PSX witnesses bullish trend, gains 81.79 points

ISLAMABAD, Jun 16 (APP): The 100-Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a bullish trend on Monday, gaining 81.79 points, a positive change of 0.07 percent, closing at 122,225.36 points as compared to 122,143.57 points on the last trading day.

A total of 1,224,178,443 shares were traded during the day as compared to 968,346,528 shares the previous trading day, whereas the price of shares stood at Rs 25.750 billion against Rs 29.558 billion on the last trading day.

As many as 471 companies transacted their shares in the stock market, 282 of them recorded gains and 159 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 30 companies remained unchanged.

The three top trading companies were WorldCall Telecom with 267,081,176 shares at Rs 1.62 per share, Pervez Ahmed Co. with 92,031,551 shares at Rs 3.93 per share and 1st.Capital Sec with 86,020,335 shares at Rs 3.85 per share.

Macter International Limited witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 38.61 per share closing at Rs424.71 whereas runner-up was Blessed Textiles Limited with Rs26.89 rise in its share price to close at Rs304.91.

PIA Holding Company LimitedB witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 1,888.91 per share price, closing at Rs 17,000.19, whereas the runner-up Khyber Textile Mills Limited with Rs 179.45 decline in its per share price to Rs 1,615.10.

DPM/FM Dar stresses upon importance of further expanding Pak-Japan relations

ISLAMABAD, June 16 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar Monday emphasized the importance of further expanding Pakistan-Japan bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, IT and industrial cooperation.

He expressed these views during a meeting with Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Japan Abdul Hameed Bhutta who paid a farewell call on him, Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a press release.

Pakistan Hajj Mission celebrates success of 2025 Hajj operations, vows further improvements

MAKKAH, Jun 16 (APP):The Pakistan Hajj Mission honored the exceptional performance of its welfare staff, whose relentless efforts contributed to the seamless execution of the 2025 Hajj.
Federal Secretary for the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dr. Syed Ata Ur Rehman was the chief guest at the ceremony to celebrate the success of Hajj 2025.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Syed Ata Ur Rehman said that a thousand-mile journey begins with a single step. He underscored the need for meticulous planning and early training for both staff and pilgrims. “We will prepare our staff, especially Nazims, well in advance for the upcoming Hajj,” he said.
He said that similarly, from the moment pilgrims enroll, their training will commence to ensure they are fully prepared for the sacred journey.
Highlighting the ministry’s commitment to excellence, the Secretary said the strict criteria for selecting Seasonal Duty Staff (SDS), welfare staff, and medical personnel. “Specialization will be our focus,” he remarked.
He went on to say that candidates must demonstrate thorough knowledge of Mina and Arafat’s geography. Transparency and equity will be paramount in all appointments, he added.
He credited the success of Hajj 2025 to ideal coordination between the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Office of Pilgrim Affairs Pakistan (OPAP). “Our teams were fully integrated, working in perfect harmony,” he said.
Moving forward, he emphasized that coordination and teamwork would be further enhanced to deliver an even better Hajj experience.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General (DG) Hajj Abdul Wahab Somroo lauded the welfare staff for their tireless efforts, attributing this year’s success to their dedication. “Because of your hard work, Hajj 2025 was a triumph,” he said.
He said “We will not rest on our laurels. Next year, we aim to do even better.”
He emphasized that priority would be given to ground-floor rooms for senior pilgrims in Makkah, Madinah, Mina, and Arafat. “Every year, we introduce new measures to enrich the Hajj experience, and we will continue to innovate,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Coordinator of Makkah, Dr. Mirza Ali Mehsood said that Allah Almighty has entrusted them with this noble duty, and there is immense divine reward in serving His guests.
He commended Dr. Syed Ata Ur Rehman for spearheading the implementation of the National Testing Service (NTS) system in staff selection, which ensures transparency, fairness, and merit-based appointments.
Regarding this year’s Nazim system, Dr. Mehsood said that it is a highly commendable initiative that should be further strengthened.
“The pre-Hajj operations were a success, and we will now apply the same dedication and diligence to post-Hajj services to ensure seamless facilitation for Pakistani pilgrims,” he remarked.
Coordinator Makkah Zulfiqar Khan expressed deep appreciation for the Hajj 2025 team, adding, “My heartfelt gratitude goes to every member who worked day and night to ensure the pilgrims’ comfort and safety.”
Other officials, including Coordinator F&C Sajjad Haider Yaldarm and Director Makkah Azizullah Khan, also spoke on the occasion.

PM takes notice of media reports over tax defaulters’ arrests, forms special committee

ISLAMABAD, June 16 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday took a notice of media reports regarding the arrest of tax defaulters and issued strict instructions that no such legal amendments should be used to harass the business community or taxpayers under any circumstances.

The prime minister directed the formation of a special committee on this matter.

The prime minister chaired a review meeting of matters related to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

The prime minister was briefed that the legal provisions for the arrest of sales tax defaulters had been part of the law since the 1990s, however, in the light of decisions by the courts, amendments were being made to these clauses to make them more coherent.

The meeting was attended by the Ministers for Defence, Law, Commerce, Economic Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, Minister of State for Railways, Chairman FBR, economic experts, and senior officials.

After thoroughly reviewing the matter, the prime minister opined that harassing regular taxpayers was unacceptable.

“The respect and dignity of the business community and investors is of utmost importance to us and any unjustified harassment is intolerable,” the press release quoted the prime minister as saying.

He further instructed that the mandate of arrest under relevant tax laws should be limited only to cases involving defaulters of an extraordinary scale.

The prime minister also directed that an effective system of external review and checks and balances be put in place regarding arrests.

Provisions related to protection against misuse of these laws should be included in the Finance Act, he further observed.

He further directed that all allied parties of the government in the parliament should be consulted on this matter.

Gold prices decrease by Rs.700 to Rs.362,300 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Jun 16 (APP):The price of 24 karat per tola gold decreased by Rs.700 and was traded at Rs.362,300 on Monday compared to its sale at Rs.363,000 on the last trading day, All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewelers Association reported.
The prices of 10 grams of 24 karat also decreased by Rs.600 to Rs.310,613 from Rs.311,213 and for 10 grams of 22 Karat it came down by Rs550 to Rs.284,738 from Rs. 285,288.
The rates of per tola silver and and ten gram silver remained unchanged and closed at Rs.3,787 and Rs.3,246 respectively.
The price of gold in the international market decreased by $18 to $3,414, whereas the prices of silver remained stagnant at $36.29, the Association reported.

UAE judoka wins world bronze, tops Arab rankings

BUDAPEST, Jun 16 (WAM/APP): UAE national judo team athlete Mohamed Yazbek secured the bronze medal in the under-81kg category at the OTP Bank World Judo Championships, currently taking place in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, with participation from 93 countries.

His achievement placed the UAE first among Arab nations and 12th globally in the overall tournament standings.

Yazbek earned his podium finish after an impressive run in a highly competitive group that included 45 internationally ranked judokas. He clinched victory in the bronze medal contest against Serbia’s Mohamed Bekov, marking one of the team’s most notable results in global tournaments leading up to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The Emirati athlete came close to reaching the final but was narrowly defeated in the quarter-final by France’s Joan-Benjamin Gaba, the reigning world champion and Olympic medallist.

The championship continues into its fifth day with the heavyweight under-90kg category, where UAE’s Suleiman Ibrahim is set to face Senegal’s Abdoul Rahman Diaw.

Mustafa Kamal calls all sectors to unite for polio-free Pakistan

QUETTA, Jun 16 (APP):Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal on Monday urged politicians, religious scholars, academia, civil society’s members, parents and media to use their influence with renewed determination by actively participating in the anti-polio campaign to help ensure a polio-free Pakistan in the near future.
Addressing a press conference after chairing a review meeting on polio eradication held here which was attended by key stakeholders, including the Capt. (Retd) Anwar Ul Haq, National Coordinator for Polio, Secretary Health Balochistan Mujeeb-Ur-Rehman Panezai, Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Coordinator Balochistan Inam Ul Haq, as well as representatives from, WHO, UNICEF, and provincial health authorities, Mustafa Kamal stressed to intensifying polio eradication efforts aimed to vacinate the children against the crippling disease.
He warned that “if we do not take things seriously, Pakistan risks becoming the last country where polio persists as the virus is remain active in only two countries.”
Kamal mentioned that the Afghanistan will be polio-free country as the current Afghan government is running extensive door to door anti-polio campaign in all provinces to administer the anti-polio drops to children up to five years of age.
He pointed out that all Muslim countries and others around the world have eliminated polio by using the same vaccine currently being administered in Pakistan.
“Due to the widespread presence of the polio virus in the environment of all districts, it can attack children. To prevent this, it is essential that children receive both the polio drops,” he added.
Mustafa Kamal called the parents to administered vaccination, assuring them that these steps would help protect their families from lifelong disabilities and even death.
Syed Mustafa Kamal announced that no polio cases have been reported from Balochistan so far this year. He credited the ongoing robust efforts under the leadership of the Prime Minister for the encouraging development.
Minister Kamal emphasized that both federal and provincial governments are united in their commitment to eradicating polio from Pakistan. “Reject all negative narratives and ensure that every child is vaccinated,” he urged. “The entire nation must unite against polio, and our frontline polio workers are our true heroes.”
Mustafa praised the dedication and sacrifices of polio workers, adding that the nation salutes their unwavering efforts. He said that despite the toughest weather conditions, polio workers have carried out their national duty with dedication and excellence, helping to control the epidemic.
The minister also called upon religious scholars, teachers, and community elders to actively support polio vaccination campaigns.
Highlighting the severity of the disease, Kamal noted that while cancer has treatment options, polio remains incurable. “The only prevention is vaccination,” he stressed.
 “The polio vaccine is safe, effective, and thoroughly tested,” Kamal said, encouraging parents to trust the science and cooperate with health workers. “Every member of society must play their part in the polio campaign. The future of our children depends on the decisions we make today.”
He concluded by urging citizens to take personal responsibility by ensuring children in their communities are vaccinated. “Invite polio workers into your homes and make sure your children receive the dropsit’s a matter of national duty and our children’s future.”

Xi’s entourage includes Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, and Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and foreign minister.

Saba Talpur takes oath as MNA

ISLAMABAD, Jun 16 (APP):Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Saba Talpur took oath as a Member of National Assembly (MNA) on Monday following her victory in NA-213 Umerkot-I by-election.
 The oath was administered by Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah, after which she signed the assembly’s registration roll.
Talpur won the seat by defeating independent candidate Lal Chand Malhi, who was supported by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), and others.
