ISLAMABAD, Apr 17 (APP): Associated mainly with Spring season, the residents of otherwise “beautiful” Islamabad are in the full grip these days of a familiar nemesis—the ever-Increasing pollen-cum-dust allergy.

Consequently, life is difficult to live not just for those afflicted and also for public at large as air-borne diseases are at their peak.

Once few in numbers, the pollen and dust allergy victims are increasing day by day, while the authorities concerned are not adopting measures on emergency basis to eradicate this source of irritation.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 17 (APP): Airports of a country generally portray its reflection to the world and a lot is done across the globe to equip them with state-of-the-art facilities in order to facilitate both local and foreign passengers.

Where the formation of New National Aviation Policy 2015, after 15 years, goes to the credit of the incumbent Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, it has also done a lot to streamline the airports of the country.

Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIAP) of the federal capital speaks well of the endeavors of the government in this regard as the overall management and facilities at the airport have improved considerably during the past three years.

Pakistan Cricket Cup from Tuesday

FAISALABAD, April 17 (APP): One-day matches of Pakistan Cricket Cup will start at Iqbal Stadium here from Tuesday, April 19, under the aegis of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Naveed Nazir, caretaker of Iqbal Stadium said here on Sunday that five teams from all the four provinces and federation would participate in the tournament which would continue up to May 1.

He said that all arrangements had been finalized to hold the cricket tournament in a most befitting manner and in this regard match tickets were available for cricket lovers at the rate of Rs 100 and Rs 200.

CAMBRIDGE (Massachusetts) April 17 (APP): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN, Dr. Maleeha Lodhi, said at a Pakistani students forum at Harvard University that it was important to create a culture of optimism in the country to empower it to meet its various challenges.

Speaking at the Harvard Pakistan Forum, she said that at a time when the country was making gains on the security and economic fronts the remaining challenges would best be met by an expression of national self confidence and self belief.”And this means adopting a positive outlook”, she added.

Although Ambassador Lodhi’s talk was about Pakistan’s role in international politics, she spoke at length about domestic issues particularly the demographic transition which, if managed well by investing in education, would enable the country to reap a demographic dividend.

WASHINGTON, April 17 (APP): The Executive Vice President of the
International Finance Commission (IFC), Philippe Houerou praised economic policies and strict financial discipline of the Pakistan government that has brought about a turnaround in the country’s economy.

In a meeting with the Pakistani delegation, led by Finance Secretary Dr. Waqar Masood Khan who called on him, the IFC’s Vice President appreciated the improvement in macro indicators and growth rates.

Attributing the turnaround to the sound economic policies and strict financial discipline of the government, Mr. Houerou assured all support from IFC in the financial and energy sectors. He also discussed with the delegation the issuance of Rupee Bonds in Pakistan.

Pakistan Embassy in US launches forum for public diplomacy on national interests

WASHINGTON, April 17 (APP): A spokesman of the Pakistan Embassy in Washington rejected as baseless media reports about a ministerial level meeting between Pakistan and Panama on the sidelines of ongoing Spring Meetings of IMF and the World Bank.

In a special event organized by United States Department of State on the subject of Global Connect Initiative on Friday, the Pakistani delegate happened to sit next to the Panamanian delegate because of alphabetical order.

“The close proximity afforded the opportunity of a chance encounter, which was limited to exchange of pleasantries since the attention of both delegates was primarily focused on proceedings of the session,” the spokesman said.

MASHIKI, Japan, April 17, (APP/AFP): Rescuers were racing against the weather and the threat of more landslides Sunday to reach people still trapped by two big earthquakes that hit southern Japan.

At last 41 people are known to have died in the double disaster, with at least six still missing—feared buried in shattered houses or under torrents of mud.

Heavy rain was lashing the area around Kumamoto, where officials have warned quake-loosened hillsides could be at risk of collapse as aftershocks continued to roil the ground.

NAP to continue till elimination of last terrorist: President

KAKUL, April 16 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain Saturday said the National Action Plan would continue till the elimination of the last terrorist to ensure peace not only within the country but also in the region.

Addressing the 134th Long Course Passing Out parade here at the Pakistan Military Academy the President paid rich tributes to the sacrifices of the country’s armed forces who were successfully countering the terrorists through Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif also attended the passing out parade.  The President said the national political leadership unanimously agreed on the National Action Plan to eliminate extremism and terrorism from the country.
