US-based Kashmiri forum asks world to help suppressed Kashmiri people

0

WASHINGTON, Feb.6 (APP):The US-based World Kashmir Forum urged the world community on the Kashmir Solidarity Day to fulfill its decades-old promise and help the innocent Kashmiri people being brutally suppressed by the Indian occupation forces in the held-valley.
The gathering was organized to mark the day around the world, observed every year to show solidarity with the struggling Kashmiri peolple. The participants applauded the widespread and enthusiastic support in the United States and around the world for the Kashmiri self-determination cause.
The people of Kashmir are determined to present their peaceful objectives to the international community. Their objective is to seek a peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict through dialogue, with the participation of all parties including India Pakistan and representatives of Kashmir, said Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, a prominent Kashmiri leader and Secretary General of the Forum.
Dr. Fai said it was totally incomprehensible as to why the world powers do not want the Kashmiri participation in the talks when the right to choose the destiny of 22 million people was given by the UN Security Council to the inhabitants of the territory and not to the leadership in New Delhi or Islamabad.
Any attempt to strike a deal between any two parties without associating the third, will always lead us to a barren land. So, the future negotiations must be tripartite between all parties concerned, Fai added.
He said that potential elements of a peaceful solution have been in place for nearly 70 years and the UN resolutions clearly lay out that the people of Kashmir have the right, and should be provided the opportunity to decide the status of their land.
This, he added, were embodied in agreements and resolutions and were not only committed by the governments of India and Pakistan, but the UN itself.
While alternative modalities can be subject of negotiations, the principle has no substitute as the basis for an enduring settlement, “the principle that the wishes and aspirations of the people of Kashmir must be ascertained in seeking any final settlement,” Fai emphasized.
Professor Imtiaz Khan, President, Kashmiri American Council said that the truth is that the people of Kashmir themselves have always been hostile to the presence of India’s troops on their soil and have resisted to such oppression. He said over 100,000 Kashmiris have died within the past 28 years alone.
Dr. M. A Dhar said that there was a way to a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue lies in tripartite negotiations between India, Pakistan and the All Parties Hurriyet Conference.
He said that it was absolutely necessary to have third party mediation because history shows that bilateral arrangements have never worked out as India is always insincere.
Other Kashmiri leaders, who spoke on the occasion included Raja Liaqat Kiyani, Iqbal Chand Doddy, Sardar Zulfiqar Roshan Khan, Khalid Fahee, Sardar Aftab Rosan Khan, Mohammad Amer, Murtaza Mohammad and Sardar Zubair.
All the speakers condemned the ongoing Indian atrocities in the occupied valley and said that the world community has an obligation to stop Indian forces from committed unspeakable brutalities on the innocent Kashmiri people, including women and children.
They urged the United States to persuade India and Pakistan to initiate a meaningful dialogue between all parties concerned to settle the dispute to the satisfaction of the people of Kashmir. APP/zh

PCB audit should take place: Khurshid Shah

0

LAHORE, Feb 06 (APP):Opposition leader in National Assembly Syed Khrushid Shah has called for carrying out the audit of
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in order to ascertain how funds of billions of rupees are being spent.
“There is dire need to probe the funds of the PCB which is a rich organisation as resources are being spent on some major
cities including Lahore, whereas the PCB is not spending money on development of the game in the far-flung areas of the country,”
he said this while talking to the media after inaugurating the Pakistan Women Hockey League here on Tuesday at the National
Hockey Stadium.
He said that if sports and overall environment in the country are on the right track then everything in the country can be put
in order.
Khurashid Shah stressed the need to keep politics away from sports and cited involvement of politics as the key factor in
the overall decline of sports in the country.
“It is quite unfortunate that there is deep-rooted involvement of politics in country’s sports due to which our sports are at
constant decline,” he said adding “Funds should be pumped in to make the sports institutions financially viable and to arrest the
decline in sports, the way Pakistan People’s Party did when it was in power.”
The opposition leader said every institution should work within its domain as undue interference in the working of an institution
results in creating problems which hamper the pace of progress.
He said that it was a heartening sign that women hockey is on the rise as regular hockey activities are being held from the platform
of the Pakistan Hockey Federation to motivate womenfolk to take up hockey as a sport.
“I am very much delighted to see that our country is rich in women hockey talent and with hard work and commitment and training
under the watchful eyes of experienced coaches, our women hockey team can emerge as a force to reckon with at the international
level,” he said.
