Oil prices rise in Asia as Doha meeting, US report loom

SINGAPORE, April 11, (APP/AFP): Crude prices rose in Asia Monday, extending last week’s gains from data showing a drop in US production, while traders look ahead to an upcoming meeting of oil majors they hope will lead to limits on output.

Data showing US stockpiles and output had seen a surprise fall provided some much needed impetus to the market last week, with a fall in the number of rigs drilling also provided strong support.

Dealers are keenly awaiting the next stockpiles report due Wednesday hoping for a further fall, which would indicate a pick-up in demand.

Kerry pays landmark visit to Hiroshima atomic bomb memorial

HIROSHIMA, Japan, April 11, (APP/AFP): John Kerry became the first US secretary of state to visit the memorial to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on Monday, but an aide ruled out any apology by Washington over the US attack on the Japanese city.

Kerry, who was accompanied by other G7 foreign ministers, is the highest-ranking administration official to pay his respects at the revered site of the World War II bombing—the world’s first nuclear attack.

His trip comes as White House officials say President Barack Obama is considering a stop in the city late next month around the time of a Group of  Seven summit, which is being held in another part of the country.

UN mediator urges all parties to respect Yemen truce

UNITED NATIONS, United States, April 11, (APP/AFP): United Nations special envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed welcomed Sunday the ceasefire that took effect in Yemen, and urged the parties and governments around the world to support the truce.

“I ask all the parties and the international community to remain steadfast in support for this cessation of hostilities to be a first step in Yemen’s return to peace,” he said. “This is critical, urgent and much needed. Yemen cannot afford the loss of more lives.”

Nothing new in Imran's address: Pervaiz Rashid

ISLAMABAD, Apr 10 (APP): Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid Sunday said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief through his so called address to nation had only fulfilled his childish desire without anything new.
He advised Imran Khan to put his house in order before pointing fingers on others.
Talking to private TV channels, he said Prime Minister,
Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s family had been doing business since 1936, but Imran Khan, on the other hand, having no such activities, was travelling lavishly in aircraft. He said Imran Khan always fell in the same ditch which he (Imran) had dug for others.

People tired of listening repeated statements of PTI chief: Musadik

ISLAMABAD, Apr 10 (APP): Spokesman to the Prime Minister Dr. Musadik Malik Sunday said that there was nothing new in Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chief Imran Khan’s address as people had been tired of listening to these repeated statements.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said Imran Khan was demanding formation of a commission under supervision of the Chief Justice of Supreme Court but on the other hand, he did not accept its verdicts.
He said that the Prime Minister and his children had already presented for accountability in front of inquiry commission.

550 army engineers working for restoration of KKH

RAWALPINDI April 10 (APP): In line to repair and reconstruct Karakorum Highway (KKH) at four points about 550 army engineering troops have been making all out efforts to restore the communication links through the main artery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the Inter Services Public Relations here on Sunday, some 70 plants have been engaged for carrying out reconstruction of KKH at different locations including Khial, Dassu, Nomad and Attabad while the inclement weather conditions have been posing hurdles on earlier accomplishment of the repair tasks.
Meanwhile, 700 km roads have been restored including Gilgit-Skardu road. Main roads in Malakand and Chitral are opened for the vehicular traffic while work on Shangla, Buner and Bahrain, Kalam links is in progress.

PTI's stubbornness weakened democracy: Saad

Pakistan Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique said on Sunday
PTI’s stubbornness and lust for power had just
weakened the democracy.
Commenting on Imran Khan’s speech, he said,
opposition should choose the parliament and courts
for acceptance of their demands instead of creating chaos
through sit-ins and protests.
“Such negative tactics will only create hurdles in the
way of progress and development of the country,” he added.

Cultural Caravan visits Takht-e-Babar, Katas Raj Temple

KALAR KAHAR, Apr 10 (APP): A cultural caravan led by Chairman Archeological and Historical Association of Pakistan Dr Ghazanfar Mehdi Sunday visited Takh-e-Babar and Katas Raj Temple, Chakwal.
Indian High Commissioner Gautam Bambawale, Ambassador of Ukraine Volodymyr Lakomov and Acting Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan, Mehvish Sultana, member of Punjab Assembly, Vice Chairman Archeological and Historical Association Prof. Dr. Akbar S. Ahmad (U.S.A), a number of diplomates, families, writers and people from different walks of life from Islamabad were part of the Cultural Caravan.
Upon reaching Takht-e-Babar, Kalar Kahar, District
Coordination Officer (DCO) Mehmood Javed Bhatti and DPO Chakwal Munir Masood welcomed the guests.

PM directs for safety of citizens after quake

ISLAMABAD, Apr 10 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has directed all the federal, civil, military and provincial rescue and relief agencies to declare immediate alert and mobilise all resources to ensure safety of citizens in the wake of earthquake on Sunday.
“All agencies have been directed to move out with their
resources to find out the affected people and ensure immediate rescue activities and assistance wherever required,” a press release of the PM Office media wing said.
The Prime Minister further directed the relevant quarters
to keep him updated on the developing situation.

Constitution Day celebrated at Lok Virsa

Representatives, Lok Virsa management celebrated “Constitution Day” on Sunday at the ongoing Folk Festival of Pakistan “Lok Mela” here at Shakarparian.
The entire day programs focused on creating national harmony
and integration between provinces, said a press release issued here.
The folk singers and folk dance groups of one province performed at the pavilion of other provinces to show a sign of solidarity and unity.
This also provided an opportunity for them to exchange their
expertise and experiences with their counterparts from other
provinces in a meaningful way.
