosperity and to jointly fight against terrorism and separatism.

The two leaders expressed these views in a delegation-level meeting held here at Kuksaroy – the State guest house, on the sidelines of 16th summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry also attended the meeting.

“The meeting discussed issues of bilateral interest including cooperation in economic and defence sectors, with specific focus on Pakistan’s inclusion in Nuclear Suppliers Group”, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry told APP about the meeting.

The Foreign Secretary said President Mamnoon Hussain thanked President Xi for China’s unequivocal support to Pakistan’s admission in the NSG and said China’s stance was based on the policy of non- discrimination.

“The President emphasized that Pakistan and India should be included in NSG on same time similar to their inclusion in SCO,” he said.

He said with the notion of Pakistan and China having common friends and foes, the two leaders agreed to work together to fight against terrorism, extremism and separatism.

Chinese President Xi has assured President Mamnoon that China would adopt criteria-based approach on the issue of NSG, which would support Pakistan’s case, the Foreign Secretary said.

President Mamnoon said Pakistan regards China’s enemies as its
own and had taken action against the militants of East Turkistan
Movement (ETM).

He said Pakistan would not allow the terrorists of ETM to have
safe havens at its soil.

The President thanked China for condemning the recent drone
strike by the United States that killed the Afghan leader Mullah
Akhter Mansour.

Mamnoon Hussain said Pakistan and China held unanimity of views on regional peace, prosperity and stability and mentioned that Pakistan was supportive of `One China policy’.

PPP will regret its decisions; COAS called PM twice during ailment: Ishaq Dar

0

ISLAMABAD, June 23 (APP): Minister for Finance, Revenue, Statistics and Economic Affairs Division Ishaq Dar on Thursday said Pakistan Peoples’ Party will regret its decision of agitation or filing cases against PML-N leadership and called upon saner elements in the party to avoid the politics of 90s.
“Although it is internal affair of PPP but it is regrettable that the
party is going to be trapped and will lament this decision in coming days,” Ishaq Dar said in a private news channel program, replying to a question about decision of filing cases for disqualification of the five PML key leaders.

He said lead persons of the party in the ToRs committee are misguiding
the party and it is responsibility of the elders in the party to apply their
sanity instead of listening to those who were trapping the party.

He said he sees Bilawal Bhutto the same manner as he used to during
meetings with Benazir Bhutto when BB used to call Bilawal to greet me. “I did not even reply his tweets. I see him with the same love as son of Benazir Bhutto.”

He said during the last meeting the government team had clearly defined the course of proceedings to the committee on ToRs clarifying that in response to every point of their ToRs certain law will either be violated or complied.

“We had prepared comprehensive ToRs which can be acceptable to any person with an unbiased thinking,” he added.

“PML-N does not need anybody’s immunity or amnesty. PPP is itself
falling prey to a trap on behest of some people and will regret its decision,” he added.

Answering a question, the Finance Minister said, Chief of Army Staff
called the Prime Minister twice; one time before the surgery and one time after it. Even when on other occasions, we had a contact with the COAS on national issues he first asked about health of the Prime Minister. “The government and the establishment have cordial relations. These are some people who are busy in rumor mongering and trying to create confusion.”

About the health status of the Prime Minister, he said it was decided
that Maryam Nawaz would continue updating on this issue and she has been doing so with her tweets. We have been told that doctors may allow the Prime Minister to travel during last days of Ramazan and on this matter also, we held a meeting to welcome the PM in a befitting manner.

He said his meeting with the Opposition Leader was about nomination of the members of Election Commission but as far as the matter of filing cases against the PML-N leaders, “it will not be a welcoming decision.”

He also referred to the past when he met with Benazir Bhutto in 2002 and consequently a door was opened for negotiations that ended at creation of Charter of Democracy.

He said some names for the ECP members were sent to me by the Prime Minister that have informally been conveyed to the Opposition Leader. We have planned to hold meetings on the issue after Eid and hopefully the process would be completed with stipulated 45 days and in the light of the 22nd constitutional amendment, two of the four upcoming members will have half tenure for one time like it was done in case of the members of the Senate.

PM’s Office clarifies media reports about expenditure on bathroom renovation

0

ISLAMABAD, Jun 23 (APP): The Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday vehemently denied the media reports regarding incurring expenditure to the tune of Rs 22 million on renovation of bathroom of the PM’s House as no such expenditure was being made at PM’s House.

However, repair and maintenance of PM’s Office building (formerly PM’s Secretariat) had been proposed as the same was being neglected for a decade or so, a statement issued by the PM’s Office here said.

The rationale is as under:-
The PM’s Office, a seven-storey building, was constructed/opened in the year 1997. Since its inception, the building is being used as secretariat by successive Prime Ministers/Chief Executive lead governments.

A number of other Federal Government Organizations/ Programmes like NDMA, ERRA, NAVTEC, NCGR, PMIC, PM Youth Programme, PM’s Polio Programme were also sharing the same building. Hence, as many as 1000 employees were using the building.

Needless to mention that PM’s Office building was a national asset and show window to rest of the world. However, due to poor repair and maintenance over the last decade or so, the building had not only started giving an ugly/decaying look but had posed serious health and safety threat to the employees working there.

In order to save this national asset and to ensure health and safety of the employees working in that building, an overhauling of the building had been suggested which included repair and maintenance of 74 bathrooms/ablution places located in all the seven floors of the building at a cost of Rs 21.821 million.

While the aforementioned expenditure remained the accumulated cost of being neglected more than a decade, the ultimate beneficiaries were more than 1000 employees of various government organizations working in that building.

0

ISLAMABAD, June 23 (APP): Pakistan has all credentials to become member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group and it is absolutely essential for the NSG to consider the Indian and Pakistani applications simultaneously and even handedly.

Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said while addressing the weekly briefing here on Thursday at Foreign Office.

“Pakistan will continue to highlight its strong credentials
and pursue NSG membership based on non discriminatory and objective criteria. Several NSG countries look upon NPT as the cornerstone of the nuclear non proliferation regime. We believe that the reality of non NPT nuclear states has to be accommodated,” he said.

He said it has been Pakistan’s consistent position that the
question of NSG membership for non NPT states must be dealt in accordance with a single, uniform, non discriminatory and on the basis of fair criteria.

Responding to a question about Afghan delegation recently visited Islamabad, he said during the visit of Afghan delegation to Pakistan both sides have agreed to develop a mechanism for effective border management and remove the communication gap.

He said the matter would also be discussed during the meeting of Advisor to Prime Minister Sartaj Aziz and Afghan Foreign Minister on the sidelines of the ongoing Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summitt being held in Uzbekistan.

However, he said Pakistan’s stance in this regard was very
clear that it was constructing gate within its own territory and border management was a key component of country’s counter terrorism drive.

The Spokesperson reiterated that Pak Afghan border had been
misused by the unwanted elements and real objective behind its management was to reduce the infiltration.

To a question about repatriation plan of Afghan Refugees, he said Pakistan hosted 3.5 million Afghan refugees and besides having its implication on national economy even some of the refugee camps had become a security risk.

He said Pakistani authorities were taking up the matter with
world community urging them to extend support for return of these refugees.

About Pakistan India ties, the Spokesperson said Pakistan’s
government was pursuing a policy of friendly ties with all
neighbouring states including India. However, Pakistan had time and
again raised the issue of human rights violation in Occupied
Kashmir.

To a question, he said the arrest of Indian spy Kulbhushan
Yadav was a solid evidence of Indian involvement of terror financing in Pakistan, adding that Pakistan’s concerns were genuine.

About Pak India dialogue, he said no pre conditions could be
linked with the resumption of bilateral dialogue.

Responding to a question, Nafees Zakaria said all the members
of Quadrilateral Coordination Group were making efforts for
establishment of peace in Afghanistan; however, an Afghan owned and
Afghan led solution would prove the best in this regard.

He said amidst QCG’s efforts, a Taliban leader was killed whom
they were trying to bring to the dialogue table.

About the development of China Pakistan Economic Corridor, the
Spokesman said all the projects under this umbrella were going on as
per schedule. The Corridor would prove beneficial not only for the people of Pakistan and China but also for the whole region.

He also ruled out the impression of any communication gap
between Pakistan and China over CPEC.

To a question, he said Pakistan had taken up the issue of non
payment of wages to around 110 Pakistani workers in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The company had assured to pay their dues once its financial position improves, he added.
