FAISALABAD, Feb 16 (APP): Federal Minister for Communication Dr Hafiz Abdul Kareem Friday said that mega development projects completed by the present government had started a new era of progress and prosperity in addition to creating new job opportunities for the youth.
Reviewing the development work on Gojrah-Shorkot section of M-4 near Gojrah interchange, he said that the government had initiated mega projects of socio-economic importance immediately after coming into power.
He said that unmatched development works had been completed and now people were harvesting its benefits in the form of enhanced economic activity due to safe, secure and reliable means of communication.
He said that there were only 600 kilometers of motorways before PML-N government while the length of these motorways had now been jumped to 1,800 kilometers.
The minister said that Chinese were also surprised over speed of work. He told that motorway from Lahore to Kot Abdul Hakim had been completed in the shortest possible time which was an indicative of the commitment of the government to provide reliable network of motorways.
He said that Gojra-Shorkot section of motorway M-4 would also be completed by the end of April this year. He added that: “We are completing these projects within minimum possible time without compromising on quality of work”.
He said that these projects were of international standard and could be compared with any world class motorway.
Hafiz Abdul Kareem said: “We will make a clean sweep in the next general elections only because of our excellent performance”. He appreciated engineers and workers of the National Highway Authority who are working day and night to make Pakistan a developed country of the region.
Earlier, briefing was given to the minister about progress on this section of M-4. Later, he himself reviewed the development work.
Meanwhile, Hafiz Abdul Kareem also visited the residence of renowned social and business personality Hafiz Muhammad Shafiq Kashif and condoled the sad demise of his father.

NA speaker directs submitting one year’s PIA baggage pilferage report
ISLAMABAD, Feb 16 (APP):Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq Friday directed the aviation division to submit the details of pilferage or stealing of baggage from different flights of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) during last year.
Expressing concerns over the disappearance of a PIA aero plane, the speaker told National Assembly that the report of disappearance of the plane has been submitted by the Aviation Division to him. The same is being distributed to the members for deciding the fate of the responsible of the disappearance of the plane.
He said PIA has sold engines worth over one million dollars. The disappearance of a plane was criminal offence. One of the responsible of the disappearance has been repatriated to his parent department. He urged MNAs to suggest action against the responsible of causing losses to national exchequer.
Earlier, the speaker barred the entry of Parliamentary Secretary Robina Khursheed Alam in National Assembly Hall for one day. She did not appear to answer the question of Members in the National Assembly during Question Hour.
Speaker said he will write a letter to Prime Minister to direct ministers, state ministers and parliamentary secretaries for answering the questions of parliamentarians and ensuring their presence .
Govt to assist ‘ABAD’ in providing houses to poor: Tariq
ISLAMABAD, Feb 16 (APP):Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry Friday said the government would extend all kind of assistance to Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) in constructing housing units for middle and lower-middle classes at affordable rates.
Addressing an event organized by the ABAD here he said, “I assure on behalf of the government that we will provide all kind of assistance and facilities to the association for providing houses to middle and lower-middle classes on cheaper rates in the federal capital.”
The ABAD has more than 800 leading construction companies in its fold and its most of offices are equipped with state-of-the-art planning systems, cost control, project management and the latest construction techniques to minimize construction costs.
He said that construction industry was the third largest industry in the country and it played a vital role in development of socio-economy of the country.
The minister said the country’s infrastructure, sanctuary and employment were directly related to the construction sector. The construction sector, he said, played an important role in generating income in both formal and informal sectors.
He said that government was also considering revisiting the by-laws in the federal capital to facilitate and attract more investors in Islamabad.
He said the government was also revising the lay out plan of the Islamabad keeping in view the present situation of the city.
“Lay out plan prepared in 1960 requires revisit after 57 years keeping in view present situation of the city,” he said.
Chairman of the BAAD Arif Yousuf Jeewa said “Construction sector plays a key role in growing and mature economies by providing employment at a large level, by raising the living standards of the people.”
He said that contribution of construction industry towards the global GDP revolves around one-tenth of the total amount.
He said the ABAD would arrange international expo in Islamabad on April 4 and 6 to bring together all construction related stakeholders on one platform.
“ABAD international EXPO 2018 Islamabad is the largest platform available for professionals related to construction along with Allied industries,” he added.

Any misadventure by India to be given befitting response: Khurram
ISLAMABAD, Feb 16 (APP):Minister for Defence Engineer Khurram Dastagir Khan on Friday said that any misadventure by India would be given befitting response.
India was establishing cantonments and air-bases along the line of control (LoC), he said while talking to a private news channel.
Pakistan Armed forces were fully capable to defend the mother land, he said India was working on “cold start doctrine”.
He said that India had lost the opportunity of dialogue with Pakistan. In 2017, India had made ceasefire violations along LoC, he added.
Since 2015, Pakistan had intensified activities to wipe out the terrorism from this region. Operation Radul Fasaad was also continuing unabatedly, he added.
To a question he said “we wanted to provide complete peace to the next generation of Pakistan.”
To another question he said we have expressed reservation over increasing strategic partnership of US with India.
The Minister said that Pakistan had taken serious steps to flush out terrorism.
He appreciated China for helping Pakistan in elimination of terrorism, and power loadshedding.
Replying to a question he said that all the institutions should work under their domain.
Khurram Dastagir said that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), would continue work for sanctity of vote in the country.
Shipping activity at Port Qasim
KARACHI, Feb 16 (APP):Seven ships, Suez Canal, Prosper, Tucapel, Mu-Main Song, BBC Nile, Star Sirius and Tiamat Gas carrying Containers, General Cargo, Canola Seeds and LPG took berths at Qasim International Container Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal, Grain & Fertilizer Terminal and Sui Southern Gas Terminal respectively during last 24 hours, said a report issued by Port Qasim Authority (PQA) on Friday.
Meanwhile four more ships Navg-8 Universe, CCNI Arauco, Petali Lady and Simaisma carrying Chemicals, Containers, Diesel oil and LNG also arrived at outer anchorage of Port Qasim during last 24 hours.
Sixty five percent berth occupancy was observed at the port on Thursday where a total of eleven ships namely, Suez Canal,
Prosper, Tucapel, Mu-Main Song, BBC Nile, Celsius Miami, Spring Cosmos, Star Sirius, Tiamat Gas, Rastanura and Lion-M are currently occupying berths to load/offload Containers, Chemicals, General Cargo, Coal, Canola Seeds, LPG, Palm oil and Furnace oil.
A cargo volume of 121,508 tonnes, comprising 98,290 tonnes import cargo and 23,218 tonnes export cargo inclusive of containerized cargo carried in 2,985 Containers (TEUs), (1,763 TEUs imports and 1,222 TEUs exports) was handled at the port.
Container Vessel Prosper and Edible oil carrier Rastanura sailed out to sea on Friday morning, while two Container ships, Suez Canal and Prosper, and a Chemicals carrier Celsius Miami, an oil tanker Lion-M and a Gas carrier Tiamat Gas are expected to sail on same day.
Five ships, CCNI Arauco, Hugo Schulte, Navig-8 Universe, Able Sailor and Simaisma carrying Containers, Chemicals, Palm oil
and LNG are expected to take berths at QICT, EVTL, LCT and EETL respectively on Friday.
While three more Container ships, GSL Tianjin, Libra and Cape
Mayor are due to arrive at PQ on Saturday.
Over 500 students, faculty members of leading institutions spend day with army
RAWALPINDI, Feb 16 (APP):Over 500 students and faculty members from leading educational institutes of Multan spent a day with army at Multan Garrison.
The event was aimed at familiarising students about functioning of Pakistan Army and its capabilities, an Inter-Services Public Relations statement issued here on Friday said.
The participants conducted live firing with small arms, witnessed weapons, equipment display. The students thanked Pakistan Army for the awareness.
Federal government cooperating with Sindh police to arrest Rao Anwar: Talal
ISLAMABAD, Feb 16 (APP):State Minister for Interior talal chaudhry Friday said the federal government was cooperating with Sindh police regarding arrest of Rao Anwar, a senior superintendent police (SSP) of Malir, Karachi.
The ministry of interior had given directives to concerned authorities for providing assistance to the provincial police to apprehend SSP Rao Anwar.
Talking to a private news channel, he said officers of the federal ministry of interior had stopped Rao Anwar for skipping from the air port.
The minister said federal government could help the provinces but it could not interviene in their matters directly.
Severe hepatitis-c leads to liver failure: Dr.Nadeem Anwar
HYDERABAD, Feb 16 (APP):Eminent physician & cardiologist of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro, Dr. Nadeem Anwar Khan said it was expected that three million patients in Pakistan were suffering from severe progressive hepatitis-C, which leads to liver failure.
He said that there was also an alarmingly high incidence of liver cancer in Pakistan and it was expected to be the most common cancer in the country.
Talking to APP here on Friday, he said that awareness to masses about precautionary measures against disease could reduce the numbers of hepatitis patients in the country in general and in Sindh particularly where the disease is spreading with rapid pace mainly in rural parts.
He said controlling of diseases is essential therefore maximum awareness should be created among the people against these diseases. He urged the people to follow principle of “prevention is better than cure” for protecting themselves from diseases.
He said that government is spending billions of rupees on the treatment of hepatitis patients despite its limited resources. However, creating awareness among the masses can help eradicate the increasing number of patients for which media particularly electronic media can play an important role in this regard,
added.
Dr. Nadeem Anwar Khan expressed grave concern over quack doctors, who he said that involved in causing Hepatitis with
wrong diagnosis and prescription and termed it punishable offence on charge of playing with the live of the people.
He said that it because of wrong treatment that number of the cases of Hepatitis-D has been increased in the province. During the survey, the number of maximum cases of Hepatitis-B has been found in upper Sindh while the rate of Hepatitis-C is high in lower Sindh, he disclosed that there are five main types of viral hepatitis
A, B, C, D and E. Symptoms of the liver problem can include jaundice, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and fever, he said.
Hepatitis E is common in Pakistan, China and other parts of the world.
Dr.Nadeem Anwar Khan said that hepatitis B and C are life-threatening but curable the citizens are required to be informed about the diseases in the country.
He added that hepatitis largely remains unknown as a health threat in much of the world. It is more prevalent particularly in the third world including Pakistan that makes it more alarming. A stringent method should be adopted to address the ‘silent killer’ of viral hepatitis, he said.
Viral hepatitis is also the leading cause of liver cancer. Liver cancer is the second biggest cancer killer and symptoms of viral hepatitis often go unnoticed. Therefore anyone who might think they may have been exposed should get tested, Dr. Nadeem Anwar Khan said.
Dr.Nadeem said that in the past, medical science was aware about only two types of this ailment, Hepatitis A and B. Now more
dangerous types of this disease D, E and G have been recovered. Hepatitis B, C and D are more dangerous but they cannot harm without their combination with Hepatitis B.
He said that there was a need to educate media men, religious scholars, elected representatives and health workers about these problems.
Dr. Nadeem Anwar Khan underlined the need of launching mass awareness campaign at large scale so that the people could be aware of reason, which causing different kinds of hepatitis disease.
