IHC’s special bench’s cause list again cancelled

ISLAMABAD, Dec 04 (APP): The cause list of special division bench of Islamabad High Court (IHC) formed to hear tax related cases once again cancelled due to unavailability of Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan.
Justice Ishaq Khan was on leave due to health issues. However, Justice Muhammad Asif, who is also part of the bench, has joined office and started performing duties after two days leave.

Governor emphasizes need for federal support on security, NFC Award, afghan refugee policy

SWABI, Dec 04 (APP): Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has stressed that the province cannot move forward without close cooperation from the federal government, particularly on matters of overall security, the Afghan refugees policy, and the upcoming NFC Award.
He expressed these views while speaking to the media at a reception hosted in his honour by Syed Dawood Jan, former Chief Engineer C&W and former President Peoples Students Federation, at his residence here on Thursday.
The reception was attended by senior party leaders from across the province, including former Governor Masood Kausar, Central General Secretary Humayun Khan and provincial president Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, senior leader Dilnawaz Khan, District President Ali Khan, Biland Khan Tarakai, Engineer Yahya Khalil, Dr Sawera Parkash, Asiya Jahangir, Iram Fatima and Sajid Hussain Turi.
Governor Kundi said that security challenges persisted across various regions from D.I. Khan to Chitral, and that intelligence-based operations were essential to counter the threat.
He maintained that development was impossible without peace, adding that investors would not come unless law and order improved.
Highlighting the importance of federal cooperation, he said, “If we want to run the province effectively, we need the support of the federation.” He said that the NFC Award meeting taking place today was crucial and expressed confidence that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would receive its fair share. “Rights are earned through dialogue and reasoning, not through abuse,” he added.
Reaffirming his commitment to working with all stakeholders, the Governor said the province’s peace, development and prosperity required collective effort and consensus.
Speaking about Afghan refugees, Kundi reiterated that all undocumented Afghan nationals staying in Pakistan must return. “No country in the world allows foreigners to stay without visas; the provincial government must also fulfill its responsibility,” he said.
In response to a question about the possibility of Governor’s Rule, he said that the Governor is a representative of the federation and any decision by the federal government in this regard would be implemented fully.
Governor Kundi reaffirmed that the provincial administration was committed to taking all necessary measures to restore and maintain peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Meanwhile, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi inaugurated a new feeder in Parmoli, Swabi.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said that the scope of WAPDA-related facilities will be further expanded. He added that the establishment of this feeder was a long-standing demand of the local residents, which is now being fulfilled.

Batagram police arrest suspect, ice drugs

PESHAWAR, Dec 04 (APP): Batgram police in Charsadda district here Thursday carried out a successful operation, arresting one suspect and recovering ice (crystal meth).
On the directions of District Police Chief Charsadda, Muhammad Waqas Khan, operations against drugs are ongoing throughout the district.
DSP Shabqadar Riaz Khan and SHO Batgram police station Zulfiqar Ali Khan alongwith police party conducted a successful operation, arresting one suspect and recovering 980 grams of ice. A case has been registered against the suspect, and further investigation is in progress.

19 killed, 1346 injured in Punjab road accidents

LAHORE, Dec 04 (APP): Nineteen people were killed and 1,346 others injured in 1,224 road accidents in Punjab during the last 24 hours, according to a report, issued by the Punjab Emergency Service (PES), commonly known as Rescue-1122, here on Thursday.
As many as 538 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 808 with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by the rescue medical teams.
The data analysis showed that 787 drivers, 34 underage drivers, 187 pedestrians and 391 passengers were among the victims of road crashes. The statistics show that 261 accidents were reported in Lahore, which affected 310 people, placing the provincial capital at top of the list, followed by Faisalabad with 84 accidents and 90 victims, and at third Multan with 74 accidents and 77 victims.
According to the data, 1,146 motorbikes, 104 auto-rickshaws, 145 motorcars, 35 vans, 22 passenger buses, 28 trucks and 102 other types of vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in the road accidents.

Clean drinking schemes to be completed on time: Minister

PESHAWAR, Dec 04 (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Public Health Engineering, Fazal Shakoor Khan has said that all development schemes related to provision of clean drinking water and improved sanitation systems would be completed on priority basis.
He was talking to elected representatives of southern districts here on Thursday. He said that development schemes of the department would be distributed equally across all districts and constituencies.
The representatives briefed the minister about ongoing water supply schemes, ADP approved development projects, schemes facing delays and obstacles affecting timely completion. They pointed out issues such as deteriorated old pipelines and other challenges affecting progress.
The minister assured the elected representatives that all schemes would be completed within the stipulated time-lines. He maintained that department would ensure completion of all ongoing and ADP schemes with transparency, abiding by high quality standards and timely execution.
The minister issued directives to prepare the PC-I for the existing rehabilitation of pipeline and solarization of the ADP scheme in district Tank. He also assured timey release of funds allocated for ongoing schemes.

KP Assembly committee on legislation meets

PESHAWAR, Dec 04 (APP): A meeting of the cabinet committee on legislation,chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights, Advocate Aftab Alam, was held here Thursday in which necessary amendments to various legal drafts were reviewed.
The meeting was attended by Secretary of the Law Department Akhtar Saeed Turk, Secretary of the Establishment Department Syed Zulfiqar Shah, Secretary of the Planning and Development Department Adeel Shah, Secretary of Minerals and Mineral Development Amir Latif, as well as officials from the Advocate General’s Office, Finance, Law, Auqaf, Board of Revenue, Minerals and Mineral Development, Livestock, and other relevant departments.
The meeting discussed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Climate Action Board (Amendment) Act, 2025, aimed at further strengthening the province’s environmental management structure.
Briefing the meeting, officials from the Environment Department said that the revised act includes the establishment of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Climate Council, introduction of an Emergency and Rehabilitation Fund, and structuring of the Climate Action Board (CAB) as an executive board.
The original Climate Action Board Act, 2025, was approved by the Provincial Assembly on 2th September 2025.
 It is the first sub-national body of its kind with balanced public and private sector representation, providing technical support for effective decision-making and remaining financially autonomous, resulting in minimal burden on the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The amendment proposes the establishment of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Climate Council through Section 2(c)-i and Section 8-A.
Participants of the meeting held detailed discussions on various aspects of the proposed laws, legal requirements, technical matters, and implementation challenges, and presented their recommendations for improvement.
During the briefing on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minerals Development and Management Company Bill 2025, it was said that the bill aims to promote efficient utilization of mineral resources, transparent management, and sustainable development in the province.
The proposed law will provide a comprehensive framework regarding the company’s structure, procedures, financial discipline, and fair use of resources.
Discussing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Animal Health Bill 2025, the relevant officials said that the bill is crucial for modernizing the province’s animal health system in line with contemporary requirements, preventing diseases, improving veterinary services, and strengthening the livestock sector, which will also boost the agricultural economy.
Law Minister Advocate Aftab Alam reiterated the government’s commitment to comprehensive and effective legislation in the larger public interest, stating that all drafts discussed in the committee will soon be forwarded to the provincial cabinet after resolving the legal and technical issues.
