Rupee gains 01 paisa against US Dollar

ISLAMABAD, Aug 11 (APP):The Rupee on Monday appreciated by 01 paisa against the US Dollar in the interbank trading and closed at Rs 282.45 against the previous day’s closing Rs 282.46.
However, according to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of the dollar in the open market stood at Rs 284.1 and Rs 285.6, respectively.
The price of the Euro decreased by 54 pasia to close at Rs 328.83 against the last day’s closing of Rs 329.37, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The Japanese yen remained unchanged and closed at Rs 1.91, whereas an increase of Rs 0.21 was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which was traded at Rs 380.07 compared to the previous day’s closing of Rs 379.86.
The exchange rates of the Emirates Dirham and the Saudi Riyal also remained stagnant and closed at Rs 76.90 and Rs 75.26, respectively.

Asif survives German challenge in World Games billiards battle

CHENGDU, China, Aug 11 (APP):Pakistan’s billiards maestro Muhammad Asif staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Germany’s Alexander Widau 2-1 in a pulsating Group B clash at the World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China on Monday.
The high-stakes encounter at the Civil Aviation Flight University’s Tianfu Campus Gymnasium had fans gripping their seats as momentum swung wildly between the two cue masters.
The German challenger drew first blood, dominating the opening frame 43-29 with clinical precision. Undeterred, Asif responded with a masterclass in the second, firing a spectacular 116-09 reply – the tournament’s highest break so far to level the contest. The decisive frame became a tactical chess match, with both players trading safety shots before Asif pounced on a critical error by Widau to seal a dramatic 67-32 victory and book his quarterfinal berth.
“This was pure test of nerve,” an elated Asif told APP..
“When Widau took that first frame, I knew I had to dig into my deepest reserves. That century break was crucial. It broke his rhythm and gave me the psychological edge.”
The victory marks Asif’s second consecutive win in Chengdu, following his straight-sets demolition of China’s Liang Xiaolong. He has made it to the knockout stage now.

Punjab govt announced new OPD timings in hospitals

RAWALPINDI, Aug 11 (APP):The Punjab government’s Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department has announced new OPD timings in the public sector hospitals to maintain hospital management as well as better treatment for the patients.
A notification setting new official timings for the OPDs and tertiary care hospitals has been issued effective immediately, according to which the new schedule is from 8:00 a.m.to 3:00 p.m. during Monday to Thursday & Saturday, and from 8:00 a.m to 01:00 p.m. on Friday.
The new time table is expected to enhance healthcare facilities in the allied hospitals.

Five cops transferred

According to police sources, SHO Shah Nikdur inspector Arbab Toufail Khan has been transferred to police station Phularwan as station house officer; sub-inspector Muhammad Touqeer Khan Baloch was made SHO Shah Nikdur; Inspector Amar Khan was transferred from police lines to PS Shah Nikdur; Inspector Muhammad Asim was posted as SHO Sadr
Shahpur from police lines while Inspector Waqar Ahmed was directed to report at PS city Shahpur PS from police lines.

No threat to Bahria Town properties, legal rights fully protected: NAB

ISLAMABAD, Aug 11 (APP): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Islamabad has reassured Bahria Town residents and property owners that their legal rights, assets, and investments are fully protected, despite the circulation of misleading and malicious narratives by certain elements.
In a statement issued Monday, a NAB spokesperson described the rumors as part of a calculated and well-orchestrated conspiracy aimed at intimidating individuals and coercing them into selling their properties at deflated prices under false pretenses.
NAB regards the concerned residents and property owners as victims of deception and fraud, and has pledged to make every possible effort to safeguard their rights and ensure justice.
The Bureau emphasized that such tactics are being used to exploit lawful owners and create unwarranted panic.
NAB clarified that its ongoing actions related to Bahria Town are strictly confined to its owners and their associated properties.
The Bureau reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing legal proceedings independently and without external influence, until the individuals involved comply with the law and return the misappropriated funds.
NAB has urged all Bahria Town residents and property owners to ignore any misleading or malicious information and to carry on with their daily lives without concern. The Bureau also encouraged them to promptly report any suspicious activity or attempts at harassment to NAB authorities.

First batch of Sindh doctors arrives in China for Traditional Chinese Medicine Training

ISLAMABAD, Aug 11 (APP):The first group of doctors from Sindh has arrived in China to begin specialized training in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), marking a significant step in Pakistan-China healthcare collaboration.
The opening ceremony took place on Monday at the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, where six Pakistani doctors-nominated by the Government of Sindh-commenced their advanced training.
The initiative is supported by Hunan University of Medicine and Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, aiming to build capacity for specialized TCM practice in Pakistan.
Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH and guest of honor at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary hailed the program as a new chapter in the flourishing Pakistan-China partnership in healthcare and traditional medicine. He credited Prof. Dr. Xinmin Liu for his pivotal role in establishing the China-Pakistan Joint Center for Traditional Medicine, launching joint research projects, and creating extensive training opportunities.
Dr. Choudhary also highlighted ongoing collaborations supported by NATCM and COMSTECH, spanning technician and post-doctoral training, space medicine research, AI applications in biomedical sciences, and joint projects at leading Chinese institutions.
Appreciating the leadership of Sindh Health Minister, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho and the provincial government, Dr. Choudhary said their commitment to sending Pakistani doctors for TCM training will enhance healthcare capacity back home. He emphasized that Pakistan and China, celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations, share a rich heritage of traditional healing systems- TCM and Unani-which can be integrated with modern, evidence-based practices for public benefit.
Other speakers included Mr. He Qinghu, President of Hunan University of Medicine; Mr. Yin Shengxin, First Secretary at the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan; Mr. Khan Muhammad Wazir, Science and Technology Counsellor at the Pakistani Embassy in China; Mr. Tan Hu, Secretary of the First Affiliated Hospital; Mr. Hu Sha, Faculty Representative; Mr. He Ke, Director of the Comprehensive Department, Hunan Provincial Administration of TCM; and Dr. Dabeer Ahmed Khan, representing the trainees.
The distinguished attendees included Mr. Tian Xuefei, Director of the International Exchange Office, Hunan University of Chinese Medicine; Mr. Du Qiaobei from Ningbo University’s New Drug Technology Research Institute; senior scientists; and faculty members from both institutions.
Dr. Choudhary concluded by expressing gratitude to the leadership of both universities for their commitment to advancing health sciences cooperation, reaffirming COMSTECH’s dedication to supporting impactful, people-centered scientific collaboration between Pakistan and China.

Vaccination campaign for cattle

Sialkot, Aug 11 (APP):The livestock department Pasrur started a vaccination campaign to protect livestock from Haemorrhagic Septicaemia, locally known as “Gal Ghotu,” during the monsoon.
Assistant Director Dr Aqil Sohail said trained veterinary teams are administering vaccines door-to-door to cattle using long needles for effective protection.
He urged farmers to cooperate by restraining animals. The campaign will continue in the current and the next months.

Four milk shops penalized

MULTAN, Aug 11 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) imposed fine of Rs 32,000 on four milk shops for selling adulterated milk in the city, and penalized five meat shops for poor hygiene and sanitation condition.
The PFA’s Food Safety teams conducted surprise visits to multiple milk and meat shops and checked 27 milk shops and 15 meat shops.
The teams discarded 41 liters adulterated milk on the spot.

Dolphin force arrest 27 POs, 65 record holders in July

FAISALABAD, Aug 11 (APP):Dolphin force arrested 27 proclaimed offenders during the month of July and recovered narcotics and weapons from their possession.
According to police, the force also arrested 65 record holder accused and 18 court absconders during the same month.
The teams recovered illicit weapons including pistols, rifles, guns, Kalashnikovs, carbines, repeater guns, revolvers and several bullets.
The force also seized hashish, heroin, opium, ice, bhikhi, liquor and Lehan in more than 80 raids conducted on narcotics.
They also held 14 wheelies and 19 swindlers and recovered gold ornaments, cash, cell phones, and 195 vehicles including motorcycles.
During the snap checking, 119,921 people, 100,639 motorcycles and 25,160 vehicles were checked.
The dolphin force also reunited 3 missing children with their families
and helped 247 people under community policing during the same month.

Banks to remain closed on Thursday

KARACHI, Aug 11 (APP): The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), on Monday, announced that the central bank as well as all banking and financial institutions will remain closed on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
“The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed on Thursday, August 14, 2025 being a public holiday on the occasion of ‘Independence Day’ as declared by the Government of Pakistan”, said a statement issued here.
Subsequently, all banks, Micro Finance Banks, Development Finance Institutions and other financial institutions will remain closed on August 14 in observance of Independence day.
