Governor praises Forces for successful operation against terrorists in Bajaur

PESHAWAR, Dec 29 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Monday paid rich tribute to the security forces for carrying out a successful operation against Indian-backed terrorists in the Khar area of merged district Bajaur, in which five terrorists were killed.
The Governor lauded the professional skills, bravery and commitment of the security forces for effectively confronting and eliminating the terrorists.
He said such successful operations are a clear reflection of the armed forces’ unwavering resolve to eradicate terrorism from the country.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also paid glowing tribute to Major Adeel Zaman, who embraced martyrdom during the exchange of fire with the terrorists. He expressed heartfelt condolences and deep sympathy with the bereaved family of the martyred officer, praying for patience and strength for them in this hour of grief.
The Governor said that Major Adeel Zaman, who belonged to Dera Ismail Khan, was a brave son of the soil whose sacrifice would always be remembered with pride.
“The people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the entire nation are indebted to Major Adeel Zaman and all our martyrs for their supreme sacrifices,” he added.
He further said that the sacrifices of the martyrs would not go in vain and that terrorists would be eliminated completely.
The Governor emphasized that the entire nation stands united with its brave armed forces in the war against terrorism and will continue to support them till lasting peace is achieved.

Haval steals PakWheels auto show

Reading books can raise vision; Senator Sarmad Ali inaugurates 2nd KFBL

KARACHI, Dec 29 (APP):Senator Sarmad Ali, Chairman Senate Library Committee and President, All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), inaugurated the second edition of the Karachi Festival of Books and Libraries (KFBL) in a graceful ceremony here at the Habitt City on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Senator Sarmad highlighted the virtues of book reading and urged the people not to abandon the passion of reading books despite the invasion of digital gadgets.
“It is universally accepted that books change our lives and enhance our wisdom and vision. We must continue reading books to keep progressing in life and achieving our goals,” he remarked.
“My mission is to promote book reading culture and play my due role in this direction at the national level. He suggested designating and celebrating a National Library Day as well as National Book Reading Day every year,” Senator Sarmad, who heads Senate of Pakistan’s Library Committee, observed.
Senator Sarmad backed the proposal of holding similar Festival of Books and Libraries in Lahore, Islamabad and other cities of Pakistan, besides continuing to do it in Karachi, assuring his full support to such events, which, he reckoned, will revive the reading culture.
However, he expressed optimism over the revival of reading culture, citing the Karachi International Book Fair, which attracted nearly 500,000 visitors.
Upon arrival, he was welcomed by the KFBL Co-founders, Aziz Memon and Syed Khalid Mahmood. The opening session was also attended by Murad Ali Mohmand, Secretary, National Book Foundation (NBF), Hasnain Shah, Assistant Director, and National Library of Pakistan (NLP), besides former cricket umpire, Mahboob Shah, and renowned hotelier, Azeem Qureshi.
Aziz Memon, International President of the English-Speaking Union (ESU), announced that the KFBL, launched in 2024, will now be expanded to Lahore and Islamabad, with the collaboration of various stakeholders, next year, as he felt that such events were vitally important for improving the mental health of the nation.
Syed Khalid Mahmood, who conducted the proceedings, informed the audience about the salient features of the 2nd KFBL 2025, which will continue until tomorrow (Tuesday). More than a dozen sessions, to be participated and moderated by leading personalities, are planned to be held during the two-day festival.
All the speakers appreciated the KFBL Co-founders for putting together a big event and such a major venue. Dr Beenish Khalid was recognized on the occasion for her overwhelming contribution in promoting the event. A large number of intellectuals and high achievers from different fields of life also attended the opening ceremony.

NCCIA arrests 2902 accused in cybercrime cases during 2025

ISLAMABAD, Dec 29 (APP): The National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has completed investigations into 2196 major cybercrime cases in which 2902 accused were arrested while convictions were obtained in 774 cases during the year of 2025.
According to the annual report, Rs461 million were recovered from victims of online fraud and financial crimes this year. More than 46 thousand fake bank accounts and digital wallets were frozen while 5 major local and international cybercrime networks were dismantled.
Similarly, 35 arrests were made in Operation Brown against online exploitation of children. It said that the NCCIA has introduced a cyber intelligence system based on modern AI and machine learning, for which more than 300 officers are being provided with advanced cyber investigation training.
The cybercrime awareness campaign reached 2 million citizens and more than 30 advisories were issued on phishing, identity theft and crypto fraud.
The NCCIA has further strengthened its cooperation with other international organizations including Interpol and has also announced the launch of a National Cybercrimes Reporting Portal next year. In this regard, it has been decided to form joint investigation teams with key economic sectors.

Traffic accidents claim 199 lives, injure over 18,000 in Rawalpindi in 2025

RAWALPINDI, Dec 29 (APP):A total of 199 people were killed and more than 18,000 injured in road traffic accidents reported across the Rawalpindi District during 2025, according to the data released by Rescue 1122 on Monday.
A Rescue 1122 spokesperson said that during the outgoing year, the Emergency Rescue Service Rawalpindi responded to 16,626 road traffic accidents, affecting a total of 18,633 individuals. Of those, 199 people lost their lives, while 8,472 sustained serious injuries and 9,962 suffered minor injuries.
The emergency service, he said, provided timely assistance to all victims, maintaining its average response time and reaching accident sites promptly, which played a crucial role in saving lives.
According to the data, car drivers and motorcyclists accounted for the majority of those involved in accidents. Among the affected individuals, 15,661 were men and 2,972 were women. Over speeding, careless driving, one-wheeling, improper turning, tyre bursts and other factors were cited as the main causes of accidents.
The statistics further showed that the most affected age group ranged between 11 and 40 years, indicating higher vulnerability due to non-compliance with road safety measures.
The spokesperson said the Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi was not only providing prompt emergency response but was also actively working to reduce traffic accidents through awareness programmes, training workshops and other initiatives at schools, colleges and public places to promote safe driving habits.
He appealed to the public to exercise caution on roads, adhere to speed limits and avoid one-wheeling and other dangerous practices to prevent further accidents and loss of life.

900 kites confiscated, 6 kite sellers arrested during crackdown

RAWALPINDI, Dec 29 (APP):The Rawalpindi Police have arrested six kite sellers and confiscated 900 kites and 10 strings from their possession during a separate operation here on Monday.
According to a police spokesperson, Taxila Police held two kite sellers and recovered 400 kites along with six strings.
Similarly, Gujar Khan Police have arrested three kite sellers and seized 300 kites, while Dhamiyal Police apprehended a kite seller and recovered 200 kites and four strings. Separate cases have been registered against each of the arrested individuals.
The police spokesperson further added that kite flying has been declared a non-bailable offence and warned that those involved in this dangerous activity will not escape the law.

DPM reaffirms Pakistan’s support for China on core issues

ISLAMABAD, Dec 29 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held meeting with ambassador of China Jiang Zaidong Monday afternoon and discussed matters of mutual interest.
Ambassador Jiang conveyed season’s Greetings and best wishes for new year to DPM/FM on behalf of FM Wang Yi. While reciprocating New Year’s greetings, DPM/FM appreciated China’s strong support for Pakistan’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national development.
DPM/FM reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm support for China on all core issues including the adherence to the One-China Principle.
He reiterated that Pakistan recognizes the People’s Republic of China as the sole legitimate government representing all China, with Taiwan being an inalienable part of China.
Both sides reviewed the overall state of bilateral relations and agreed that their all weather strategic partnership remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy and an anchor for regional peace and security.

Woman dies after eight-day struggle following phone blackmailing attempt in Havelian; suspect arrested

HAVELIAN, Dec 29 (APP):A woman who had attempted suicide by consuming poisonous insecticide due to alleged phone blackmail has died after remaining in a critical condition for eight days, prompting police to take swift action and arrest the accused.
According to police, the incident occurred on December 22, 2025, when Noreen, wife of Hafiz Akhtar and a resident of Chandni Chowk, Havelian village, ingested a toxic substance. Initially, no police report was filed and the incident was described as a result of mental depression.
However, during an independent inquiry, police recorded the victim’s statement in which she disclosed that she had been subjected to continuous phone blackmail for the past six to seven months. She alleged that Aamir, son of Sarwar, also a resident of Chandni Chowk, had been threatening her and demanding money, warning of physical and financial harm in case of non-compliance.
After the woman succumbed to her condition, police registered Case No. 1144 dated 25/12/2025 under sections 451, 386, 506 PPC and Section 25-D of the Telegraph Act on the directives of the District Police Officer, SP Havelian Division, and DSP Havelian.
SHO Cadet Abdul Ghafoor of Havelian Police Station arrested the accused and sent him to jail. Police also took into custody a Suzuki vehicle bearing registration number C-5543 (trailer) as part of the investigation.

SSP Investigation reviews probe into minor girl’s assault case in Kahuta

RAWALPINDI, Dec 29 (APP):On the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Nasir Ali Khan visited the Kahuta police station to review the investigation into the assault case of a minor girl.
During the visit, the SSP Investigation examined the progress of the probe and issued instructions to ensure that the case is concluded strictly on merit.
He directed investigators to utilise modern investigation techniques so that the accused would be awarded exemplary punishment.
As part of the review, the SSP Investigation also met the affected child.
Police said that three suspects, including a woman, have been arrested so far in the case, while further investigation is in progress.

IHC suspends FIA notice against CDA member Estate

ISLAMABAD, Dec 29 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday suspended the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s notice to Capital Development Authority (CDA)’s member Estate Muhammad Afnan Alam and sought comments from the respondents.
IHC’s Justice Arbar Muhammad Tahir heard the case filed by CDA’s member against the FIA inquiry. The petitioner’s lawyer adopted the stance that the FIA had conducted its inquiry against him but its finding couldn’t be shared yet. The FIA also recorded the statement of the petitioner, it said.
However, the FIA had served again notice to the petitioner. The petitioner’s lawyer told the court that his client’s parent department is Auditor General Office but he is serving in CDA since July 2021.
After hearing the arguments, the court suspended the FIA notice till next hearing and sought response from the investigation agency. The hearing was adjourned till January 19.
