IGP issues relief orders on various cops’ requests

LAHORE, Sep 19 (APP):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar on Friday met with police employees and their families at the Central Police Office and listened to their concerns regarding promotions, seniority, welfare and administrative matters.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, the IGP issued on-the-spot directives for immediate relief in several cases. On the request of ASI Shafqat Ali for restoration of seniority, IGP Punjab directed the Additional IG Punjab to provide relief. On the request of sanitary worker Patras Masih regarding transfer and posting, IGP directed the CTO Lahore to provide relief. On the request of Traffic Assistant Muhammad Akbar for medical financial assistance, IGP directed the Additional IG Welfare & Finance to provide relief. Similarly, on the request of Senior Security Constable Babar Ali, IGP directed the DPO Kasur to provide relief.
Dr. Usman Anwar said that the best welfare of the police force and their families is the first priority and all possible measures are being taken in this regard.

Beijing Xiangshan Forum introduces ‘High-end Dialogues’ with global experts

BEIJING, Sep 19 (APP): The 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum opened at the Beijing International Convention Center, featuring a new section called “High-end Dialogues.”

The dialogue brought together experts and scholars from China and abroad, highlighting the forum’s role as a high-level platform for international exchanges.

During an interview session, Mustafa Mahdi Al-Ramah, president of the Iraqi Defense University for Military Studies, praised China’s achievements in infrastructure and education.

He expressed hopes for stronger cooperation with China, saying: “If participating countries are willing to move toward the outcomes of such meetings, I believe they will be effective.”

Held under the theme “Upholding International Order and Promoting Peaceful Development,” the forum addresses pressing global security challenges and reflects its forward-looking orientation, CGTN reported on Friday.

Representatives from developed nations, emerging powers, small and medium-sized countries, as well as conflict-affected regions are in attendance. Compared with previous years, the number of former senior political and military dignitaries and prominent experts has risen significantly, making the forum more diverse, representative, and balanced, and fully reflecting its openness and inclusiveness.

Pan Qinghua, one of the participants, said the forum provides a meaningful opportunity for open dialogue. “Being able to share perspectives and seek common ground at the forum helps avoid conflict and promote balance,” he said.

Committees assessing crop damages

LAHORE, Sep 19 (APP): Punjab Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said on Friday that recent floods had put negative impact on agricultural economy.
He presided over the meeting of the Agriculture Commission at Agriculture House here on Friday. The meeting reviewed the crop situation during and after the floods.
The minister said that in view of the flood situation, actionable recommendations of the members, would be implemented immediately. He said that Punjab CM was monitoring flood relief and rescue operations on daily basis. He said, “Foods have caused irreparable losses to human lives, livestock and crops.” He further said that Punjab CM had assigned special duties to provincial ministers for flood relief and rescue operations. All possible resources were being utilized to resolve the difficulties of flood victims. According to the directions of the Punjab chief minister, the victims were being provided with food, shelter and the best healthcare facilities.
Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said that livestock belonging to flood victims were being shifted to safe places, vaccinated and provided medical treatment. Committees had been formed to assess and survey crop damages and the chief minister would soon announce a special package, he added.
Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo said that the Agriculture department was playing an active role in supplying green fodder and feed for the animals of the flood victims. The activities of the Agriculture department’s field formations in relief operations were being monitored daily.
Punjab Livestock & Dairy Development Secretary Ahmad Aziz Tarar said that the provision of animal feed (Vanda) and silage for the livestock of flood victims was being ensured.

NCHR member visits S&S Law Associates, highlights HR and minorities’ issues

ISLAMABAD, Sep 19 (APP): Member National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) Manzoor Masih, visited S&S Law Associates, the country’s first all-women law firm, where he delivered a lecture to fresh law graduates and interns on human rights and the role of NCHR in safeguarding fundamental freedoms.
During his address, Manzoor Masih briefed the participants on the Commission’s initiatives, with a particular focus on the protection of minority rights. He emphasized the importance of ensuring equal access to justice for marginalized groups and shared insights into the Commission’s ongoing efforts in this regard.
He also presented NCHR’s recent reports on human rights and held discussions with the firm’s leadership regarding possible avenues of collaboration, particularly in providing free legal aid to vulnerable communities.
The interaction aimed to encourage young legal professionals to contribute towards building a just and inclusive legal system while strengthening institutional partnerships for the promotion and protection of human rights in Pakistan.

Romanian Embassy to showcase cultural diplomacy commitment

The festival will feature a performance by renowned Romanian soprano, Mrs. Georgiana Costea Gluga, which is scheduled for November 4, 2025, said a press released issued here Friday.
A delegation from the Pakistan Romania Business Council, including Advisor and Chief Operating Officer, Atif Farooqi and Firpo, Chairman, Sohail Shamim met with President of the Arts Council of Pakistan Ahmed Shah to discuss festival logistics.
This collaboration showcases the Embassy of Romania’s commitment to cultural diplomacy and strengthening Romania-Pakistan ties.

Jazz, VEON leadership call on chairman PTA

ISLAMABAD, Sep 19 (APP): VEON and Jazz leadership delegation, led by Kaan Terziolu, CEO of VEON Group, and Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz, called on Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The meeting centered on unlocking Pakistan’s digital potential through forward-looking reforms, spectrum management, and digital sector investment-friendly policies. The VEON CEO underlined Pakistan’s role as a strategic growth engine for VEON, with Jazz at the forefront of driving digital adoption nationwide.
They highlighted ambitions to expand broadband penetration, accelerate readiness for 5G, and scale digital platforms that empower both citizens and businesses.
Jazz’s expertise in all relevant digital enablement and service delivery areas, powered by robust mobile broadband connectivity, was showcased as a foundation for strengthening digital sovereignty and fostering innovation. During the discussions, Jazz and VEON reiterated their advocacy for the industry-wide reforms, calling for fair spectrum pricing and timely spectrum release after prompt resolution of issues holding back further spectrum allocations.
Rationalised taxation, delinking of telecom costs from dollar indexation, as well as fostering an enabling environment through simplified licensing, supporting shared network infrastructure, separate service provisioning, and predictable policies to encourage further investments, also came under discussion.
The delegation also commended the recent waiver of Right of Way (RoW) charges in Islamabad, describing it as a positive step toward enabling faster fiberization and the rollout of digital infrastructure.
They encouraged the extension of this reform nationwide to create a consistent ROW environment. This strategic engagement reflects Jazz and VEON’s continued commitment to supporting the Government of Pakistan’s Digital Pakistan agenda. Balochistan govt, Jamaat-e-Islami partners for youth development

QUETTA, Sep 19 (APP):In a significant step toward youth development, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman met with Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Friday to discuss the province’s political, social, and educational landscape.
The meeting, attended by senior officials from both sides, focused on launching a collaborative strategy to deliver modern IT training to Balochistan’s youth.
Chief Minister Bugti expressed his appreciation for Jamaat-e-Islami’s “Bano Qabil Pakistan” initiative, describing it as a valuable contribution to the provincial government’s mission to equip young people with competitive skills.
He announced the rollout of the “Youth Skills Development Program,” highlighting that the first batch of trainees has already departed for Saudi Arabia, with a second group preparing for Germany.
Sarfraz Bugti emphasized that his administration is committed to merit-based development, citing the recruitment of 16,000 teachers through a transparent process. He also shared key milestones in the education sector, including the reactivation of 3,200 previously non-functional schools and the establishment of 485 new community schools within just two months.
In addition to educational reforms,  Sarfraz Bugti outlined progress in the health sector. Through a partnership with Indus Hospital, four rural hospitals have been upgraded with state-of-the-art facilities.
He noted that for many remote areas, these are the first government medical services available since Pakistan’s inception—a historic achievement for the province.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman commended the provincial government’s initiatives and pledged Jamaat-e-Islami’s full support in expanding IT training programs. He revealed that over 12,000 youth from Balochistan have already registered for “Bano Qabil Pakistan,” reflecting strong interest in skill development.
Naeem ur Rehman stressed the importance of integrating Balochistan into the national mainstream and ensuring equal opportunities for its youth. He affirmed Jamaat-e-Islami’s commitment to advocating for Balochistan’s development at the federal level.

The discussions revolved around strengthening the nexus between Pakistan’s business community and PMYP, with a shared vision of promoting youth-led entrepreneurship, skill development, trade partnerships, and investment opportunities.

Among the participants were high-ranking government officials, heads of leading international corporations, executives of investment banks, and prominent experts, said a press release issued by Embassy of Turkmenistan on Friday.
The Forum was inaugurated with an address by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, delivered on his behalf by the Minister of Finance and Economy.
The key event of the opening day was the plenary session titled “Investment Attractiveness of Turkmenistan as a Factor of Strategic Efficiency.”
The session was moderated by Dmitry Shlapachenko, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan.
Distinguished international experts delivered keynote speeches, including Ms. Beatriz Luz Maser Mallor, Executive Director of the World Bank, and Ms. Rabab Fatima, UN Under-Secretary-General.
In her remarks, Ms. Rabab Fatima highly commended Turkmenistan’s leadership in advancing the interests of landlocked developing countries (LLDCs) and presented new UN initiatives aimed at mobilizing investments.
She expressed deep appreciation to the Government of Turkmenistan for convening the Forum, noting that the event was a logical continuation of the Third UN Conference on LLDCs, successfully held in Awaza last month.
Ms. Fatima emphasized the vast investment opportunities in LLDCs, underlining that these countries, with their young demographics and abundant renewable resources, have the potential to become hubs of sustainable development and innovation.
To harness this potential, the Office of the UN Under-Secretary General has launched several initiatives: the establishment of an Infrastructure Investment Financing Mechanism, the launch of a Global Business Network, and the development of a Digital Investment Guide.
It was also highlighted that, together with partners, the UN has prepared a comprehensive roadmap comprising 319 projects, programmes, and activities for the implementation of the Awaza Programme of Action for the Decade 2024–2034. In conclusion, Ms. Fatima stressed that partnerships formed at such forums as TIF 2025 are crucial to transforming LLDCs into dynamic and self-sufficient economies.
She expressed hope for close cooperation, affirming that solidarity and determination will help unlock the full potential of these countries.
Professor S. Frederick Starr, in his address at the Forum, urged investors to look beyond traditional oil and gas projects.
He highlighted two key sectors: transport and agriculture. Referring to the long-standing TAPI pipeline project, he emphasized the importance of bringing it into reality and drew attention to the highly developed agricultural regions in the north of the country, which hold vast opportunities for expansion.
Over the course of two days, participants of the Forum will be presented with ready-to-implement projects across key sectors of the Turkmen economy, including energy, logistics, construction, finance, and innovation. Special focus will be given to public–private partnerships, “green” and digital transformation, as well as climate-resilient agriculture.
The high profile of the event is underscored by broad international support: more than 50 official partners and organizations are sponsoring and supporting the Forum. Among them are the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations, the EBRD, as well as major corporations such as Daewoo E&C and John Deere.
