Power hungry opponents foreseeing electoral defeat: PM

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz
Sharif on Friday said owing to the government’s ongoing
development programme, his power hungry opponents were foreseeing their defeat in the next general election.

“These people want me to dissipate my energies on
responding to such false allegations instead of focussing on the progress and development of the country,” the Prime Minister said while addressing the nation on radio and television.

Nawaz Sharif said his vision was progress, prosperity
and a bright Pakistan.

Govt believes in good governance, transparency: PM

ISLAMABAD, April 22 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz
Sharif on Friday said his government believed in good
governance, transparency and an end to corruption.
Addressing the nation on radio and television, the Prime
Minister said the international organizations had also
acknowledged the good governance of their government.

He said the rule of law, transparent government and
moral responsibility were rooted in the supremacy of democracy and Constitution.

Unregistered Afghans refugees to be enrolled soon: SAFRON Minister

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP): Federal Minister for States and
Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Abdul Qadir Baloch Friday said that
registration process for unregistered Afghans refugees would be
started within three weeks.

Addressing a joint press conference with Afghan counterpart
Syed Hussain Almi Balkhi, Qadir Baloch said that the government would take stern action against those refugees who would not register themselves.

The minister said that after taking serious steps by
Afghans government, Pakistan would review the extension of
repatriation date for six month in next meeting of the Cabinet.
Qadir Baloch assured that he would request the Prime Minister
for extending Proof of Registration Card (PoR) for two years.

Army gives books to 3000 students in Kohlu

QUETTA, April 22 (APP): Pakistan Army has distributed free of charge syllabus books among 3,000 students of 15 schools in Kohlu district and spent Rs 6 million in this regard.

Officials of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, here on Friday that under the Pak Army project of Chamalang Balochistan Education Program, Pak Army/41 Division provided free of charge syllabus books to 3,000 male and female students of Kohlu district, of which expenditures were incurred by the Army.

They added that those books were given during April 11 to 15, on the occasion of commencement of new academic year at state run schools.
Ceremonies for distribution of books were held at 15 schools in this regard which were attended by the Army officers, political and tribal elders, teachers and students.

Media in Pakistan free even more than developed countries: PM

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz
Sharif on Friday said Pakistani media was free even more
than developed countries.

Addressing the nation on radio and television, the Prime
Minister said media in Pakistan gained freedom from the
shackles of the dictatorship after a long struggle.

He, however, added that some of the media men also fell
prey to allegations and requested them to first put themselves at his place before publishing or airing any allegation against any citizen.
He said the commission was yet to be formed and
proceedings were yet to start but some people have already given their verdict.

PNCA to organize two-week drama training workshop from April 25

ISLAMABAD, April 22 (APP): Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA), Repertary Theatre will organize a two weeks drama training workshop from April 25 to May 10.

The workshop would be conducted by Salma Dilawar Mir. A large number of students from different universities of all over the country will participate in the workshop.

The aspirant youth interested in acting, stage and drama art can participate in the workshop, an official of PNCA told APP.

Three-day ‘National Book Festival’ starts

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP): Three-day National Book Festival organized by National Book Foundation ministry of National History and Literary Heritage started here at Pak-China Friendship Center on Friday.

The event was arranged in connection with the annual National Book Day, observed across the country on April 22 with an aim to promote the book reading culture among the people particularly youth.

Advisor to Prime Minister on National History and literary Heritage Division, Irfan Siddique speaking on the occasion said that the three-day event would promote books reading culture among the people particularly youth.

Dr Sardar Sooran Singh shot dead by unknown gunman in Buner

PESHAWAR April 22 (APP): Special Assistant to Chief Minister
KP on Minority Affairs and Member Provincial Assembly belonging to
PTI Dr. Sardar Sooran Singh was gunned down by unknown assailant near his home in District Buner, police told APP by phone.

He was on his way back on foot after routine walk when the
gunmen opened fire at him and shot him dead near his home in Pir Baba area, District police official said. He was immediately shifted to Pir Baba Hospital but he succumbed to the injuries on the way, police said.

The initial postmortem reports stated that he received only
one bullet in his head. Police said that he had no guard at the
time of attack. He had sent his bodyguard for some work to
Peshawar today.

Pak-India hockey matches in May

ISLAMABAD, April 22 (APP): The hockey fans around the globe have something to cheer about as they don’t have to wait too much to see Pakistan-India players in action, as the United Kingdom-based Slough hockey club have organized three-matches against both the arch-rivals in May.

Talking to APP, Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Secretary, Shahbaz Ahmed said Slough hockey club Chairman Harjit Sandhu is organizing the matches among the Pak-India veterans players.

“They have laid a new astro-turf in their club and these matches are part of the inauguration,” he said.

Two Pakistani coaches to attend clinic in China

ISLAMABAD, April 22 (APP): Two Pakistani coaches will attend the baseball coaching clinic scheduled to be held in Nanjing, China, from April 30 to May 4.

According to Syed Khawar Shah President Pakistan Baseball Federation and Executive Director West Asia Baseball Federation, the Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) with the cooperation of Major League Baseball (MLB) is holding the baseball coach clinic.

He said BFA had invited two Pakistani baseball coaches to attend the clinic in China.
