Nawaz Sharif torch bearer of progress, prosperity in AJK: Asif Kirmani

BAGH, Jun 17 (APP): Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Political Affairs Dr Asif Kirmani Friday said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was the torch bearer of progress and prosperity in Azad Kashmir and the PML-N government would ensure facilities for people at their doorsteps.

He was speaking at a gathering of PML-N leaders and workers here.

He said Nawaz Sharif had same vision and plan of prosperity for Pakistan and Azad Kashmir and he wanted progress and development
in both areas.

Kirmani assured that during the government of PML-N, people would not have to seek justice but would get it at their doorsteps.

Nawaz Sharif would implement his plans and carry out projects like Neelum Jhelum project and motorway in Kashmir, he added.

“Name of Nawaz Sharif was synonymous with progress, prosperity
and brightness.”

He said projects in sectors of education, health, clean drinking water and roads would be undertaken, adding it was dream of Nawaz Sharif that AJK becomes a quality tourist destination.

He said PML-N would heavily win the elections of AJK on July 21.

He said people who ruled AJK at different times did nothing for Kashmiris in 60 years.

The previous governments looted AJK, made empty promises and
denied rights to the people, he added.

He said looters and mafias damaged the Kashmir cause, adding
those who had lust for power were imposed on the common man.

These elements wanted to join the PML-N but the leadership refused to take them in party fold, he added.
He said those who got votes of people did nothing for the people.

Kirmani said PMLN was party of Quaid e Azam who made Pakistan
despite opposition of Hindus, Sikhs, British and others.

National cricketers join Abdul Sattar Edhi’s mission

LAHORE, June 17 (APP):- In a befitting tribute to the work of Abdul
Sattar Edhi, Pakistan Cricket Board has announced its support for the Edhi Foundation.

The announcement was made by Chairman PCB, Shaharyar M. Khan, at a press conference here on Friday.

Those who present at the press conference were Najam Sethi, Chairman PSL, Subhan Ahmad, COO PCB, Saad Edhi, Trustee Edhi Foundation and grandson of Abdul Sattar Edhi, Jahanzeb Khan, Vice President and General Manager Pepsi Cola International, Misbah ul Haq, Captain Pakistan Test Team, Azhar Ali, Captain Pakistan ODI Team, and Sarfaraz Ahmed, Captain Pakistan T20 Team.

As part of the arrangement, the Pakistan Cricket Team will be seen
sporting Edhi Foundation’s logo on the playing shirts for the ODI and T20 leg of its upcoming tour of England and Ireland. This partnership honours the services of the great humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi, one of the world’s most selfless philanthropists.

Sharing his thoughts on this partnership, Chairman PCB Shaharyar M. Khan said: “We feel honoured to associate ourselves with the work of such a great human being. PCB is cognizant of its responsibility to give back to the society and this is a continuation of our policy to support and promote such initiatives.”

Chairman PSL and Chairman PCB Executive Committee, Najam Sethi, also spoke at the occasion. “In the past one year, PCB has tried to be more aware of its social responsibility. We started with the labour camp activations during the Pakistan-England series in the UAE where we reached out to over 100,000 Pakistani labourers working in testing conditions. Today, we are proud of our association with the Edhi Foundation,” said Sethi.

Saad Edhi, Trustee of the Edhi Foundation and grandson of Abdul Sattar Edhi was present on behalf of the Edhi Foundation. “On behalf of the Edhi Foundation, I would like to thank the Pakistan Cricket Board for its support to our cause. Seeing our cricketers sporting the Edhi Foundation logo on their kits will raise great awareness on a global platform,” he said.

Chairman PCB presented a cheque of Rs 0.5 million to Edhi Foundation. On behalf of PSL, Najam Sethi handed out a cheque of Rs 0.5 million for Edhi Foundation.

Acknowledging the services of Edhi Foundation for the welfare of
humanity, Jahanzaib Khan, Vice President and General Manager Pepsi Cola International presented a cheque of Rs 1 million.

As a mark of respect for Abdul Sattar Edhi, Misbah ul Haq, Azhar Ali, and Sarfaraz Ahmed presented the official Pakistan ODI and T20 jersey to Saad Edhi on behalf of the Pakistan Cricket Team. The team also donated a signed bat to be given away in an auction for the benefit of Edhi Foundation.

President lauds Dar on achieving MSCI emerging market index

ISLAMABAD, Jun 17 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain on
Friday congratulated Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on the country’s
upgradation to Emerging Markets status.

In a telephonic call to the Finance Minister, the President
noted with appreciation that sound and sustained economic policies
had resulted in Pakistan’s qualification for Morgan Stanley Capital
International (MSCI) Emerging Markets Index.

The President hoped that reclassification of Pakistan Index
by MSCI would further open up the country’s market for both domestic and foreign investment as Pakistan offers liberal and friendly investment opportunities.

President Mamnoon expressed confidence that this would not
only boost national economy but also raise the country’s economic standing in the international markets.

Vote for PML-N to change destiny of AJK: Barjees Tahir

BAGH, Jun 17 (APP): Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Chaudhry Barjees Tahir Friday said voting for Pakistan Muslim League(N) in upcoming elections would change destiny of Azad
Kashmir as the party planned to undertake massive development
projects in the region.

Speaking to a gathering of Pakistan Muslim League(N) workers
and supporters here, he said PML(N) achieved victory in Gilgit
Baltistan with the vision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and efforts
of party workers.

He said he was seeing same kind of passion among the workers
and PML-N would emerge victorious in the elections of AJK
legislative assembly on July 21.

He said system would be changed with the power of the vote
and PML-N would start a new phase of prosperity in AJK after the
elections.

Barjees assured that the PML-N leadership would resolve
problems of people, adding people could not be kept backward for a
long time.

Earlier speaking to party workers in Dhirkot, the minister
said AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed was not right in
saying that federal ministers were interfering in elections.

“We do not come for interference but to let the people
get rid of the PPP government in AJK. We are workers of Nawaz Sharif
and come to improve the system.”

He said Kashmir was a land of martyrs and ‘ghazis’ and its
people were not for sale, while Chaudhry Abdul Majeed was selling
tickets.

“We do not make false announcements while Abdul Majeed did
empty talk in Baloch bye-election as he announced building of
schools, colleges and roads but nothing happened.”

He said the announcements of Nawaz Sharif were implemented as
Changi Gala Road was being built at a cost of Rs 800 million and
passport office was also being set up.

The minister said in the next five years, Rs 50 billion would
be spent on construction of roads in Kashmir. A trauma center would
be built in every district and district headquarters hospitals would
be upgraded.

Rs 100 billion had been allocated for projects like Neelum
Jhelum power project in Kashmir, he added.

The PML-N intended massive allocations for Azad Kashmir
projects, he said adding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif wished to
launch projects of motorways and expressways in the area.
He urged people to bring PML-N to power in AJK for undertaking
all these projects. “We have launched CPEC with the cooperation of
China.”

Barjees said there were two groups in Kashmir, one is led by
Nawaz Sharif which wanted progress in Kashmir and the other wanted
to keep people in dark.

He said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AJK had dismissed
people with fake degrees because of which Chaudhry Abdul Majeed was
raising hue and cry.

He said the upcoming elections would be held fairly and there would be no rigging as the BISP funds and fake ID cards would not be
used.

He said Chaudhry Abdul Majeed had demanded that elections should be held under supervision of army. “We are in favour of it and we also asked for Rangers in the Baloch bye-election.”

When the voting would be fair then the institutions of AJK would also work properly, he added.

Pakistan to hold trade exhibition, business forum in Hungary: Khurram

ISLAMABAD, June 17 (APP): Minister for Commerce, Engr.
Khurram Dastgir Khan said on Friday that Pakistan would hold trade exhibition and a business forum in Hungary to enhance Pakistan’s exports in the Eastern part of Europe.

The minister stated this at a meeting with the Ambassador
of Hungary to Pakistan Istvan Szabo here.

Khurram Dastgir informed the Ambassador that Pakistan lacked investment in the agricultural technology, food processing, dairy processing, infrastructure building, renewable energy, information technology, water management and transportation and waste
management and the Hungarian companies could benefit from that.

Hungary is opening its business office in Karachi which would
be helpful in establishing business to business contacts and provide first hand opportunities of trade and investment arising in both countries.

Hungary, he said was also providingng 80 scholarships to Pakistani students in order to impart the technical expertise achieved by the Hungarian institutions and to link up the people of two countries.

The Ambassador informed the Minister that the Hungarian
Export Import (Exim) Bank was open for credit lines which would
provide the crucial financial facility for enhancing mutual trade.

He said that since the visit of the Minister of Economic
Diplomacy of Hungary there is a growing impression in Hungary that Pakistan’s economy had stabilized and countries
like Hungary could complement Pakistan’s trade and
investment potential.

He said that these was an increased interest
among Pakistani businessmen to trade with Hungary as was evident from the business visas which increased 10% last year.

The Ambassador informed the Minister that the two countries
could sign Economic Cooperation Agreement on the latter’s visit to Hungary as the Hungarian Government has already forwarded the agreement to the European Union for their comments.

Szabo also handed over the invitation to Dastgir to visit Hungary
by the Minister of State of Economic Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Levente Magyar.

Political stability imperative for progress: Ahsan

LAHORE, June 17 (APP): Federal Minister for Planning, Development and
Reforms, Ahsan Iqbal said on Friday that positive attitude and political stability were imperative to ensure economic progress and development of the country.

Addressing the Huawei-Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) summer
internship programme celebration 2016 here at a local hotel, he said that the country has reached at a stage where the world was hopeful about its progress.

“Two days back Pakistan again has been included in Emerging Market
Index and the world was seeing Pakistan as emerging economy, he said and added it was all due to able leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, his team and people of the country.”

The minister said that terrorists have been crushed and law and order
situation in Karachi has been improved a lot whereas the Balochistan has also been included in national streamline, he added.

Ahsan Iqbal said that importance of China Pakistan Economic Corridor
could not be minimized, adding that work on various energy projects under CPEC was underway which would help overcome electricity crisis.

He said that unfortunately in last 67 years the coal in Thar was not
utilized for the development of the country but now the mining work has been started under CPEC. The coal would also be utilized for electricity production, he added.

Federal Minister said that work on 3600 MW LNG power projects was also in progress and the electricity generated with these projects would be added in national grid.

He said that all these measures should have been taken some 10 to 15
years back but now the present government knowing its responsibilities focused on overcoming all existing challenges.

He said that investment on energy, infrastructure, transport and human was being made. He said there were a lot of opportunities for engineers in CPEC.

Ahsan Iqbal said that with a vision of making country a digital
economy, the 3G and 4G license were auctioned.

He said that youth was empowered through laptops and today, the
students were working with renowned software houses as laptops helped them to achieve their goals.

He further said that optic fibre cable was being installed from Khushab
to Islamabad which would benefit IT industry and other sectors.

He appealed to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chief Tahir-ul-Qadri to quit the politics of sit-ins.

He said that protests and sit-ins just created unrest in the country.
PEC Chairman Jawad Salim Quershi and Huawei Deputy Managing Director Mr Tony Lee also spoke on the occasion.

British PM wishes good luck to Pakistan cricket team

ISLAMABAD, Jun 17 (APP): British Prime Minister David Cameron
has sent his best wishes to the Pakistan cricket team for their tour
to England and also hoped that one day he will also be wishing the
England cricket team for a successful tour of Pakistan.

The British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Thomas Drew CMG,
hosted an Iftar dinner for the Pakistan Men’s Cricket Team and the Pakistan Cricket Board on Thursday, said a press release issued here.

On the occasion the High Commissioner passed on a message from
the British Prime Minister David Cameron written especially for the dinner. The Prime Minister’s message said, “A UK tour by Pakistan’s cricket teams is always an exciting prospect and I am sure we can expect some exceptional cricket this summer. But this trip also provides an opportunity to pause to reflect on, and celebrate, the wider historical, cultural and community links that exist between our two great cricketing nations.

“As you break your fast together on the eve of your departure
to the UK, please accept my very best wishes for the Holy month of Ramadan. I hope that both the men and women’s teams have a fantastic stay in Britain. And I hope that one day in the not too distant future I will be able to wish the England cricket team a successful tour of Pakistan.”

Thomas Drew also extended his best wishes to both England and
Pakistan saying this is a significant event for him because of the power of sport to achieve all the things that he, as a diplomat, try to do to bring two countries together. “Our respective cricket teams (Men and Women’s) have ambassadorial powers that I can only dream of,” he said.

“Manager Intikhab Alam, who having skippered Pakistan on 1971
and 1974 tours and having represented Surrey for decades on end, is no stranger to England. The team is indeed backed by a support staff second to none.

“I am positive that the squad under Misbah ul Haq shall give
a good account of itself on the forthcoming tour, not only on the field of play but also in terms of winning friends through impeccable display of grace and sportsmanship.

Yousaf urges India to respect religious rights of Kashmiris

ISLAMABAD, Jun 17 (APP): Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf has urged India to respect the religious rights and values of Kashmiri people.

Talking to a seven member Hurriyat delegation led by Chairman Jammu Kashmir Salvation Movement, Zaffar Akbar Bhat in Islamabad, he said
Pakistan will continue to extend moral, political and diplomatic support
to the Kashmiri people at all the international fora. The sacrifices of Kashmiris will not go waste.

Paying glowing tributes to martyrs of Kashmir, the Minister urged the media to highlight Kashmir’s freedom struggle in true spirit.

He said the silence of international community on Kshmir issue is incomprehensible. Right to self determination is fundamental right of Kashmiris. Pakistan will not withdraw political and moral support of Kashmiris.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has vigorously pursued the issue of Kashmir in United Nations. Pakistan offers facilities to visiting Yatrees, India should also provide matching facilities to Pakistani
pilgrims in India, he said.

The delegation said India want to turn the Muslim majority into
minority in the occupied territory. The Hurriyet Leaders appreciated
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for highlighting Kashmir issue at the
United Nations and other forums.

Tariq Fatemi phones FM of Belarus, Kazakh Deputy FM to lobby for Pakistan’s NSG membership

ISLAMABAD, Jun 17 (APP): As part of Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach efforts to secure membership of Nuclear Suppliers’ Group (NSG), the Special Assistant to PM on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi on Friday spoke over telephone with Foreign Minister of Belarus, Vladimir Makei and Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Ashikbayev.

Both Belarus and Kazakhstan appreciated the informative exchange of views and agreed to maintain close collaboration with Pakistan on this issue, a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here said.

On orders of Nisar, FIA arrests gang for extorting money from overseas Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD, Jun 17 (APP): On the directions of Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in an operation arrested a gang of five persons including personnel
of Special Branch and Punjab police.

The gang was involved in extorting money from overseas Pakistanis for verification of their Pakistani citizenship.

Interior Minister received a written application through Pakistan High Commission London that money was being demanded from Pakistanis living in Britain for verification of their Pakistani citizenship.

According to a press release, there were a huge number of Pakistanis
who went abroad in 60s and 70s and some people in them did not have
any documentary evidence for their Pakistani citizenship.

Therefore whenever these Pakistanis contact the Pakistan embassy for Pakistani passport or other documents their papers were sent to Pakistan for verification of citizenship.

In a letter sent by Pakistan High Commission, it was told that in the recent past, complaints were received that these Pakistanis were blackmailed.

The Interior Minister took notice of the situation and ordered action against the accused.

The minister also issued instructions for recovery of the illegal amount.
