No exemptions in law, Faiz Hameed case sets precedent; says Dr. Fazal

ISLAMABAD, Dec 12 (APP): Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry termed the recent decision regarding former Lt General Faiz Hameed as historic and said it has made clear the law is equal for everyone.

Addressing a press conference here Friday, he said the decision has further strengthened the process of self-accountability within the Pakistan Armed Forces and restored public confidence in the institution.

The minister said Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir has proven that no one was above the law. He said Faiz Hameed used his office according to personal likes and dislikes. In the name of national interest, Faiz Hameed toppled and formed governments, he added.

“When you use a state office for political engineering, there will be consequences,” he said, adding that illegal and fabricated cases were framed against the PML-N leadership at the behest of Faiz Hameed.

The minister said the nexus between Faiz Hameed and Imran Khan created political instability in the country. Through this nexus, an unsuccessful attempt was made to create division within the Pakistan Armed Forces, he added.

He urged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to abandon its negative politics. Imran Khan and PTI consider Adiala Jail to be their party secretariat, he remarked.

He said Imran Khan’s X account is spewing venom against state institutions. Under the leadership of Field Marshal General Asim Munir, the Pakistan Armed Forces set a remarkable example of success in Operation Bunyan al-Marsus, he added.

The minister said Pakistan is progressing successfully on the diplomatic front, but unfortunately one political party is spreading negative propaganda against the state. A convicted criminal sitting in jail is continuously spewing venom against the Pakistan Armed Forces, he said.

He said it is the collective responsibility of all Pakistanis to counter the propaganda of such elements. “We want good relations with Afghanistan, but it is their responsibility to ensure that Afghan soil is not used for terrorism in Pakistan,” he remarked.

He also criticized the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for opposing the ongoing counter-terrorism operation in the province.

ISLAMABAD, Dec 12 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi visited the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) and held a detailed meeting with representatives of the traders’ community to discuss their issues and ways to strengthen cooperation between police and the business sector.

An official told APP on Friday that matters related to the security of markets and industrial areas, facilitation of economic activities, and improved coordination between police and traders came under discussion during the meeting.

The IGP Rizvi said that traders play a vital role in economic development and assured that Islamabad Police are taking all possible measures to ensure the protection of traders, markets, and industrial zones in the federal capital. He noted that the use of modern technology, installation of cameras, and effective security planning have helped maintain law and order.

Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said that the revival of police–traders liaison committees has led to a noticeable reduction in issues faced by the business community, adding that Islamabad Police are implementing a comprehensive strategy to make the business environment safe and conducive.

Trader representatives presented suggestions regarding security arrangements and coordination mechanisms. They appreciated the existing security measures and assured full cooperation with the police in maintaining peace and stability.

The IGP welcomed the proposals put forward by the chamber officials and emphasized that continuous consultation and joint efforts would further improve security. On the occasion, the Chamber of Commerce presented a commemorative shield to the IGP in recognition of his services.

Both sides agreed to enhance future collaboration and coordination for the safety of traders and the promotion of economic activities in Islamabad./

KP food authority holds technical consultative meeting on iTFA mitigation

PESHAWAR, Dec 12 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety & Halal Food Authority (KPFS&HFA) on Friday held a technical consultative meeting on the mitigation of industrially produced Trans Fatty Acids (iTFAs).

The meeting was chaired by Director General Muhammad Wasif Saeed and attended by a distinguished delegation from the Department of Food Science & Technology, University of Karachi.

The delegation included Chairman Dr. M. Abdul Haq, Associate Professor Dr. S. M. Ghufran Saeed ,Assistant Professor Dr. Syed Arsalan Ali of Iqra University and Dr. Seema Ashraf, Sindh Food Authority

The experts delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the public health risks associated with iTFAs and proposed practical, industry-oriented mitigation strategies for edible oil and fat processors. They emphasized the need for strong regulatory oversight, improved industry compliance and enhanced consumer awareness to curb iTFA exposure nationwide.

DG Wasif Saeed appreciated the initiative and briefed the delegation on major reforms underway at the Authority, including Real-time digital field monitoring and enforcement dashboard, forthcoming 15-year Food and Health Disease Burden Baseline Study, strengthened regulatory inspection frameworks, expansion of high-tech laboratory infrastructure, enhanced risk-based and compliance-based enforcement supported by mobile food testing laboratories

He noted that these initiatives represent the authority’s continued efforts to modernize and ensure food safety governance, strengthen surveillance systems and align provincial operations with international best practices.

The delegation later visited the Provincial Food Testing Laboratory & Centre for Research where they were briefed about on expanded analytical capabilities, modern instrumentation, automated workflows, and strengthened quality assurance mechanisms.

PSX stays bullish, gains 1,289 points

ISLAMABAD, Dec 12 (APP):The benchmark KSE-100 Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday closed on a bullish note, rising by 1,289.83 points, a positive change of 0.77 percent, to settle at 169,864.53 points compared to 168,574.69 points on the previous trading day, according to PSX data.

During the session, the ready market recorded a trading volume of 873.030 million shares with a traded value of Rs40.870 billion, against 1,288.969 million shares valuing Rs55.231 billion in the previous session.

Market capitalization increased to Rs19.321 trillion from Rs19.217 trillion a day earlier.

Out of 482 active companies in the ready market, 259 advanced, 180 declined, while 43 remained unchanged.

Hum Network led the volume chart with 71.840 million shares, followed by Dost Steels Ltd. with 46.970 million shares, and WorldCall Telecom with 40.811 million shares.

The top gainers included Hoechst Pakistan Limited, increasing by Rs428.27 to close at Rs4,711.61, and PIA Holding Company Limited-B, which rose by Rs159.50 to settle at Rs24,196.00.

Major losers were Service Industries Limited, falling by Rs57.43 to close at Rs1,550.81, and Khyber Textile Mills Limited, declining by Rs53.02 to close at Rs1,972.51.

In the futures market, turnover stood at 177.125 million shares with a traded value of Rs9.628 billion, compared to 224.650 million shares worth Rs10.890 billion in the previous session.

Out of 316 futures-market companies, 175 recorded gains, 136 declined, while 5 remained unchanged.

Among futures contracts, HUMNL-Dec led with 19.306 million shares, followed by PACE-Dec with 18.858 million shares, and SSGC-DECB with 13.537 million shares.
