PFA intensifies action against adulterated milk, substandard salt in Murree, Chakwal

RAWALPINDI, Dec 04 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has stepped up its crackdown on the preparation and sale of adulterated and substandard food items across the province, a PFA spokesperson said on Thursday.

According to the spokesperson, inspections carried out in Murree and Chakwal led to the disposal of a large quantity of adulterated milk and inferior-quality salt, while strict legal action was initiated against several milk shops and production units.

The spokesperson said that during sampling at milk shops on Lower Mall and Cart Road in Murree, the presence of dry powder was confirmed in the milk. The PFA teams subsequently discarded nearly 500 litres of adulterated milk on the spot. Cases were registered against four milk shops found guilty of adulteration, and the premises were sealed.

He added that ensuring safe and quality food for residents and tourists in Murree remained a top priority. Routine inspections of various food outlets and milk shops were being carried out daily. Citizens and tourists were urged to report complaints to the PFA helpline 1223.

In Chakwal, the PFA Rawalpindi Division teams conducted an operation at a salt production unit located in the Small Industrial Estate on Rawalpindi Road. After laboratory analysis declared the samples unfit, around 10,000 kilograms of substandard salt was destroyed. The unit was also fined Rs30,000 for producing salt with iodine content below the approved standard.

The spokesperson said that inspections of all major and minor food production units across the province were under way to ensure the supply of safe and quality food to the public.

18 arrested in crackdown on illegal kidney transplant networks

PESHAWAR, Dec 04 (APP):The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched a major crackdown against illegal kidney transplant networks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, uncovering the involvement of five organized groups engaged in unlawful organ transplantation.
According to FIA officials on Thursday, 18 suspects have been arrested over the past year, while five illegal transplant centers have been sealed during the operations. Investigations revealed that patients in need of kidney transplants were being charged between Rs. 4 to 5 million per procedure.
Authorities disclosed that patients from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar were mostly shifted to Rawalpindi for surgeries, whereas medical samples of both patients and donors were collected in Peshawar. It was further revealed that most agents and surgeons involved in the illegal trade belong to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
During the crackdown, four illegal centers operating in residential houses in Peshawar, Nowshera, and Mardan were sealed. It was also disclosed that setting up such a center costs approximately Rs. 3 million and to avoid detection, these facilities were often established inside private homes.
The investigation found that patients were charged up to Rs. 5 million, while donors received only a small share of around Rs. 300,000. The remaining amount was distributed among agents, surgeons, and other staff.
Sources confirmed that eight FIRs have been registered this year against those involved in the illegal organ trade. Under the law, the accused face up to 10 years of imprisonment and the professional licenses of the involved surgeons are also being suspended.

Mansehra administration issues final 7-day notice to illegal foreign residents

MANSEHRA, Dec 04 (APP):The District Administration and District Police Mansehra on Thursday have issued an important notice to all illegally residing foreign nationals across the district, directing them to vacate the area within seven days.
The directive follows the provincial government’s orders issued through letter No. F-4(7)-RR/25 dated 13 October 2025, under which the eviction of illegal residents is already underway.
According to the notice, all illegal foreign nationals must voluntarily leave District Mansehra by 11 December 2025. Authorities warned that after the deadline, strict legal action will be taken against any citizen found renting out their house, shop, or property to illegal foreign individuals.
Additionally, landowners who have provided private land for Afghan refugee camps have been instructed to submit their applications along with relevant documents to the Deputy Commissioner Mansehra’s office. This will allow the administration to formally return the land to its rightful owners.
The district administration and police emphasized their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and welfare of the public.

BCB revise match start time of Pakistan-Bangladesh Women’s U19 T20 series

ISLAMABAD, Dec 04 (APP): The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has revised the match start time of the Pakistan-Bangladesh, Women’s U19 T20 series.
According to BCB, due to early sunset in Cox’s Bazar, the Women’s Wing of BCB has revised the match start time.
From the next matches onward, the match will now begin at 1pm local time instead of 1:30pm. (Pakistan time: Start 12pm; Toss 11.30am).
It may be mentioned that Pakistan’s Eman Naseer and Bangladesh’s Sadia Islam are leading their respective U19 teams in the five-match T20 series.
The series began on December 3, with Pakistan securing a thrilling 13-run win in the first T20. The second T20 of the five-match series will be played at the same venue on Friday. followed by December 7, 10 and 12.

PHP Sargodha reports major arrests, safety drives in Nov 2025

SARGODHA, Dec 04 (APP):The Punjab Highways Patrolling (PHP) Police Sargodha region on Thursday released its performance report for November 2025, highlighting arrests, traffic enforcement, safety awareness drives and revenue collection.
According to a PHP spokesperson, 78 proclaimed offenders, including 22 court absconders, were arrested during the month. The force also imposed 58,942 challans for various traffic violations — such as overloading — collecting Rs 35.685 million in revenue.
The PHP teams checked 522,634 people and 338,157 vehicles through the e-police app, while speed-camera units issued challans to 535 vehicles for traffic violations. Additionally, 278 FIRs were registered against vehicles carrying illegal gas cylinders.
In efforts to promote road safety, PHP delivered 1,740 awareness lectures across different institutions, and issued 4,523 driving licences during November.

DPO Abbottabad holds weekly orderly room for timely resolution of police personnel’s issues

ABBOTTABAD, Dec 04 (APP):District Police Officer (DPO) Abbottabad Haroon Rasheed Khan convened a weekly orderly room to address the professional, administrative, and welfare-related issues of police officers and personnel.
Officers and staff from across the district participated in the session.
During the meeting, officials presented their concerns, which were heard attentively by the DPO. He issued on-the-spot directives to the relevant officers and ensured immediate action on several complaints.
DPO Haroon Rasheed Khan emphasized that resolving the problems of police personnel is a top priority to enhance the overall performance of the force. He noted that the system of reward and punishment will continue with full transparency to maintain discipline, while officers demonstrating exceptional performance will be encouraged.
He expressed hope that police officers and personnel will keep fulfilling their responsibilities with dedication, honesty, and professionalism to further improve the law and order situation in the district.

Gold price drops by Rs1,700 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Dec 4 (APP):Gold prices of per tola 24-karat gold on Thursday dropped by Rs1,700 per tola to Rs441,462, compared to Rs.443,162, according to the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association.
The price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold fell by Rs1,457 to Rs378,482, while 10 grams of 22-karat gold were priced at Rs346,954 after a decrease of Rs1,336.
In the international market, gold slipped by $17, settling at $4,191 per ounce.
Similarly, the price of 24-karat silver per tola decreased by Rs85 to Rs6,000, while the rate for 10 grams dipped by Rs72 to Rs5,144. International silver also fell by $0.85 to $57.28 per ounce.

Karachi hosts reception in honor of Int’l Qirrat Competition winners

ISLAMABAD, Dec 04 (APP):Karachi has hosted a reception in honor of the winners of the International Qirrat Competition 2025.
The event, organized by the Auqaf, Religious Affairs, Zakat and Ushr Department Sindh, was graced by Minister Riaz Hussain Shah Sheerazi.
Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Islamabad, Ahmed Nadeem Khan; Muhammad Mureed Rahimon, Secretary Auqaf Sindh; and DG R&R Religious Affairs Islamabad, Hafiz Abdul Qudoos, were also in attendance.
The dstinguished Qaris, who secured top positions in the competition, presented a soulful recitations of the Holy Quran. Their performances were met with enthusiastic applause from all participants.
In his remarks, Minister Riaz Hussain Shah Sheerazi welcomed the guests and lauded the Qaris for their outstanding performance.
Joint Secretary Ahmed Nadeem Khan expressed gratitude to the Sindh government for its support, noting that Pakistan successfully hosted the International Qirrat Competition for the first time. He added that the ministry aims to organize the competition again in the future.

Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan urge Afghan Taliban regime to meet global commitments, act against terrorist groups

ISLAMABAD, Dec 4 (APP): Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan on Thursday underscoring the importance of regional peace and stability, agreed that Afghan Taliban regime must honor its commitments to the international community, and address Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns, by taking concrete and verifiable actions against terrorist entities.

The bilateral and regional ties were discussed during the delegation level talks held at the Prime Minister House.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov Nurgozhoevich led their respective sides at a delegation level meeting in the Prime Minister House.

Both leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful and stable Afghanistan and a sustainable future for its people.

During the talks, both sides also exchanged views on important regional and global developments. While expressing their concern over the escalating threats to peace and security in the region, they agreed that disputes must be resolved through peaceful means in accordance with international law including the UN Charter, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

The two sides also exchanged views on the ongoing peace efforts in Gaza and reiterated their unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of a sovereign, viable, contiguous, and independent Palestinian state, based on pre-June 1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

During the talks, the prime minister was assisted by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, Federal Ministers and senior government officials.

The prime minister emphasized that Pakistan attached high importance to its brotherly relations with the Kyrgyz Republic.

He reiterated Pakistan’s abiding commitment to enhancing its engagement with the Central Asian states under the “Vision Central Asia” policy.

Both leaders emphasized the significance of expanding and deepening Pakistan-Kyrgyz relations, that were underpinned by historic links, cultural similarities, shared values, and a common vision for regional peace and prosperity. They reviewed progress on existing cooperation frameworks and reaffirmed their shared resolve to further strengthen this partnership, particularly in the areas of trade, energy, connectivity and people-to-people contacts.

Highlighting the need to enhance economic cooperation, the two sides agreed to expand bilateral trade and investment, setting a target of USD 200 million bilateral trade volume by 2027-28, through effective implementation of the signed agreements/MoUs and a result-oriented approach. The two leaders noted with satisfaction the fruitful Fifth meeting of the Kyrgyz-Pakistan Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, held in Islamabad, on 28-29 July 2025.

Both sides recognized the importance of energy connectivity for regional stability. They reiterated their shared vision of timely and effective implementation of the CASA-1000 project, which represents a cornerstone of regional energy cooperation and a vital link between Central and South Asia.

The two leaders also stressed upon the vital need for well developed, secure, sustainable and diversified connectivity routes between Kyrgyz Republic and Pakistan to ensure the further enhancement of bilateral as well as regional trade. In this regard, they expressed satisfaction over operationalization of the road corridor between Pakistan and Kyrgyz Republic under Quadrilateral Traffic in Transit Agreement (QTTA).

During the talks, both sides also exchanged views on important regional and global developments. While expressing their concern over the escalating threats to peace and security in the region, they agreed that disputes must be resolved through peaceful means in accordance with international law including the UN Charter, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Thereafter, both leaders witnessed the exchange of 15 MoUs and agreements in various sectors including energy, mining, trade, education, law & justice, agriculture, culture and tourism.

Earlier, upon arrival at the Prime Minister’s House, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic was presented guard of honour by a contingent of Pakistan’s armed forces.

The prime minister also hosted a luncheon in honor of the Kyrgyz President and his delegation. Both leaders also addressed a joint press conference.

Four of a family injured in gas cylinder explosion

PESHAWAR, Dec 04 (APP):At least Four people were injured in a gas cylinder explosion inside a house in the Nasapa area here on Thursday.
According to police, the incident occurred at the residence owned by Waris on Charsadda Road, where a gas cylinder exploded, leaving four people with burn injuries.
Upon receiving information, Rescue 1122 ambulances and medical teams rushed to the site and provided first aid to the injured on the spot before shifting them to Lady Reading Hospital.
 The injured include 38-year-old Waris, 30-year-old woman and two children, Yousuf (4) and Asad (3). Hospital sources confirmed that all the victims are receiving treatment.
 Police have started investigating the cause of the explosion.
