China to provide $100m to Palestine to alleviate human crisis in Gaza

BEIJING, Dec 5 (APP): Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced that China will provide US$100 million of assistance to Palestine to alleviate human crisis in Gaza and support it recovery and reconstruction, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Lin Jian said on Friday.
In response to a question during his regular briefing held here, he said that yesterday, when jointly meeting the press with French President Emmanuel Macron, President Xi Jinping said that China and France will work together for the realization of a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian question at an early date. He announced that China will provide US$100 million of assistance to Palestine to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and support its recovery and reconstruction.
Lin Jian said that it has been over two years since the latest conflict in Gaza broke out, which caused unprecedented humanitarian crisis. China is deeply concerned over that. Since the outbreak of the conflict, China has provided multiple batches of humanitarian supplies to the Gaza strip through the UN, Egypt, Jordan and other channels, which was welcomed and appreciated by the Palestinian government and people.
“We believe the latest assistance worth US$100 million announced by President Xi Jinping and earmarked for the easing of the humanitarian crisis and post-conflict reconstruction will help improve Gaza’s humanitarian situation and reduce the suffering of the Palestinian people,” he added.
The spokesperson said that President Xi Jinping described the Palestinian question as a test to the effectiveness of the global governance system and called on the international community to look straight at the root cause of the question, step up to the responsibility and take robust action to redress the historical injustice and uphold fairness and justice.
China firmly supports the just cause of the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate national rights and will continue working relentlessly with the international community for a full and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, the easing of humanitarian situation there, and an early political settlement of the Palestinian question on the basis of the two-State solution, he added.

SSP Investigation reviews police record-keeping, case follow-up

RAWALPINDI, Dec 05 (APP): Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Raja Nasir on Friday chaired a meeting at the Police Lines Headquarters to review the performance of clerical staff from police stations across Rawalpindi.
According to a police spokesman, the meeting was attended by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Legal, branch in-charges, readers and clerical staff. SSP Investigation Raja Nasir instructed the staff to ensure the timely preparation of challans for cases under investigation and the effective follow-up of cases in courts, including the presence of witnesses.
He emphasised that manual and computerised records at police stations must be completed promptly and that fugitives involved in serious cases should be apprehended without delay.
“Addressing citizens’ issues on a priority basis and ensuring the safety of life and property remain the foremost responsibilities of the Rawalpindi Police,” he added.

ATC cancels Omar Ayub’s bail in 3 May-9 cases

LAHORE, Dec 05 (APP): An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday cancelled the interim bail of PTI leader Omar Ayub in three cases linked to the May 9 violence.
ATC Judge Arshad Javed passed the order after the accused failed to appear during the proceedings.
The court also dismissed Omar Ayub’s application seeking exemption from personal appearance for one-day.
Omar Ayub is a nominated suspect in cases registered at Gulberg, Model Town, and Naseerabad police stations in connection with the May 9 incidents.

Excise dept achieves record 50pc tax target

MULTAN, Dec 05 (APP): The Excise & Taxation Department achieved a remarkable milestone by recovering Rs. 2.5 billion in taxes — 50 per cent of the annual target of Rs. 5 billion — well before the end of the first half of the ongoing fiscal year 2025-26.
According to a performance report, issued by Deputy Director Khalid Hussain Qasoori, Multan district topped the division with 52 percent tax recovery, followed by Vehari at 47pc, Lodhran at 46pc and Khanewal at 44 percent.
At the divisional level, the Motor branch led all segments with an impressive recovery of Rs. 1.32 billion. The Property Tax branch collected Rs. 1.04 billion, while Professional Tax amounted to Rs. 455 million. Additionally, Excise Duties generated Rs. 542 million during the period.
Director Excise & Taxation Multan division Iftikhar Ahmed Bhalli urged the business community, small traders, and owners of luxury properties to ensure timely payment of their outstanding property, professional, and token taxes. He noted that the department has already delivered door-to-door property tax challans to residential and commercial taxpayers across the division.
He directed excise staff to facilitate taxpayers with courteous behavior, promptly address their concerns, and intensify field efforts to further improve government revenue collection.
Bhalli emphasized that timely tax payments play a vital role in the development and progress of the city.

SSP Qazi inspects duty points, issues directions for stronger security

ISLAMABAD, Dec 05 (APP): Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Qazi Ali Raza on Friday visited various duty points across the federal capital to review security arrangements and meet police officers and personnel deployed on duty.
An official told APP that the visit was carried out in line with the special directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, who has instructed that foolproof security measures be ensured throughout the city.
SSP Qazi inspects duty points, issues directions for stronger security
During the visit, SSP Qazi inspected checking points and interacted with officers and jawans on duty. He directed the staff to further strengthen security measures and ensure that checking at all points remains effective, purposeful and uninterrupted.
He urged officers to stay fully alert at all times, thoroughly check suspicious persons and vehicles, and immediately report any unusual activity to the concerned authorities. He also instructed that citizens be treated with courtesy and respect so that public trust in the police continues to strengthen.
The SSP reiterated that protecting the lives and property of citizens is the top priority of Islamabad Capital Territory Police and that all security steps are being implemented with this objective in view.

Free eye camp held in Lodhran

LODHRAN, Dec 05 (APP): With the support of Jahangir Khan Tareen, a two-day free eye camp was organised under the Lodhran Pilot Project (LPP), providing essential health services to hundreds of local residents.
According to LPP officials, the camp provided free medical examinations to 787 patients, conducted 260 sight-restoring eye surgeries for men, women, and children, and distributed 243 pairs of eyeglasses to those in need. LPP CEO Dr.Abdul Saboor expressed gratitude to Jahangir Khan Tareen and Ali Khan Tareen for their continued support and patronage. He noted that, because of their efforts, 45 free eye camps have been held in Lodhran to date, where more than 74,000 patients have received checkups and 11,000 surgeries have been successfully performed.
He added that patients with serious eye conditions are also referred to Sukkur for advanced treatment.
Dr. Saboor reaffirmed that the mission of service will continue, ensuring that quality healthcare remains accessible to underserved communities across the district.

Man ends his life along with baby daughter

SARGODHGA, Dec 05 (APP): A man committed suicide along with his baby girl by jumping into Lower Jehlum Canal in Phularwan area, situated in jurisdiction of Phularwan police station, here on Friday for some domestic reasons.
Rescue 1122 sources said that a man, identified as Irtaza Nasar (35), a resident of Chakian area, along with his baby daughter, Hudeeba, committed suicide.
Upon receiving the information, Rescue 1122 divers and a police team, led by DSP Circle Bhalwal and SHO concerned, reached the spot and fished out the body of Hudeeba, while searching operation for Irtaza was still under way, till filing of the report.
Sources also said that Irtaza, before committing suicide, recorded a video message in which he stated that he, along with his baby daughter, was going to end his life.

129th syndicate meeting of UAP approves promotions of TTS faculty

The meeting was chaired by Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Jahan Bakht.

Rs 14bln mega sewerage project to begin this month

SARGODHA, Dec 05 (APP): A massive sewerage project worth Rs 14 billion, approved by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aiming to permanently resolve Sargodha’s decades-old sewerage problems, is set to kick off this month.
It was disclosed by Commissioner Sargodha Jehanzeb Awan while presiding over a meeting regarding preparations for the project’s inauguration where Deputy Commissioner Capt (retd) Muhammad Waseem, MD WASA Abu Bakar Umar, CEO SWMC Rana Shahid Imran, CO Municipal Corporation Majid Bin Ahmed, SE Highways, FESCO officials, officers from relevant departments, and a technical team from NESPAK were present.
During the meeting, it was agreed that the contractor will mobilize to the field within the next few days so that physical work can begin without delay.
MD WASA Abu Bakar Umar briefed the meeting on the project’s scope, phase-wise planning, and technical components.
The Commissioner directed that all pending NOCs must be cleared immediately, stressing that no procedural delays would be tolerated.
He instructed departments, including PTCL and Sui Gas, to ensure the identification and timely shifting of underground cables and pipelines to prevent potential damage during construction.
He added that all departments would extend full support for road restoration, crossing points, and other related development works.
Commissioner Jehanzeb Awan termed the initiative a historic milestone for Sargodha, emphasizing that the project is directly linked to public welfare.
He instructed all departments to work with dedication and assured that the district and divisional administration would provide full support to ensure its successful completion.

SBP injects over Rs 2.6 trillion in the market

KARACHI, Dec 05 (APP): The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) injected Rs 2,610.8 billion through Reverse Repo Purchase and Shariah Compliant Mudarabah based Open Market Operations (OMO) on Friday to maintain liquidity in the market.
The central bank conducted the Open Market Operation, Reverse Repo Purchase (Injection) for 7 and 14-day tenors on December 05, 2025, and injected Rs 2,437.8 billion against 14 bids while other Rs 173 billion were inserted through Shariah Compliant Mudarabah based OMO.
The central bank received 11 bids for the 14-day Reverse Repo Purchase, cumulatively offering Rs 2,384.8 billion at the rate of return ranging between 11.01 to 11.08%. The SBP accepted all the bids with the entire amount at 11.01% rate of return.
Moreover, the SBP also received 3 quotes for the 7-day tenor, cumulatively offering Rs 53 billion at the rate of return ranging between 11.03% to 11.05%.
The SBP accepted the entire amount at 11.03% rate of return.
Meanwhile, SBP also conducted Shariah Compliant Mudarabah based Open Market Operation for the 7 and 14-day tenors. The central bank did not receive any bid for the 14-day tenor while 3 quotes were received for 7-day tenor offering Rs 218 billion at rate of return ranging between 11.01 to 11.06%. SBP accepted Rs 173 billion against two bids at 11.05% rate of return.
