Bench, bar support vital for speedy justice: CJ

PESHAWAR, Apr 19 (APP):Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar Thursday said provision of speedy and inexpensive justice to people was the prime responsibility of bench and bar and reiterated that no injustice and discrimination would be meted out to anyone in dispensation of justice.
Addressing Districts Bars Associations Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he said active support of lawyers would immensely help in quick disposal of cases.
The CJP said justice should be properly weighted, measured and then dispensed, adding one of the major qualities in a good judge was to listen every litigant, pay him proper attention and examine all available records before delivering judgment strictly on merit.
CJP said he can not alone reform the judicial system unless strongly supported by all the stakeholders including members of the bar and judges, adding we have to put our house in order to correct people’s perceptions about
delay in justice.
“We have to support each others practically as mission of judges and lawyers are the same such as provision
of speedy and inexpensive justice to all,” he said.
“Let us be a team as bar and bench are inseparable and underscored the need starting practical work for reforming judiciary,” the CJP remarked. We have to rise and abolish trend of delay in justice, he added.
CJP said a committee has been formed to reduce time period of litigations. Referring to his visit KP’s Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar, the CJP said he saw the suffering of patients in LRH and the same of the case with litigants who was suffering delay in justice.
Justice Saqib Nisar said it was heart-felt desire to seek your support for reforming and revamping the system making it resulted oriented. “Do not disappoint your brother (CJP) in my struggle started for ensuring speedy justice to all,” he said.
The CJP also called for updating outdated and obsolete laws in consonance with present age requirement and said that it was not our duty to change the laws.
“Is bringing amendments and updating laws such as old laws 1861, 1872 and 1908 was the responsibility of Supreme Court, which is certainly not” he said, adding the main duty and functions of Supreme Court were interpretation and enforcement of law.
He said all citizens would be treated accordance to law and constitution and their rights would be fully protected. The CJP appealed for equal contribution from bar members towards his struggle to reform the judiciary and dispense swift justice to all.
The CJP praised former Supreme Court’s Justice Dost Mohammad Khan and respect earned by him during
tenure as Chief Justice, Peshawar High Court.
He recalled various instances when the senior judges attempted to give a proper farewell on retirement of
Justice Dost Muhammad Khan but he refused for personal reasons.
CJP stated that Pashtun are very close to his heart and always respected them. Later, he administered oath
to the newly elected President District Bar Association, Basharat Ahmed. Earlier, CJP Peshawar High Court, Justice Yahya Afridi welcomed CJP.
Earlier, a three member bench of Supreme Court CJP Mr Justice Saqib Nisar, Justice Umar Ata Bandyal and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah heard different cases in Supreme Court Registry at Peshawar. The CJP also visited Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar and met with people, patients and their attendants.
On the occasion, scores of people complained about lack of health facilities in the province biggest teaching
hospital.

Pak, Polish Defence ministers hold one-o-one meeting, discuss to bolster defence ties

RAWALPINDI, Apr 19 (APP):Minister for Defence, Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan held a restricted one-on-one meeting with Polish National Defence Minister, Mariusz Blaszczak.
The minister is visiting Poland on the invitation of Minister for National Defence of Poland, said a statement issued here by Ministry of Defence on Thursday.
On arrival in Poland, he was received by senior Polish military officials and the Ambassador of Pakistan in Warsaw. National anthems of the two countries were played and the Defence Minister was presented with Guard of Honour by a tri-services contingent of the Polish Armed Forces.
The one-on-one meeting between the two was followed by full delegation level talks. The discussions continued over the official lunch hosted by the Polish Defence Minister.
The two sides reviewed the existing defence cooperation between Pakistan and Poland and discussed various ideas to further promote these. They also exchanged views on security situation in their respective regions and important global issues.
While welcoming Khurram Dastgir, the Polish Defence Minister recalled that Karachi hosted around 30,000 Polish refugees during 1942-45. He underlined the importance Poland attached to the relations with Pakistan and his country’s interest in further promotion of theses ties in various areas, including in the field of
defence.
Khurram Dastgir mentioned the role played by Polish pilots in the development of Pakistan Air Force. He particularly highlighted the contribution of Turowicz, who went on to become Air Commodore in Pakistan Air Force and later was instrumental in the setting up of SUPARCO.
The Minister said that the signing of the Defence Cooperation Agreement and the growing defence cooperation were a tribute to the memory of Air Commodore Turowicz. He briefed the Polish side on positive developments in Pakistan including economic growth, democratic consolidation and major success in counter terrorism. He explained in detail Pakistan’s security perspective, its efforts to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan and the wider region.
Mariusz Blaszczak accepted the invitation from the Defence Minister to visit Pakistan
at mutually convenient dates.
Later, Dastgir laid wreath at the tomb of unknown soldier and also visited the Warsaw Uprising
Museum.

Morocco’s Envoy meets Nasser Janjua

ISLAMABAD, Apr 19 (APP):The Ambassador of Morocco, Mohamed Karmoune called on National Security Adviser, Lt. General (Retd)
Nasser Khan Janjua on Thursday and discussed prospects of further improving bilateral relations.
Talking to the Ambassador, Nasser Janjua said Morocco is a great country with rich history and Pakistan attaches great importance to its bilateral ties.
The Envoy said Morocco enjoys close and fraternal relations with Pakistan and is committed to further enhancing cooperation in areas mutually beneficial to each other.
He reinforced that Morocco’s government is keen to strengthen engagements with Pakistan in multi-dimensional spheres including defense, culture, economy, trade and commerce.
Nasser Janjua ensured Pakistan’s support to Morocco in all spheres as a brotherly country.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to enhance cooperation
in all possible areas.

PCJCCI suggests developing Gilgit-Baltistan as Pak-China Tourism Zone

LAHORE, Apr 19 (APP):The Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) has suggested to develop Gilgit-Baltistan as a joint tourism zone for people of Pakistan and China.
PCJCCI President SM Naveed said while addressing a meeting of the PCJCCI here on Thursday which was also attended by a number of senior members of the PCJCCI.
He urged the authorities to lay down a strategy on the development of tourism industry in Gilgit-Baltistan through exploitation of beautiful locations and abundant natural resources available in the region.
Naveed proposed the idea of initiating and welcoming Chinese tourism to Pakistan especially in the region of Gilgit-Baltistan as the area had not only immense beauty but also had so many healthy and useful resources.
“We are eager to take the plunge for the Chinese tourism in Pakistan and make use of the natural revenue in the best way,” he said adding that Gilgit-Baltistan was the cross section of the world’s four famous high altitude mountain ranges, including the Karakoram, Himalayas, Hindu Kush and Pamir.
Not only this, he said that the region also carried the status of holding three of the world’s longest glaciers outside the polar region. Whereas, the environment in Gilgit-Baltistan was also conducive for international level mountaineering and hiking, he said and observed that development of the tourism industry could do wonders for
Pakistan’s economy and also cultivate goodwill for the country globally by carrying out a well-thought tourism plan in the region.

Cotton crop to be cultivated over 2,955 thousand hectares

ISLAMABAD, Apr 19 (APP):Cotton crop to be cultivated over 2,955 thousand hectares of land across the crop growing areas in the country during current sowing season to fulfill the domestic requirements of the commodity as well as for exporting.
The cotton production targets for the crop season 2018-19 were fixed at 14.370 million bales with an average per hectare output of 850 kg per hectare, said an official in the Ministry of National Food Security and Research.
Talking to APP here on Thursday, he said that cotton crop to be cultivated over 2,300 thousand hectares in Punjab Province, where as crop production during the period under review was fixed at 10.0 million bales.
The average crop output was fixed at 739.5 kg per hectare by ensuring the availability of certified high yielding seed verities and efficient use of other inputs, he added.
Meanwhile, he said that the crop sowing targets for the Sindh Province was fixed at 620 thousand hectares to produce about 4.200 million cotton bales during current Kharif season by achieving an average output of about 1,152.3 kg per hectare.
On the other hand, cotton crop to be cultivated over 5 thousand hectares in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 30 thousand hectares in Balochistan provinces respectively to produce 20,000 and 150,000 cotton bales respectively.
He further informed that in order to achieve the sowing targets government had ensured the availability of all inputs including certified high yielding seed, pesticides and access to credit facilities to purchase these inputs on time.
The federal government in collaboration with the field extension departments had started awareness campaign for cotton growers and initiated different training program at field level to cultivate the crop in more areas and to achieve more output, he added.
He said that the government had also introduced short messaging services for farmers for providing them proper weather forecast and climatic conditions during the season and updating them about any pest out attacks to avoid any damage to crop.

A state is incomplete without judiciary: CJ

PESHAWAR, Apr 19 (APP):Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar Thursday said judiciary and state are inter-related and a state cannot be run without judiciary.
Addressing the trainee district and session judges at Judicial Complex here, he said that judiciary being an important segment of a state explains laws and judges should be well aware of the laws to properly and correctly explain for justice in the society.
He said that survival of humanity lies in judiciary, as the later ensure provision of basis rights to individuals.The CJ said that it is
imperative for judges to have clear knowledge of laws.
He expressed pleasure to see female officers and said that it was a good that female officers were also contributing in provision of justice.

Nasser, Tunisian Envoy discuss ways to further enhance bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD, Apr 19 (APP):Ambassador of Tunisia, Adel Elarbi called on National Security Adviser, Lt. General (Retd) Nasser Khan
Janjua on Thursday and discussed ways to further enhance bilateral relations.
Matters regarding security and stability of South Asia and
Africa also came under discussion during the meeting.
Talking to the Ambassador, Nasser Janjua said
Tunisia is a brotherly Muslim country and Pakistan is also keen
to expand cooperation with Tunisia.
Strong relations with Tunisia would be instrumental for
maintaining good relations with other African countries as well, he
said.
The Envoy highlighted that because of its location Tunisia
can be helpful for Pakistan in providing an easy access to
European and African countries.
“We have a lot of scope to move forward and it is high time
to translate our different ideas of cooperation into tangible
projects,” the Envoy added.
He said that Tunisia attaches great importance to its
relations with Pakistan and expressed desire to boost
bilateral relations by extending cooperation in multiple areas
including defence, trade and social sector development.
He also asked Pakistan to keep up momentum of
improvement in relations of the two countries, the frequency of
high level engagements should be maintained.
He conveyed the desire of his government to start comprehensive
counter terrorism cooperation with Pakistan.
“Our government is keen to explore possibilities of enhancing
cooperation between both the countries in field of security,
particularly counter-terrorism.
He expressed desire and need to initiate cooperation between
Tunisian Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Pole and National
Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), of Pakistan.
Both sides agreed to work together at all levels to promote
cordial and cooperation bilateral relations.

Govt committed to eliminate preventable blindness from Pakistan: PM

LONDON, Apr 19 (APP):As over eight million Pakistanis were suffering from preventable vision loss, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday expressed his government’s clear commitment to eliminate preventable blindness from the country.
He made this commitment during a meeting with senior officials of Peek Vision and CBM here on the sidelines of Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM 2018).
Peek Vision was a world leader in using smartphone technology and training healthcare workforces in developing countries to eliminate preventable blindness and poor vision, while CBM was an international non-governmental development organisation working in the field of disability globally for over 100 years with a major focus on eye care.
During the meeting with Prime Minister Abbasi, Peek Vision was represented by Chief Executive Officer and co-founder Dr Andrew Bastawrous while CBM was represented by their Director of Inclusive Eye Health Dr Babar Qureshi.
The discussion centered around a major challenge for Pakistan, that of eliminating preventable blindness. It is estimated that there are more than eight million citizens of Pakistan that are suffering from preventable visual loss.
Peek Vision with CBM were prepared to deploy their partnership to deliver the most advanced solutions for the identification, diagnosis and treatment management for Pakistani citizens using the country’s existing health infrastructure and staff.
Prime Minister Abbasi invited Peek Vision to Pakistan and committed the full support of the Government for a national program in that regard.
Peek Vision and CBM agreed to follow up and work with the Government to reach this noble goal.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Ali Jehangir Siddiqui and Pakistani High Commissioner to United Kingdom Syed Ibne Abbas were also present during the meeting.

Fazl appeals UNSG to take notice of Indian atrocities in Kashmir

ISLAMABAD, Apr 19 (APP):Chairman Special Committee of National Assembly on Kashmir Maulana Fazlur Rehman has appealed United Nations Secretary General (UNSG) to immediately take notice of atrocities and barbarianism of Indian occupational forces in Occupied Kashmir particularly rising trend of harassing Kashmiri women and employing sexual harassment as a weapon.
Fazlur Rehman in a statement demanded from the UN Secretary General to constitute an independent investigation commission to probe decades long uninterrupted inhumane treatment meted out to struggling Kashmiris and compile a report for presentation before the General Assembly.
“This is imperative to expose India and its shameful acts against Kashmiris before international community and pave way towards taking concrete steps for resolution of this problem,” he said in his statement.
Focusing particularly to recent incident of raping a girl Asifa by Indian forces and afterwards killing her mercilessly, he strongly condemned irresponsible attitude of Indian government and underlined the need for raising a strong voice by Indian people against this barbaric act and bringing the culprits to book.
He said it is unfortunate that whole of Kashmiri population is unsafe at the hands of Indian occupational forces who are targeting Kashmiri youth peacefully struggling for their just right to self-determination, in the name of operation and subjecting them to torture and inhuman treatment.
As a result of their atrocities, the growing scorn of Kashmiri people for the occupied forces is natural as it can be seen through pictures published in media that students in school uniform were protesting against occupied forces. This reflects the spirit of Kashmiri people who are waging struggle against Indian occupation of the valley.
He also called upon the Indian Government to immediately take steps for resolving this issue and enter into meaningful dialogue with Pakistan for resolving the Kashmir issue.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman also warned that violent and imprudent use of force will not only further deteriorate human rights situation in Occupied Kashmir but also further add to problems of the region.

Versatile TV actor Muhammad Ali remembered

ISLAMABAD, Apr 19 (APP):The birth anniversary of legendary and versatile TV actor (late) Muhammad Ali was observed Thursday.
Muhammad Ali was born on 19th April 1931 in Rampur‚ India. His family moved from Rampur to Rohtak after his birth and from there to Hyderabad and then to Multan shortly after the independence of Pakistan.
Muhammad Ali joined Radio Pakistan Hyderabad as a broadcaster in 1956. He also worked at radio Pakistan Bahawalpur Karachi stations.
Zulfiqar Ali Bukhari‚ the then Director General Radio Pakistan‚ became his mentor for acting. Muhammad Ali used to mention him as his spiritual father. Later‚ he introduced Muhammad Ali to his friend‚ poet and film producer Fazal Ahmed Kareem Fazli‚ who offered him the role of a hero for his new movie Chiragh Jalta Rraha. But instead of playing the role of hero‚ Ali accepted the role of villain in the movie, PTV news reported.
He was known as Shahenshah-e-Jazbaat‚ The Emperor of Emotions. As a highly versatile actor‚ he performed historical, biographical and patriotic roles; in costume and art movies. He has starred in over 250 movies playing both heroes and villains.
Muhammad Ali began his professional career from Radio Pakistan Hyderabad and his debut film was “Charagh Jalta Raha” (1962).
“Shararat” (1964) was another popular film by him. Muhammad Ali performed an unforgettable role in “Aag Ka Darya.”
He acted in over 300 movies including some Punjabi films and worked with Zeba‚ Shamim Ara and other prominent actors and actresses of the time. He was a versatile actor and played negative as well as character actor roles successfully.
He married Zeba‚ a prominent film heroine of her time. Ali was a cardiac patient and underwent two surgeries.
He is widely considered to be the foremost dramatic performer that the Pakistani film industry has ever had and was conferred with Pride of Performance in 1984 in recognition of his life-long services to the entertainment industry of Pakistan and subsequently became the only actor who was awarded with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.

While giving impressions‚ Film star and his wife‚ Zeba Ali said that Muhammad Ali began his career from Radio Pakistan‚ due to this he always regarded and preferred Radio Pakistan over all forums. She said that his fans‚ lovers‚ friends and relatives still remember Muhammad Ali as in his life.
Some of his famous movies include Bahadur‚ Daal Mein Kala‚ Dil Ne Tujhay Maan Liya‚ Shararat ‚ Khandan ‚ Khamosh Raho ‚Clerk ‚ Jan Pehchan ‚ Kaneez ‚ Dil Aur Duniyan ‚ Bobi ‚ Mr. X ‚Tiger Gang ‚ Mere Humsafar ‚ Sher Di ‚ Insan aur Aadmi was ‚ Shirin Farhad ‚Dum Mast Qalander ‚Khamosh raho‚ Aag ka Dariya‚ Wehshi ‚ Aag and Jaise jantey nahin.
He won 10 awards in different categories and was also conferred Pride of Performance in 1984 in recognition of his lifelong services to the entertainment industry of Pakistan. He was the only film actor in Pakistan who was honored with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz‚ the second highest civilian award in Pakistan.
