Pakistan, Germany enjoy cordial, cooperative relations: Ayaz

ISLAMABAD, July 9 (APP): Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Saturday said that Pakistan and Germany enjoy cordial and cooperative relations which needs to be further strengthened through substantive and
long term parliamentary and economic cooperation.

According to the message received from Germany, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said this while talking to German State Secretary of Foreign Affairs Frank Walter Steinmeier who called on the Speaker of National Assembly in Berlin.

Speaker briefed the German dignitary on strengthening of
Parliamentary democracy in Pakistan; the prospects and desirability of peace in Afghanistan; and the positive trajectory of economic development and
the immense opportunities provided by the CPEC for trade and connectivity in the region and beyond.

He also highlighted the issues of Defence procumbent of Germany, and the expected role of the major powers towards a criteria based expansion of NSG.

The meeting resolved to facilitate German investments in Pakistan; with the State Secretary planning to visit Pakistan third time in two years. This fall at the head of a delegation of German businessman.

The meeting ended with mutual assurances to further deeper already excellent bilateral relations.

During the meeting, the Speaker was accompanied by Mir Amir Magsi, MNA and the Ambassador of Pakistan in Germany, Jauhar Saleem.

Earlier, Chairman of the South Asia Friendship Group in the German Parliament Niels Annen hosted a lunch in the honour of the Speaker.

Full Spectrum of bilateral and regional issues were discussed during the lunch.

It was decided that the contacts between the two parliaments would be further strengthening with frequent exchanges and deepening of institutional linkages.

President grieved at demise of Abdul Sattar Edhi

ISLAMABAD, Jul 8 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of renowned social worker and philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi.

“The services of late Edhi will always be remembered and
people working in the field of social work will feel proud by
following in his footsteps,” the President said in his
condolence message addressed to Bilqees Edhi (wife) and Faisal Edhi (son) of late Abdul Sattar Edhi,

The President prayed for grant of eternal peace to the departed soul and for fortitude to the bereaved family.

Edhi to be laid to rest with state honour

RAWALPINDI, July 8 (APP): The world fame human rights activist, Abdul Sattar Edhi, would be laid to rest with full state honour and  dignity, according to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

“Arrangements are being made for state funeral of late Edhi
Sahib,” Director General ISPR Lt Gen Asim Bajwa stated in a tweet  on Saturday.

Security by Army, Rangers and Law Enforcement Agencies is being  arranged at the funeral of the legendary human rights activist.

Gun salute will also be part of his funeral ceremony, he added.

Edhi breathed his last after protracted illness at hospital
in the Metropolitan city of Karachi late Friday.

Laws Review Committee discusses legislation proposals

ISLAMABAD, July 9 (APP): Minister for Finance, Revenue, Statistics  and Economic Affairs Division Muhammad Ishaq Dar on Saturday said eminent humanitarin Abdul Sattar Edhi was a noble personality and had no match in dispensing services in social sector.

Talking to PTV, Ishaq Dar spoke highly of the commitment and  dedication of Abdul Sattar Edhi in ameliorating the lot of deserving  people and said his services would be remembered for centuries.

“Edhi was a noble man. He had no match in serving the poor masses and it is hard to say that the country would produce another Abdul Sattar Edhi in near future,” he added.

He appreciated the decision of the Prime Minister to declare his funeral as state funeral and present him Guard of Honour.

“He was a  great man and his legacy is a guiding spirit for us. Therefore, it is obligatory on every Pakistani to pray for the peace of departed soul.”

Answering a question, he said Abdul Sattar Edhi was used to
mobilize funds himself for his foundation and as far as the government  was concerned, the PML-N government had provided tax exemption for Edhi Foundation.

“It is our policy to facilitate welfare organizations whether
it is Edhi Foundation or Shaukat Khanam Hospital.”

He said the Edhi Foundation was also one of the beneficiaries when  the government cancelled hundreds of SROs and the SRO that exempted Edhi Foundation from taxes, would continue to exist.

When asked about the sentiments of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Finance Minister said he (the Premier) was grieved on his death.

He had  also asked him (Dar) to visit Sattar Edhi when he visited Karachi  after budget.

“It was an honour for me to represent the PM to enquire
about his health.

The affection, the Prime Minister has for Abdul Sattar Edhi, is beyond description. He has desired the nation to pray for
Mr Edhi.”

KARACHI, July 9 (APP): People from various walks of life have paid rich tributes to eminent social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi who served the cause of humanity both locally as well as internationally.

A prominent social worker, Ramzan Chhipa, recounted the services of the deceased.

He said that impressed by Edhi Saheb’s immense contribution, he also launched the Chhipa Ambulance Service.

Sattar Edhi was running one of the biggest private networks of ambulances.

Iftikhar Ghazali, chief of Sahar Foundation, also eulogized the
contributions of Sattar Edhi for the cause of humanity.

Singer Shahzad Roy also paid rich tributes for the social
services of Sattar Edhi.

The Chief Executive of TDAP, S.M. Muneer, industrialists Aqeel Karim Dedhi, Arif Habib, Dr. Ramesh Khumar MNA, also paid tributes to Sattar Edhi who adopted abandoned children, set up shelter homes, arranged marriages of the poor girls, provided food to the needy, and established clinics for the poor.

He also participated in the relief and rescue work in the case of earthquakes, flood as well as other natural calamities at home as well as abroad.

No award matches Edhi’s stature: Malala

ISLAMABAD, July 9 (APP): Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai Saturday paid homage to Abdul Sattar Edhi for unforgettable services to humanity saying no award could match the grand stature of the great man.

Talking to a private news channel, Malala said,”He was not only  loved in Pakistan but across the world. Although I had recommended him for Nobel Peace Prize but when we see his services, no award matches his stature.”

“Edhi was kind, he was noble and he was courageous. His unflinching determination could not be defeated and this he manifested through accomplishment of his mission,” she added. “He dared all odds and continued his mission and his funeral was a glaring example of love, he had for the mankind and mankind had for him.”

She said the spirit and commitment of Abdul Sattar Edhi was a message for the nation as to how a single person could install a country wide network when he bore the burden of a mission to serve the humanity.

“He has taught us brotherhood, tolerance, piety, honesty and above all serving the humanity regardless of religion, caste and creed,” Malala said. “His mission also carries a message for Pakistani people as if they stand united to serve their needy fellows, they will emerge as an invincible nation.”

She said simply if Pakistani people follow his teachings and spirit, no power in the world can stop it from becoming a welfare state. “He is also a beacon of light for our youth and treading on his footsteps can make them an asset for the country.”

Malala also mentioned to a telephonic conversation with Abdul Sattar Edhi and termed it an honor for her. “Even today his voice resounds in my ears and I cannot forget it whole of my remaining life. He was a great person and would be remembered for ages.”

LANDIKOTAL, July 09 (APP): Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that report regarding FATA reforms has been prepared and final decision in that regard will be taken by Prime Minister in light of the opinion of the majority of tribesmen.

He expressed these views while addressing a jirga of tribal elders in Landikotal, Khyber Agency on Saturday.

He said that the report will be presented to Prime Minister soon after which he himself will announced FATA reforms.

The Governor said that the government will not impose any decision on tribesmen rather reforms will be introduced in light of consultations with them, which will bear positive and pleasant impacts on their lives.

The Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that tribesmen have passed through difficult and hard period, adding that first the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif adopted the path of negotiations in FATA. But, on failure, he took the timely decision of operation Zarb e Azb and protected the whole country and FATA and now tribesmen are living peaceful life.

He said that Pakistan is constructing Torkham Border Gate, which will make possible the checking of the entry and exit of people in better manner and their travel documents could be scrutinized. However, he said that the purpose of the Torkham Gate is not meant to stop Afghans.

The Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that Afghan and Pakistan governments are negotiating to repatriate Afghan refugees in such honourable manner where the government of Afghanistan could provide them all possible facilities.

He said that by the end of the current year all FATA IDPs will be repatriated to their houses in honourable manner and wherever destruction had occurred rehabilitation work is also in full swing there.

On this occasion, the Governor, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also announced an amount of Rs.05 million for Major Jawad Ali Chengzi, who martyred during Torkham tension and also prayed for his eternal peace.

The Governor also distributed relief cheques for the heirs of 72 other persons that were martyred and injured in Torkham and other areas of Khyber Agency.

Madar e Millat Fatima Jinnah remembered on 49th death anniversary

ISLAMABAD, July 9 (APP): The 49th death anniversary of Madre Millat Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah was observed with reverence a nd respect on Saturday.

Various political parties and women wings of many organizations arranged conferences and seminars to highlight the services rendered by Fatima Jinnah.

Radio and TV channels aired specail programmes while newspapers published supplements to highlight her role and support to his brother Quaid i Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in his struggle for the creation of Pakistan.

The Quaid was greatly affected after his wife’s death in 1929.

Fatima Jinnah worked side by side with Mohammad Ali Jinnah and gathered the women of Sub continent on one platform which made the struggle for achieving a separate state of Muslims easier.

In 1947, Jinnah formed the Women s Relief Committee, which later formed the nucleus for the All Pakistan Women s Association (APWA).

She also played a significant role in the settlement of Muhajirs in the new state of Pakistan.

Jinnah is referred as the Madar i Millat or Mother of the Nation for her role in the Freedom Movement. She returned to the political forefront to contest the 1964 elections at the age of 71 against the military administrator Ayub Khan.
Fatima Jinnah died in Karachi on July 9, 1967.

Fatima Jinnah is still remembered for her passionate support for civil rights, and devoted struggle in Pakistan Movement.`

CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif attends Sattar Edhi’s funeral

KARACHI, July 9 (APP): Chief Minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif attended the Namaz i Janaza of eminent social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi on Saturday. He represented Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

He embraced the son of the deceased, Faisal Edhi, and offered condolences.

Shahbaz Sharif said that Sattar Edhi was an asset of the country and identity of Pakistan.

He said that Edhi Saheb laid the foundation of social service and added a new chapter by serving the cause of humanity.
Shahbaz Sharif wished Faisal well for carrying forward the
mission of his father.

Earlier, on arrival here, the Punjab Chief Minister said that he
was very much inspired by the work and personality of Sattar Edhi.

He further stated that Sattar Edhi was the hero of the entire
nation who has served the cause of humanity for several decades.

Shahbaz Sharif pointed out that one of the main thorough fares of Lahore would be named after Sattar Edhi in recognition of his immense services.

Earlier, on arrival at Karachi Airport, Shahbaz Sharif was
received by provincial minister Jam Khan Shoro, Senator Nihal Hashmi, president of PML N Sindh, Ismail Rahu, Shah Muhammad Shah and others.

The Punjab Chief Minister was accompanied by federal minister Ahsen Iqbal.

Hindu community pledges to follow Edhi’s footsteps

ISLAMABAD, July 9 (APP): The Hindu community in the country Saturday pledged to follow the footsteps of legendary social worker late Abdul Sattar Edhi to serve humanity.

Pakistan Hindu Council patron in chief and Member of National Assembly Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani expressed grief on the sad demise of renowned philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi and said the Hindu community would pay him homage and respect would follow his footsteps to serve the humanity.

In a condolence message, Dr Ramesh paid rich tribute to the great services of late Edhi, saying that Edhi had always actively participated in the annual mass wedding ceremonies organized by Pakistan Hindu Council in the honour of poor Hindu couples.

“Recently, a Pakistan Hindu Council delegation had also visited him to enquire about his health,” he said.
He appealed that Hindu community may carry out special prayers for the pardon of the departed soul.
