FPCCI lauds govt for energizing economy in short span

ISLAMABAD, May 26 (APP): The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Thursday lauded the government for stabilizing country’s economy within three years contrary to expectations on foreign experts.

The business community fully supports the economic vision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar who are capable enough to make Pakistan a developed nation, said Abdul Rauf Alam, President FPCCI.

Speaking to the business community he said, that FPCCI will fully cooperate with the government to realize the economic targets in which expanding tax net is of paramount importance.

He said that sustainable development require reduced unemployment and better facilities of health, education, transportation etc. for which growth rate should be seven percent minimum.

Investment should be jacked up by twenty five percent for better GDP growth for which tax base and savings should be improved, he said, adding that rate of return on savings must be improved.

Abdul Rauf Alam said that only way to provide relief to majority of the world’s population living in Saarc region is through increased trade and reduced friction.

Three billion Asians could enjoy living standards similar to those in Europe today for which policies must be revisited while Saarc can account for over half of global output by the middle of this century but we are not prepared for it.

Curtailing movement of businessmen has been identified as one of the biggest hurdle in progress of region which is home to 22 per cent of world’s population with 45 per cent of young people but still underdeveloped, he said.

Lok Virsa produces a set of fity one cultural documentaries

ISLAMABAD, May 26 (APP): National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, Lok Virsa has produced and compiled a set of fity one cultural documentaries and three thousands hours audio recordings.

Virsa Media Center undertakes recordings to focus on traditional music and cultural heritage, an official of Lok Virsa told APP. He said that Lok Virsa is one of the largest publishers of the traditional music and culture.

National History & Literary Heritage Division to organize book festivals

ISLAMABAD, May 26 (APP): The National History and Literary Heritage Division would organize a series of book festivals in all the four provinces.

An officials of National History and Literary Heritage Division told APP that on the special directives of Advisor to Prime Minister on National History and Literary Heritage Irfan Sidduqi National Book Foundation (NBF) started preparations for organizing the book festivals in various cities including Hyderabad, Bahawalpur, Quetta and Peshawar.

He said that the book festivals would promote book reading culture in the country, adding that specially students of various institutions would be invited to visit the book festival to buy books on discounts prices.

He said that the publishers and book sellers also invited to set up their stalls at book festivals.

Pakistan to support Maldives in all areas: President

ISLAMABAD, May 26 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain Thursday expressed satisfaction at the existing bilateral relations between Pakistan and Maldives and assured of Pakistan’s continued support in all areas.

The President said this while talking to Defence and National Security Minister of Maldives Adam Shareef Umar who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

High Commissioner of Maldives to Pakistan Ahmed Saleem was also present on the occasion.

President Mamnoon said the two countries have long-standing friendly bilateral relations and noted with satisfaction that both were supporting each other at international forums on all issues.

The President expressed optimism that relations between the two countries will expand further and grow stronger in the future.

President Mamnoon expressed satisfaction at the close cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence noting that Pakistan was providing training facilities to Maldivian officials.

President Mamnoon said Pakistan has made tremendous strides in defence production and stated that several countries were evincing keen interest in buying Pakistani Super Mushak and JF-17 Thunder aircraft which were of highest international standards.

Defence and National Security Minister of Maldives Adam Shareef Umar thanked Pakistan for continued multidimensional support and stated that the two Muslim brotherly countries have had very cordial and trouble free relations over the last 50 years.

The Defence Minister appreciated that Pakistan has always offered unconditional help and particularly recalled the assistance provided by Pakistan during his country’s difficult times.

Adam Shareef Umar said that he was highly impressed by the quality of defence items produced in the Pakistan Ordinance Factories (POF), which were comparable to similar products of the developed countries.

The Maldivian Defence Minister said that he feels at home in Pakistan and was particularly impressed by the friendly and loving nature of the people of Pakistan.

He appreciated Pakistan’s achievements in the fight against terrorism and said that his country would like to benefit from Pakistan’s expertise and experience in this regard.

The President wished the visiting dignitary a comfortable and productive stay in Pakistan and expressed his best wishes for the President and people of Maldives.

Nisar approves revamping of criminal justice system

ISLAMABAD, May 26 (APP): Minister for Interior, Chaudhry
Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday accorded approval for revamping criminal justice system in view of low conviction rate of criminals and terrorists from courts because of weaker prosecution and investigations.

In this regard, he approved formation of Federal Core Group
as recommended in a high level meeting chaired by Secretary Ministry of Interior.

The Core Group comprises stakeholders from Federal as well as Provincial governments, civil society, political parties and
international organizations working on criminal justice system reforms in Pakistan.

The Federal Core Group would have sub committees of provincial governments.

The sub committees would submit their recommendations to
Federal Core Group bringing in a broader consensus for tangible solution to nest the reformation in Criminal Justice System of Pakistan.

The Minister asserted, “Terrorist attacks, violence and
loopholes in existing criminal justice system demands greater
commitment from state to ensure harsher punishment for
terrorists, and anti state elements.”

Ch. Nisar observed that a consensus on speedy and logical
reformation of criminal justice system on four key aspects Police, Prosecution, Courts, Corrections Prisons, Parole, Probation must be undertaken on emergency basis.

He directed National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) to
coordinate core issue of justice system under its mandated National Action Plan (NAP), with a precise objective of infusing reforms in criminal justice system.

He directed to ensure that reformation objectives are
swiftly achieved in a given timeframe with clear working
guidelines, Federal Core Group should also review previous work done on Criminal Justice System by judiciary, and foreign entities helping us to establish a way forward and achieve reformation target in minimum possible time.

Pakistan attaches high importance to Maldives: Sartaj

ISLAMABAD, May 26 (APP): Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz Thursday said Pakistan attaches high importance to its relations with the Maldives which are characterized by cordiality, mutual respect and commonality of interest.

The Adviser stated this in a meeting with Maldives Defence Minister Adam Shareef Umar here at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two sides expressed satisfaction at the overall trajectory of Pak-Maldives relations and reaffirmed their resolve for further strengthening these ties.

The Adviser expressed hope that the upcoming visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to the Maldives in July, 2016 on the occasion of the National Day of Maldives, will help provide further impetus to the bilateral relations.

The Defence Minister thanked the government of Pakistan for the warm hospitality extended to him and reciprocated the sentiments on cordial bilateral relations in defence and other fields.

A US based newspaper, Washington Post in its story titled “Pakistan: DNA tests to confirm Taliban leaders death,” quoted Ch. Nisar Ali Khan condemning drone strike, “calling it a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and international laws.”

Lok Virsa organizes “Dholak Geet Contest”

ISLAMABAD, May 26 (APP): Lok Virsa on Thursday organized a “Dholak Geet Contest” to revive the use of Dholak in our celebrations.

The students of various educational institutions was participated in the contest. An audio CD of ‘Dholak Geet’ was also launched on the occasion.

Executive Director Lok Virsa Fouzia Saeed addressing the participants said Lok Virsa would making efforts to revive the use of dholak in our celebrations.

“This has been one instrument which was fully owned by women and was commonly used for their songs, celebrations and sharing of good times,” she said.

She said that Lok Virsa calls upon every family to have a dholak at their homes so that it can become a symbol of creativity.

“Having a dholak at home will encourage our children to learn it and participate in wedding celebrations and other family occasions. We have to get good quality traditional music for our weddings,” Fouzia said.

Dholaks was also available for sale at the occasion and at our Lok Virsa shop from then on wards.

CPEC to create thousands of job opportunities in various sectors

ISLAMABAD, May 26 (APP): The Project Director CPEC, Major General ® Zahir Shah has said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to provide Seven hundred thousands job opportunities in various sectors.

Talking to Radio Pakistan, he said that to secure the CPEC nine thousand army troops along with six thousand personnel of civil armed forces are working in special security
division.
