NA passes Delimitation of Constituencies (Amendment) Bill

ISLAMABAD, May 12 (APP): The National Assembly on Thursday passed the Delimitation of Constituencies (Amendment) Bill, 2015 as passed by the Senate with amendments with 109 votes.

State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab piloted the bill
to further amend the Delimitation of Constituencies Act, 1974 [Delimitation of Constituencies (Amendment) Bill, 2015] in the House.

New section 3A delimitation of constituencies for local government
elections was inserted in the Act. It says, The commission shall delimit territorial constituencies for elections to the local governments in accordance with the provisions of the local government Act and the rules made there under of each province.

Committee of Whole discusses mode of Senate elections

ISLAMABAD, May 12 (APP): Senate Committee of the Whole met here on Thursday and discussed mode of Senate elections.

Chairman Senate, Mian Raza Rabbani chaired the meeting and 39 Senators participated in the discussion.

Upper House has transformed itself into a committee of the Whole to discuss mode of elections for members of the Senate, pros and cons of single transferable voting system, alternates and poll reforms.

ONBOARD PM’s AIRCRAFT, May 12 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Thursday said there was no justification for the Opposition to raise hue and cry after his letter to the Chief Justice to form a Commission and probe the Panama Paper issue.

“Few politicians are behaving like a Commission within themselves and are giving self-verdicts based on allegations and negativity,” the Prime Minister told media persons on his way back home from Tajikistan, where he attended the launching ceremony of CASA-1000 project.

The prime minister said he was earnestly awaiting the formation of judicial commission on Panama Leaks so that the nation could get a clear picture.

COAS confirms death sentences awarded to 5 terrorists in Safora carnage

RAWALPINDI, May 12 (APP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Thursday confirmed the death sentences, awarded to five hardcore terrorists.

According to ISPR, death sentences were awarded to those who perpetrated Safora Chowrangi bus attack and were also involved in Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast near Saleh Masjid Karachi, killing of a social worker Miss Sabeen Mahmud and attacks on Law Enforcement Agencies.

These convicts were tried by Military Courts.

Saudi Arabia hands over 200 tons of dates to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, May 12 (APP):The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Thursday handed over 200 tons of dates to the government of Pakistan.

Saudi Ambassador Abdullah Al Zahrani on behalf of his government handed over the dates to Additional Secretary of Cabinet Secretariat Amir Tariq Zaman here in a simple ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, the envoy said “This is the gift from the government of Saudi Arabia for the Pakistani brethren.”

Close identity of views hallmark of Pak-China ties: Chairman NAB

ISLAMABAD, May 12 (APP): The anti-corruption work would also
be given importance to curb corruption in under process development
projects between Pakistan and China, Chairman, National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Qamar Zaman Chaudhry said on Thursday.

He was talking to Prof Cao Jianming, President of  International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) and Prosecutor General of China, who called on him at Tianging, China, says a message
received here.

Both personalities discussed matters of mutual interest. Chairman NAB said Pakistan and China were time-tested and all weather friends as close identity of views and mutual interests remained hallmark of bilateral ties.

Cricket won’t improve until domestic structure is fixed: Waqar Younis

ISLAMABAD, May 12 (APP): Former Head Coach Waqar Younis feels that Pakistan cricket would not improve unless and until stern steps are taken to fix the domestic cricket.

Waqar, who had resigned as Pakistan’s coach three months before his
contract was going to end on June 30, said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) needs to improve domestic cricket first.

“I will have been pleased if progress was made on my recommendations,” he said while talking to a private news channel.

Chinese Film Festival to start from tomorrow at PNCA

ISLAMABAD, May 12 (APP): Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) would organize a three-day Chinese Film Festival in collaboration with Embassy of China from Friday in line with the 65th Pak-China Friendship anniversary.

“Citizens will have a chance to learn more about culture and film industry of China film, while enjoying”, an official of PNCA told APP.

He said that it would be the part of on-going efforts of promoting bilateral relationship between the people of both the friendly countries through common cultural heritage and history.

Zafar Ullah Khan visits NBF head office

ISLAMABAD, May 12 (APP): Advisor to the Prime Minister and State Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Barrister Zafar Ullah Khan on Thursday visited National Book Foundation (NBF) head office here on Thursday.

During visit, he took keen interest in various schemes of NBF including National Book Museum, National Book Park, Nizami Ganjavi Conner, My Book Shelf, Single Stone Book, Book Wall Clock and NBF Book Shop.

He said that NBF Readers Club Scheme is very useful and it is playing a vital role in educational activities and book promotion culture in the country.

PEMRA holds meeting with stakeholders to finalize cable network digitalization

ISLAMABAD, May 12 (APP): A meeting with Pakistan Broadcasters Association and Cable Operators was convened at Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Regional Office, Karachi for discussing roadmap on digitalization of Cable TV Networks in Pakistan.

The matter was discussed in detail and all the stakeholders presented their point of view, said a press release issued Thursday.

It was further decided that in order to finalize the roadmap, another session will be held on May, 27 and 28 at PEMRA Headquarters Islamabad.
