SECP, FBR launch one-window facility for company and NTN registration

ISLAMABAD, Mar 14 (APP):The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have launched a one-window facility for company and national tax number (NTN) registration .
A statement issued by the SECP here Wednesday said that the facility was provided as part of doing business reforms agenda.
SECP Chairman Zafar Abdullah and Khawaja Adnan Zahir, Member (IT) FBR, jointly inaugurated the system during the launch ceremony held on Wednesday at the SECP’s head office which was attended by senior officials of SECP, FBR, BOI and PRAL.
Zafar Abdullah congratulated the teams of SECP, FBR and PRAL on putting in exhaustive efforts to develop the system.
The SECP has undertaken a host of reform measures, which have resulted in a robust corporate growth in the country, leading to formalization of the business sector and documentation of economy, he added.
Khawaja Adnan Zahir said that the FBR was pleased to collaborate with SECP to provide conducive environment for doing business in Pakistan.
This is the first instance of government-to-government technical integration at the process level, he added.
“The creation of a cross-institution single process of registration of a company is the first step and the efforts should be continued to include more organizations. A lot more can be achieved if government organization work in such close coordination”, he added.
Ms. Fareena Mazhar, Executive Director General, Board of Investment (BOI) lauded the efforts of the SECP and FBR for their doing business reforms and stressed that these reforms would not only help the local entrepreneurs but would also serve as an attraction for foreign investors.
Through this facility, the entrepreneur will login to the SECP online portal eServices, get the company registered with the SECP and will receive the NTN automatically at company’s email address.
The facility has been launched to simplify procedures for business registration, to eliminate the hassle of visiting various government agencies and to ensure an expeditious service delivery by integrating the registration procedures of SECP and FBR.
This facility would have favourable implications for investment promotion to attract investors from within and outside the country, and contribute to documentation of the economy.
It is also likely to achieve higher ranking in the World Bank’s starting-a-business and the composite doing business indicator.

Rs 210 mln approved for arrangements in view of PSL Final match

KARACHI, Mar 14 (APP):Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah
has approved Rs 210 million for security and beautification of the
city in connection with the arrangements for the final match of
Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed KMC,
Karachi administration to make the city neat and clean and beautify it
with illumination and greenery, said a statement on Wednesday.
He has approved Rs 210 million grant-in-aid which includes Rs 75
million for transport arrangements, rehabilitation and restoration of
parking areas and security arrangements. These funds would be utilized
by DIG South, Commissioner Karachi.
The remaining amount of Rs 135 million would be utilized for
civic works, hiring of generators, horticulture, illumination and
beautification of routes and parking areas.
These funds would be utilized by KMC with the approval of Mayor
Karachi.

Pakistan continues its winning streak in Jr Davis Cup

ISLAMABAD, Mar 14 (APP):Pakistan continued its winning streak by beating Kuwait 3-0 in the in the Junior Davis Cup in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
In the previous ties, Pakistani team had beaten both Malaysia and Bhutan 3-0, respectively, said a press release issued here.

Shoe, ink hurling incidents just to hinder election campaign of PML-N: Asif

ISLAMABAD, Mar 14 (APP):Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Wednesday said shoe and ink hurling incidents were just to hinder election campaign started by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).
The level of awareness among people was augmenting, he said while talking to a private news channel.
These tactics might be the effort to impede election campaign, he said, adding nobody could stop us from meeting public.
It was not possible to keep alive on political grounds sans the support of people, he said.
Commenting on recent Senate elections, he said everybody knows how many number of vote Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf had achieved in Balochistan. About Horse-trading issue, he said court had taken notice in this regard.
Replying to a question, he said thrice democratically elected government of Nawaz Sharif was demolished.
Imran and Zardari were feared about the popularity of Nawaz Sharif who served people thrice as prime minister of Pakistan.
He said Nawaz Sharif had repeatedly highlighted the significance of opinion of people and sanctity of vote.
People were well aware about what happened in Senate elections, he added. The people had supported the PML-N in Lodhran, Chakwal and other elections, the FM said.
The objective of Shahbaz Sharif and Nawaz Sharif was same, he said adding the chief minister Punjab had endorsed the narrative of his elder brother.
To another question about India’s violations, he said India had been doing ceasefire violations on line of control (LoC) and working boundary.
In the present circumstances, we were not expecting improvement in the relations between the two sides, he added.

Spain keen to boost mutual trade ties with Pakistan: ambassador

SIALKOT, Mar 14 (APP)::Ambassador of Spain in Pakistan
Mr Carlos Morales on Wednesday said Spain was much keen to
boost mutual trade ties with Pakistan, pledging to make
efforts to remove hurdles from the way of promoting
the mutual trade between the both countries.
He said this while addressing a meeting held at the
Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here, the
ambassador said that the time was high to do more for further
increasing mutual trade ties between Pakistan and Spain.
SCCI President Zahid Latif Malik, SVP Abdul Waheed and
VP Abid Ahmed Khawaja presided over the meeting while other senior officials of the Spanish Embassy also attended the meeting.
The ambassador said that the Spain was much keen to
develop strong business-to-business contacts with Pakistan
besides focusing on promoting the SMEs in Pakistan on
modern lines and paving the ways to find out opportunities
to advanced technology transfer to Pakistan from Spain.
Mr Carlos Morales also assured of making all-out
sincere efforts to increase the mutual trade volume
in favour of Pakistan as well.
He said that B2B contacts could help boost the mutual
trade ties between Pakistan and Spain, adding that Spain
was ready to make mutual strenuous efforts for this purpose.
The ambassador invited Sialkot exporters to divert
their business activities to Spain, saying that Sialkot
exporters were much aware of international quality standards
and they also had great potential to explore and capture
international trade markets of Spain and the EU countries
through Spain as well by exporting their diversified traditional
and non-traditional export products.
He said that Spain was the second country in the world
who arranged most trade exhibition and seminars in his country.
The ambassador assured exporters their easy access to
international Spanish trade markets and even the EU trade
markets through Spain as well. He also asked Sialkot exporters
to participate in the international trade fairs and
exhibitions to be held in Spain as well.
SCCI President Zahid Latif Malik said that Sialkot
exporters had a great potential to explore and capture
international trade markets of Spain by exporting their
worldclass traditional and non-traditional export products.
For improving bilateral trade, Sialkot exporters suggested
that exchange of trade delegations and one-to-one meetings
of businessmen of both sides may be arranged, he added.
On this occasion, Sialkot exporters said that Spain had
always been a close partner of Pakistan in terms of
bilateral trade and socio-economic development.
“There is an urgent need for diversification of exports
as Pakistan and Spain have tremendous potential for
business communities at the both sides”, they added.
“We firmly believe that with Spanish technology and Pakistani craftsmanship, we could do wonders in the international
markets”, the exporters hoped.

President hopes parliament would legislate for welfare of masses

ISLAMABAD, Mar 14 (APP):President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday expressed the hope that the Parliamentarians would focus on the legislation for the welfare of masses so as to enhance the trust of the people on the Parliament.
He was talking to the newly elected Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani who called on him here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. President Mamnoon said the Chairman Senate has a very important role in ensuring supremacy of the Parliament.
He congratulated Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani on his election as the Chairman Senate, and underlined that Parliament was the true representative of the people and gained strength from strong democracy.
The Chairmen Senate expressed the confidence that he would discharge his official responsibilities to the best of his abilities.

PSL final tickets go on sale

LAHORE, Mar 14 (APP):The wait if finally over and the tickets of the Pakistan Super League final being played on March 25 at Karachi go on sale from tomorrow, (Thursday) across the country.
“Tickets will be available at designated branches of a courier company from Thursday morning and can also be bought on line from midnight, tonight “, said a spokesman of Pakistan Cricket Board while talking to APP here on Wednesday.
Lahore will be hosting two play off of the mega event with Karachi holding the finale which will ensure the return of international cricket in the port city.
To a question he said tickets of fifteen enclosures of the stadium are available at different prices. The highest value ticket is of Rs 12000 followed by Rs 8000 and Rs 4000 tickets. The lowest price ticket is Rs 1000.
He said the tickets will be sold under a transparent formula and each buyer by producing his national identity card can buy maximum five tickets.
“The one line sale is to facilitate the people as this practice was also done in the previous two editions of the PSL “,he said adding “We are expecting full house on the final as well as in the semi finals as people are eagerly awaiting the sale of tickets”.
The spokesman said no free or complimentary tickets will be issued to anyone as announced by the Chairman, Pakistan
Cricket Board, Najam Sethi recently.
“PCB is developing a new culture that everyone should buy a ticket to watch the match instead asking for free or complimentary tickets “, he added.
“The people of Karachi are upbeat ahead of the final as they will be watching a high profile international cricket activity after
nine years “,he said.
He said PCB will be monitoring the sale of the tickets on daily basis for the convenience of the people.

Second Bolan Jeep Rally from March 18

QUETTA, Mar 14 (APP):Second Bolan Jeep Rally (SBJR) would be started from March 18 till 21 at Bibi Nani (Mach) area of Bolan district under Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps (FC).
According to FC spokesman, a large number of motor sporting teams would participate in the Second Bolan Jeep Rally from across the country.
The FC spokesman said the registration is being continued till March 18 for motor sporting teams to take part in competition.
“The Second Bolan Jeep Rally Pakistan Army and Frontier Crops is going to be arranged through cooperation of the Bolan (four by four) Jeep Association”, the spokesman said.
People of area and players applauded the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps for arranging the Second Bolan Jeep Rally in the area.

BoI launched doing business plane to accelerate ranking

ISLAMABAD, Mar 14 (APP):Secretary Board of Investment, Samaira Nazir Siddiqui on Wednesday said that Board of Investment (BOI) in consultation with all stakeholders has launched an accelerated Doing Business Plan to ambitiously implement a set of reforms and improve the country’s doing business ranking.
Addressing three-day Capital Investment Summit and Expo 2018, which was organized by Pakistan Guarantee Export Corporation Limited, she said that Pakistan has a more robust economy, supported by government’s commitment, fundamental reforms and can offer a lot to businesses in terms of trade and investment.
Nazir Siddiqui highlighted that Pakistani capital market has been continuously exhibiting exemplary performance over the last few years.
The recent up-gradation of Pakistan from Frontier Markets to Emerging Markets by Morgan Stanley Capital International is an evidence of the turnaround
The market is experiencing increased activity, performance and improved image in the eyes of the global investors.
She also apprised the investors that Pakistan follows a very liberal investment regime, having no restrictions on remittance of profits and full legal protection to investors.
All sectors of the economy are open to foreign investment; foreign investors can hold 100 percent equity, and the business opening process has been extremely easy, she added.
She stated that Special Economic Zone (SEZs) Act 2012 is the capstone of our Investment Policy.
The fiscal benefits under the SEZ law include an exemption from custom duties and tax holidays for a period of ten years.
With regard to Business environment, Secretary, BOI said that the government of Pakistan was cognizant about the fact that the quality of business environment was a critical policy area for governments to derive economic growth, create jobs and encourage private sector competition.

IAEA DG satisfied at Pakistan’s nuclear safety, security standards

KARACHI, Mar 14 (APP):The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukiya Amano, has said Pakistan is completely implementing IAEA guidelines and ensuring nuclear safety and security standards.
He said this while addressing a seminar here on Wednesday at a hotel, jointly organised by the Centre for International Strategic Studies (CISS) and the Pakistan Institute of International Affairs (PIIA).
Yukiya Amano said that the IAEA appreciates Pakistan’s efforts. He said that 18 hospitals in Pakistan are carrying out treatment of cancer related diseases and it needs to be further extended to the rural areas of the country.
The DG IAEA said that he has visited the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant K-3 and K-4 projects and the advanced technology used their is impressive.
PIIA Chairperson Dr. Masooma Hassan, Director General Security Division of CISS Dr. Zafer Ali, Executive Director CISS Ali Serwar Naqvi and PNIRA Chairman Jamsheed Hashmi also spoke.
