KU’s Wisdom Therapy Center hosts first Hum Nashist program

KARACHI, Dec 29 (APP): The Wisdom Therapy Center, established at the Department of Public Administration of the University of Karachi, organized the inaugural session of its intellectual program “Hum Nashist” at the department.
The purpose “Hum Nashist” was to transmit local wisdom, practical experiences, and life-learned insights to the younger generation. Instead of formal speeches, the program emphasized thoughtful dialogue, personal observations, and lived experiences, offering participants a meaningful opportunity for reflection and self-accountability, said a statement on Monday.
The chief guest of the ceremony, the former Vice Chancellor of Hamdard University and acting chairperson of the KU’s Department of Public Administration Prof Dr Syed Shabib Ul Hasan highlighted the importance of self-awareness in human life. He noted that while this journey ideally begins in childhood with parents and teachers playing a pivotal role, it is not confined to any one stage of life.
He mentioned that at any age, a person must know where they stand and what their life’s purpose is. He remarked that success is not defined by a single day or destination, but is a continuous journey.
He stressed that remaining committed to one’s purpose and practicing perseverance are the true foundations of success. Its beauty is magnified when one has companions with whom to share joy. Speaking about the Department of Public Administration, he expressed that the institution holds a unique place in his life, where he has always received guidance and support at every stage.
Reflecting on the role of teachers, Dr Shabib Ul Hasan emphasized that teaching is the profession of the Prophets (Peace Be Upon Him) and is a highly dignified and sacred responsibility.
He stated that if given the chance to return to 1999, he would once again choose this very field. According to him, the gathering lit lamps of hope and courage that will serve as guiding beacons for future generations.
At the conclusion of the program, Prof Dr Syed Shabib Ul Hasan advised the youth to take pride in their traditions, values, and especially the Urdu language, making it an integral part of their identity.
On this occasion, participants described the session as purposeful, thought-provoking, and inspiring, expressing the desire for such gatherings to continue so that local intellectual and moral heritage can be preserved and passed on to future generations.
According to Dr Mustafa Hyder, the organizers of the KU’s Wisdom Therapy Center, platforms like “Hum Nashist” play a vital role in fostering serious dialogue, intellectual guidance, and the promotion of positive values in society. He mentioned that such sessions will continue to be held regularly in the future.

Police achieves  major breakthrough against crime, 63 gangs busted

MULTAN, Dec 29 (APP): Multan Police have continued their aggressive campaign to eradicate crime from the city, registering remarkable success through coordinated and intelligence-led operations during the last three months.
During comprehensive actions, the Gulgasht Division arrested 142 members of 63 criminal gangs involved in dacoity, armed robbery, motorcycle and vehicle theft and other criminal acivities, besides recovering stolen property worth more than Rs 185.3 million.
Holding a press conference at Police Line here on Monday, the City Police Officer (CPO) Sadiq Ali Dogar said that the recovered properties includes 16 cars, one wagon, one APV van, 191 tolas of gold ornaments, 71 mobile phones, livestock including a buffalo, goats and a calf, four inverters, 1,500 Saudi Riyals, steel and brass utensils, iron grills, and over Rs 366 million in cash. Police also recovered weapons used in criminal activities, including 132 pistols and more than 246 rounds of ammunition. As a result of these efforts, 639 criminal cases were successfully traced during the separate investigations from the arrested criminals, he added.
In addition to action against property crimes, the Gulgasht Division carried out a large-scale crackdown on drug peddlers and registered 282 narcotics cases during the last three months. The police recovered over 107 kilograms of Hashish, more than 19 kilograms of heroin, over 13 kilograms of ice, and 3,898 liters of liquor.
Within the Gulgasht Circle, police arrested 93 members of 41 gangs and recovered stolen propertis worth over Rs 130 million, including eight cars, one wagon, 135 tolas of gold ornaments, 81 motorcycles, 55 mobile phones, four inverters, foreign currency, and more than Rs 167 million in cash. A total of 429 cases were traced in this circle.
Similarly, the Saddar Circle arrested 49 members of 22 criminal gangs and recovered stolen properties worth over Rs 536 million. The recoveries included eight cars, one APV van, 56 tolas of gold jewelry, 34 motorcycles, 16 mobile phones, iron grills, and more than Rs 199 million in cash, with 210 cases traced.
The CPO maintained that the different teams of the police under the supervision of SSP Operations Haider Ali, SSP Investigation Muhammad Tahir, and SP Gulgasht Division Saifullah Gujar were given special task to ensure eradication of crime the city through a comprehensive crackdown against criminals. Special teams led by DSPs Arshad Qayyum and Rao Tariq Parvez, along with SHOs and their teams, utilized modern technology and police applications to trace criminal networks and recover stolen property.
CPO Sadiq Ali Dogar commended the police teams for their professionalism and dedication, stating that further operations were underway to completely eliminate crime from Multan. He also handed over recovered property to its rightful owners, who expressed satisfaction and appreciation for the police’s effective action and commitment to public safety.

FIA arrests three suspects involved in human smuggling

SARGODHA, Dec 29 (APP):The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested three suspects involved in human smuggling and visa fraud.
According to the FIA spokesperson Abdul Ghafoor here on Monday, the suspects identified as Sohail, Muhammad Ahsan, and Muhammad Ramzan, were apprehended from various areas of Faisalabad and Sargodha.
The spokesperson said that accused Sohail allegedly defrauded a citizen of Rs 2 million by promising to send him to Spain. Similarly, Muhammad Ahsan and Muhammad Ramzan are accused of taking Rs 1.2 million from a citizen on the pretext of arranging employment in Qatar.
The accused failed to send the victims abroad and went into hiding after receiving large sums of money. The spokesperson added that the suspects have been taken into custody and a formal investigation has been initiated.

82 per cent drop in head injuries after helmet enforcement: IGP Punjab

LAHORE, Dec 29 (APP): Punjab recorded zero traffic accidents in 23 districts and an 82 per cent reduction in head injuries following strict enforcement of amended traffic laws.
This was said by Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar on Monday while chairing a meeting at the Central Police Office.
The meeting reviewed the implementation of amended traffic laws introduced by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, improved traffic management measures and the overall law and order situation in the province.
The IGP Punjab indiscriminate legal action against non-standard number plates, strict enforcement of helmet usage, and action against one-way violations, overloading and other traffic offences. He directed DPOs and district traffic officers to personally remain in the field to improve traffic flow and closely monitor traffic performance indicators.
During the briefing, Additional IG Special Branch Punjab Rao Abdul Karim said that the Special Branch was regularly monitoring traffic accidents, violations of traffic laws and drug peddling. DIG Traffic Punjab Waqas Nazir said effective enforcement had led to a visible decline in serious accidents across Punjab, including Lahore. He said that over the past three weeks, 2.5 million citizens obtained driving licences, while 111,000 licences were issued through mobile licensing units.
CTO Lahore Athar Waheed said that during the past month, traffic accidents in Lahore had decreased by 47 percent.
Dr Usman directed further improvement in traffic management in districts including Lodhran, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Khanewal.
The meeting was attended by Additional IG Special Branch Rao Abdul Karim, Additional IG Operations Punjab Muhammad Ali Naikokara, DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir, CTO Lahore/DIG PHP Athar Waheed, SSP Traffic Syed Nadeem Abbas and other officers, while Additional IG South Punjab, Managing Director Punjab Safe Cities Authority, RPOs, CPOs, DPOs, CTOs and District Traffic Officers joined via video link.

Commissioner reviews WASA development projects

RAWALPINDI, Dec 29 (APP): Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Aamir Khattak on Monday chaired a meeting to review ongoing and proposed development projects of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) in Rawalpindi.
The meeting was attended by the additional commissioner (coordination), the Managing Director WASA, the assistant commissioner Cantt, the assistant commissioner City and heads of other relevant departments.
Reviewing the progress of WASA schemes, the commissioner directed that all projects should be clearly identified on maps and shared with the concerned departments so that all stakeholders must be aware of the exact locations and nature of development works.
He also stressed that assistant commissioners and relevant departments must remain fully updated on the status of schemes being executed within their respective jurisdictions.
Issuing clear instructions regarding road cutting, the commissioner said the process would be carried out strictly in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
No road cutting would be allowed without a formal no-objection certificate (NOC) from the commissioner’s office. He directed that any department or individual undertaking road cutting must deposit the required challan in advance to ensure immediate restoration and reconstruction of roads upon completion of work.
It was made clear in the meeting that road cutting without an NOC would not be permitted under any circumstances, and violations would result in the registration of FIRs.
The procedure, officials said, would apply uniformly to all entities, including Sui gas, WASA, PTCL and private organisations.
The commissioner further emphasised the need to strengthen inter-departmental coordination in all development projects, minimise inconvenience to the public and ensure timely restoration of roads. He said transparency, discipline and timely completion should remain top priorities for WASA development schemes.

DC chairs meeting to eliminate stray dogs in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, Dec 29 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema on Monday chaired a key meeting to review the ongoing campaign against stray dogs across the district.
The meeting was attended by assistant commissioners from all tehsils, representatives from the Emergency and Services (E&S) departments of tehsil headquarters and teaching hospitals, and heads of other relevant departments.
During the meeting, the officials provided a detailed update on steps taken to eliminate stray dogs, and explanations were sought from officers in areas where dog bite incidents had been reported.
The Deputy Commissioner directed that public safety and protection of property must be ensured at all times, warning that any negligence would not be tolerated. It was decided that relevant departments will hold consultative meetings twice daily and take practical measures to make operations more effective.
Dr Cheema reaffirmed his commitment to make the campaign successful through a coordinated strategy, aiming to achieve a permanent resolution of the stray dog problem across the district.

Minority cards distributed among Christian families

LAYYAH, Dec 29 (APP): Local administration distributed Minority Cards among members of the Christian community at a ceremony here Monday, reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to the welfare of minority groups.
Members of the Christian community expressed their gratitude to the Punjab government and district administration for the launch and distribution of the Minority Cards.
Assistant Commissioner Zohaib Kareem said on the occasion that Minority Card is a key welfare initiative launched by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to provide economic protection and financial support to deserving families from minority communities. He added that this program would help improve the financial conditions of underprivileged minority households and ensure their inclusion in the mainstream of society.
Zohaib Karim further stated that the Punjab Government is taking practical and concrete steps to empower minorities and safeguard their social and economic rights.
Meanwhile, the AC also visited Rehri Bazaar at Chowk Azam to review cleanliness and administrative arrangements and ordered proper sanitation services in the area.
He asked handcart vendors to conduct their businesses within designated boundaries, emphasizing that maintaining discipline and order is essential for preserving the city’s beauty.

LWMC carrying out extensive citywide cleanliness operations

LAHORE, Dec 29 (APP): The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) is carrying out its extensive citywide cleanliness operations to provide residents with a clean and healthy environment.
According to LWMC sources here on Monday as part of the ongoing efforts, door-to-door waste collection, road washing and scraping activities were being conducted across all areas of the city.
Special cleaning measures were implemented in P&T Colony, Samanabad Town, where manual sweeping and house-to-house waste collection were underway.
Early morning washing activities were also carried out around the rickshaw market and adjacent commercial areas along LOS Nala.
LWMC workers, assisted by advanced washing vehicles, actively participated in these operations to remove accumulated dirt from roadsides, footpaths and other public spaces.
Intermittent water sprinkling was also being carried out on major roads and public areas to help control smog.
All available resources were being mobilized to ensure a clean and hygienic environment for the citizens.

Political parties play vital role in strengthening federation: PA speaker

LAHORE, Dec 29 (APP): Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has said that every action of the Punjab Assembly is governed strictly by the constitution, law and established rules.
Addressing a press conference at the old building of the Punjab Assembly on Monday, he said that the sanctity of the house would not be compromised under any circumstances.
He emphasized that clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) exist regarding entry into the Assembly, guests’ access and security while strict implementation of these SOPs was mandatory.
The speaker said that the leader of the opposition had informed him about the intention of
the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister visit to the Punjab Assembly, which he welcomed and approved in principle.
However, he clarified that submission of a complete list of guests along with valid national identity cards was mandatory for entry into the Assembly, as the Punjab Assembly was a sensitive institution located within the Red Zone. Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan stated that unfortunately, individuals whose names were not included in the guest list were brought to the Assembly and some of them had a past record of involvement in riots, arson and damage to public property.
He said that in such circumstances, law enforcement agencies were compelled to intervene and such conduct could not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan announced that an inquiry committee had been constituted to investigate the incident of violence and disorder in the Punjab Assembly, and its report would be forwarded to law enforcement agencies for further action.
He stated that the first violation occurred at the entry gate of the Assembly, where rules were blatantly breached.
The speaker emphasized that political parties play a vital role in strengthening the federation, however, this requires tolerance, dialogue and strict adherence to the rule of law.
He reiterated that the Punjab Assembly was not an ordinary place where anyone could enter without authorization.
He said, “If anyone has objections to laws, policies or decisions, such matters should be raised within the House.”
He further said that acts of violence, vandalism, abuse and disorder could not  be justified as political rights.
